Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario,
Canada.
On Monday
a notice was put in everyone’s mailbox that an independent company would be in
to test the new fire alarm system for the sake of the new owner’s insurance
policy. This was supposed to take place between the hours of 1:00 in the
afternoon all the way until 5:00 this evening. Imagine waking from a
sound sleep at 7:30 in the morning to ear piercing alarms suddenly going
off. Looking out into the hallway and not seeing any smoke or hearing any
sirens we took the time to hurriedly get dressed. Now we started hearing
sirens! (Oh-Oh) With a bit more urgency as we were leaving our apartment the Tecumseh Firefighters were entering an apartment
at the far end of our hall. Would you believe it was a faulty sensor in one of
our handicapped senior’s apartment that caused the alarms to go off. Being that
we were up we simply sat down to have an early breakfast and get to the computers
sooner.
Yesterday
the problem that was caused by our insurance company was they didn’t want to
insure any of our belongings because of our intention to become Fulltimers.
As long as we retain a permanent address our belongings are covered but at the
end of the month that would all end. They suggested we get one of our children
to lie and say we were living with them. Not!
Some time
back our friend Gerry had told us about Wayfarer
Insurance that insures RVs in Canada. By 9:00 I was on the phone
with them exchanging information not only for our RV but our truck and car as
well. Their coverage for our trailer is
better than our old insurance company and priced under as well. They also
specialize in coverage for people that take up the Fulltime Lifestyle. The
only thing they wouldn’t cover is the contents of our Climate Controlled
Storage Unit but suggested checking with the storage yard itself.
Just after
10:00 as I was talking to Wendy at Guardian Storage
about insurance for the contents of our Climate Controlled Storage Unit our
building alarms started sounding again. The company that had to replace the
problem sensor simply started testing them earlier than scheduled. The alarms would
go off for a few seconds and then on. A couple minutes would pass and the same
would happen. We had planned to be out of the building in the afternoon but now
we had to leave because we were both getting terrible headaches from the noise.
We had
some errands to run and the first was to mail some letters at the Post Office. Our next stop was at McDonalds where we used a coupon to have an enjoyable
and satisfying lunch at an inexpensive price. Instead of driving around the
block (one mile) to our next location we walked through a gate in the fence and
went to the Service Ontario building
which was right next door. Even with the long line of people both Kathy and I had
the addresses changed on our driver’s licenses, health cards, and the ownerships
for the trailer, truck and car within a half hour.
Back in
the car we went to Guardian Storage
where Wendy was about to sign us up for Content Insurance with the company Guardian uses when their website crashed. We simply
picked up our mail and will just go back tomorrow. We also drove back to our
storage unit where Kathy needed to pick up some supplies that we’d already
stored.
It’s been
some time since we put gas in our car as a fact the last time was when gas was
at a seven-year low. Today the price was up by $0.164 a liter ($0.621
US gallon) even though the cost of oil is still low. That price difference truly
cuts into anyone’s budget.
When we
got back to the apartment Kathy needed to take a Snap because her
headache from getting up so early and from the noise from the alarms had not
gone away. For supper we made a quick meal of pasta. Tomorrow we’ll be making
more progress towards our Fulltiming Adventure. Thanks for following along and feel free
to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

We have been using Wayfarer insurance for over 20 years, they have great rates and are good quick to take care of claims.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness it was a false alarm.
ReplyDeleteInsurance is a must. Glad you found a good one at a lower price.
