Doing It The Long Way.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

After a good night’s sleep I was wide awake by 7:00 this morning so in order to not wake Kathy I got started doing my morning reading on the computer. Thinking I’d outsmarted her as I sat reading quietly it was only 7:30 when I heard her getting out of bed and heading down the steps into the kitchen. As I greeted her she began by wishing me a Happy Birthday. It was only Friday that Kathy celebrated her Birthday but we normally always celebrate them together the day between. That was why we ate supper at the 19th Hole last evening.
Foggy conditions this afternoon.
Even though it was Sunday we still had some plans. Once the computer reading was over Kathy started getting things chopped in the kitchen for making Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup and Pepper Steak.
Spitfire Memorial Park.
My job was to do the laundry so after I had it all prepped I drove to the park’s laundry room. This is where I found out that all the quarters that were in our laundry money jar wouldn’t help to do the wash because I also needed Loonies ($1.00 Canadian Coins) for the washers and dryers. I drove to the park registration office only to be told that someone else had just gotten the last roll of the coins. The desk even called the pro-shop with no luck. They normally carry more coins during the regular season which would be available the first business day of May (tomorrow).
One of many Murals depicting the history of Essex.
Back Home I explained the problem to Kathy so a quick decision was made to have an early lunch. While I grilled some turkey dogs on the grill Kathy finished making the soup and started making some sides for lunch. Instead of just standing around while lunch was being cooked I cleaned up our site and put the containers that were under the edge of the trailer on the shelf we’d installed inside our new shed.
After lunch was over we went to check out the small town of Essex. With the heavy fog the temperature would not make it above 50 F (10 C) for our daytime high and it made for slower driving. When we arrived in town we found their local laundromat only to be faced with the same problem.
We decided to check out other stores. We stopped at the local Canadian Tire and were surprised how small and crowded this location was. Next we went to the Essex Home Hardware Building Center. This is the largest Home Hardware either of us had ever been into. Kathy managed to find several more of the Rubbermaid Food Storage Containers that we have been hunting for. She also found a better quality broom to be used on our patio.
We then stopped at the Dollar Tree where we purchased a barbecue brush and a spray bottle. Our last stop was at Tim Hortons where we had each a Hot Chocolate and donut for a snack. Each one of the purchases we made this afternoon resulted in getting change in the form of Loonies ($1.00 Canadian Coins). Enough to do our laundry.

This past week we had checked another laundromat in Amherstburg and now the one in Essex. What we were doing was price comparisons compared to that of the park. After dropping Kathy at Home with our purchases I went to the park laundry room to do our washing. I had collected thirteen dollars of Loonies for change today and managed to use twelve of them. We’ll be stopping at a bank this week to stock up.
Spring has finally sprung.
It was nearly 6:30 by the time I returned Home with the folded laundry and it only took moments for Kathy to start serving our supper of Pepper Steak. It always tastes great and left us both very satisfied.

We have no plans for tomorrow but as Fulltimers that doesn’t matter because now we can start enjoying this Lifestyle and doing what we want to do. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. I'd be lost without my stackable washer and dryer in my RV. LOVE IT! It paid for itself in one year, too. I kept track of the loads, and costs and in 11.3 months it was paid for...

  2. We always keep lots of Canadian and USA coins around for the laundry we spend about $90. a year as most campgrounds are only $1.25 wash $1.pp to dry.

  3. Now that's the way to go, no plans just let it happen.
