After laying
in bed for some time I finally got up around 7:00 this morning. Being up that
early gave me the chance to get caught up on my E-mail and morning blogs that I
always read. Strangely Kathy was still in bed and it was nearly 8:30 which was
odd. We did wear ourselves down yesterday with all the running around that we
did. I simply started getting things ready for a light breakfast and as soon as
the kettle popped indicating the water was hot Kathy immediately snapped awake.
She couldn’t believe it was that late and we had the Meet and Greet at the Park Hall this morning.
Just getting started laying patio stones over stone covered mud. |
It was
close to 9:30 when we arrived at the Park Hall
and the place was packed. Other Fulltimers were getting together with
other park residents that they hadn’t seen since heading south last fall. We
got ourselves registered with the Park Residents Committee who send out
notices about upcoming events that will take place for the park residents. We
also purchased our tickets to attend the Happy New Year get-together at
the 19th Hole restaurant at
the end of the month. We enjoyed another coffee and a muffin while more
longtime residents of the park stopped by to say Hello and welcomed us to the
park. We don’t know too many people at this time but we think we’ll meet more
of them with time when we are not so busy and we can actually have more time to
personally socialize. Outside there was a Golf
Cart Dealer there selling private carts. Neither Kathy or I golf and
besides we have our bicycles to ride.
Making progress. |
We had to
go to Amherstburg to our son Kevin and daughter-in-law Melissa’s home so I could
borrow a hand tamper and rake. Kevin had left the tools by the garage and Melissa
had just gotten home. She needed to vent about “Incompetent Bureaucracy”
that she had just dealt with. Both Kathy and I gave her a hug to help her feel
better. When I went to put the tools in the trunk I found a box of food stocks
that we thought we had delivered before our move. Luckily they were in sealed
containers so they can still be made use of them.
Almost finished but tiring out. |
As soon
as were back Home I changed into my
working clothes and started moving things away from the area where I wanted to
lay the patio stones we purchased yesterday. Our site went from a well-organized
area to near chaos quite quickly. Even though yesterday was a warm sunshiny day
when I walked on that area the mud that was under the stone made my feet look
like a couple of clods.
Father Robin watching behind me. |
Kathy
made an early light lunch so that I could work on the patio extension
undisturbed. With everything out of the way it was easy to quickly level the
area with the rake. Since I’ve had a little experience doing this not only for
our daughter but ourselves when we owned our home it started taking shape
fairly quickly. Since I was only taking two stones from the bed of the truck at
a time there was a lot of mud and gravel being tracked on the cement patio.
Mother Robin above the nest also watching me closely. |
By then Kathy
had finished her Bookkeeping and was starting to catch Cabin Fever
so she came outside to relax. As soon as she saw the mess I was making, she
started sweeping the area clean again. After having two light meals in one day,
by 5:00 this afternoon with only six more stones to lay my energy was totally
gone and I had to stop.
Laying the last patio stone. |
Kathy made
the fixings inside while I grilled a couple of Hamburgers on our Weber. While
drinking our tea we watched the 6 o’clock local News which helped me to recover.
Berming the patio stones |
As soon
as the News was over I was back outside to finish laying the last of the stones
and to berm around the back edges. For a while we thought that it was going to
rain because the sky got pretty dark, the wind picked up and there were a few
drops of water that fell from the sky but we stayed dry. We still need to add
Silicone Sand between the stones which will stop weeds from growing between and
lock the stones together. Without completing that last step there was no use
cleaning up the rest of the patio tonight.
What our patio looks like tonight. |
Last week
when we assembled the shed I showed a picture of a Robin’s nest with its eggs
inside. The robin was keeping a very close eye on us today because there is now
a number of hungry mouths to feed in that nest.
This was last weekend. |
Kathy got this shot. you can see a little head in the corner by the branch. |

You have the place looking very nice. Great work on the patio stones.
ReplyDeleteI think it is wonderful when a park has social so that the residents can meet each other. Glad you have an active park.
