I managed to sleep past 8:00 this morning which under the circumstances of being isolated with a lack of activity nor having many outside interests that we can indulge ourselves would be understandable to most. Unfortunately I think the guilt comes from my Father insisting there was work to do outside at early hours of the day even on his day off. Later on that would lead me to a career that involved working long hours, seven days a week for months on end.
Even with her need for more sleep then most it wasn’t long when Kathy sensed my absence that she was joining me for breakfast long before it was ready. With a clear sky and not a single Water Puddle left from yesterday’s storms it looked encouraging as a day to get things done. Putting my hand by the Balcony Door was an easy way to tell just how warm things were getting outside. We had survived the night without the AC but it was starting to warm up a bit so as soon as we’d eaten I restarted the Unit.
After checking out what was happening On-Line and dealing with another Scammer on my Cell Phone we soon started getting things ready for lunch. Wanting something a little different I started making Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sandwiches garnished with Dill Pickles. Kathy made our dessert plate using the last Yogurt Cups, the last of the Grapes and the last of our Oatmeal Cookies besides sharing an Orange. That helped clean out things in the Fridge as well as telling us what we needed to restock.

We let lunch settle as we finished our Tea while making a Grocery List of things we’ll need. Just before 1:00 with our Masks on we were heading for the elevators. The minute we opened the Back Door it felt like we were in front of a Blast Furnace. It wasn’t as Hot as last week but the Southeast Wind was blowing directly in our faces and with the clear sky you felt the intensity of the Sun.

We checked our Mail at Guardian Storage earlier this week and there wasn’t anything there. Today it was packed. Kathy was amazed at the Handful that I returned with.
Heading back on Jefferson Blvd we stopped at Al’s Air Conditioning. I explained what was happening with our Sleeve Type Air Conditioner and he seemed baffled. When I explained how I put a Screen on the outside to stop the Pollen from getting in he said that was part of the problem. The Screen tends to reflect the Heat from the Cooling Coils back into the Air Conditioner. By recirculating the Hot Air makes the AC overwork. He recommended removing the Screen and if there are any more problems to give him a call.
Next we went to Dollarama to pick up a few items from our List at cheaper prices then those at the grocery store as well as getting some walking in. We were surprised that there was no Line of people Social Distancing outside and everyone inside were wearing their Masks. With this being only the middle of July we were a little surprise to see most of the Gardening Aisle cleared out and decorations for Thanksgiving already being displayed.
Our next stop was the Bulk Barn where we found more items from our List at cheaper prices then those at the grocery store.
When we walked out from there Kathy walked into the Zehr’s grocery store while I put those purchases in the Car. Those stores are neighbours. Again everyone was wearing Masks inside and it took Thirty Minutes to get everything else on our List. We would then spend Twenty Minutes in line to get to the Cashiers and Ten Minutes for the new Cashier to look up all the Codes for the Vegetables we bought.
We managed to get back to the Apartment by 4:30. We filled one of the larger Shopping Carts downstairs to bring everything up. It was past 5:00 by the time most of the groceries were put away. While in the grocery store Kathy spotted the Frozen Chinese Food we tried before and really enjoyed it so she thought that would be perfect for tonight’s supper and she was right. It didn’t take long at all and we were enjoying our meal along with a glass of Carbonated Juice (Fake Wine) and a piece of Pumpkin Pie for dessert. The best part is there is enough for another meal like that.

On the 6 o’clock Local News they talked about the High Temperatures through the weekend as well as the Coronavirus. It seems there are a number of Labs around the world that are already starting to test Vaccines even in Canada. There is however reports that many of those Labs are facing attempts by Russian Hackers to steal that information. Another Lab has developed a Mask that has a coating which actually kills the Virus. They will become available to Front-line Responders first. The positive news was that Canadian Cases are going down even as we slowly start to reopen because of people wearing Masks and Social Distancing. The also mentioned the numbers are again Skyrocketing in the US.

We turned to a US News Station that showed people being attacked for wearing Masks by others that thought they were infringing on their rights by doing so. There have been more reports of Covid Parties going on where everyone pays an Entry Fee and the first to come down with the Virus wins the prize. Most of those parties have resulted in everyone getting sick along with a few deaths. There were a number of Doctors who pleaded to anyone watching that the Coronavirus is real, has no political alliances and if it does not kill you will leave lasting Health Issues. There is also a high number of First Responders that are coming down with PTS while seeing the high Fatality Rate of people with the Virus.

This is definitely something most of us never thought we would ever see in our lifetimes and it is making people do things that are unimaginable. If you choose not to protect yourselves it will be only your fault if you contract it but please don’t stop someone for being cautious. Many experts have said in the past that Masks will only stop you from spreading any germs you may have and not protect you from catching it. I Disagree! Having had to wear Dust Masks and Respirators throughout my career I can say that many times a simple Dust Mask kept me from being sick.

Not sure what we’ll be doing tomorrow but it will be something. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. Hi Rick, good info on masks from your life experience. I agree 100%. Thanks.

  2. I agree with you on the masks. I wear a mask that is washable, so there are two masks in my life. One for today and a freshly washed one for tomorrow. I disagree with the social distancing at 6 feet. From testing reports on the Internet and my personal experience I feel that something like 10-12 feet is more correct. That is what I follow.

  3. You have to wonder why the russians would bother hacking when any solution to the problem would be shared globally anyway... just the usual bogeyman hype, there has to be a bad guy. Cases are going up in BC, tons of Americans enroute to 'Alaska'... seriously, make them fly! Boats are docking and the ferries are allowing American plates going to small island which are clearly not enroute to Alaska... If we don't keep them out, they will be the death of us. Masks are essential.
