Going Down the Highway.

Our Location today is Niagara Falls, Ontario.

As expected whenever we know that the next day is a travel day we manage to toss and turn for the better part of the night and when we do wake up it is later than we’d like it to be. We barely woke up before 8:00 this morning so by the time we had breakfast and finished packing the last bit of food that we were bringing from the apartment it was past 9:00 before we headed to the Guardian Storage Yard and the trailer.

Having done this routine before it didn’t take long for us to have everything stored and ready to roll in less than twenty minutes but as soon as we turned off the service road onto Jefferson Avenue the flashers started and the safety gates came down at the railway crossing. For the next fifteen minutes the train shuttled back and forth across the road and all we could do was wait it out before moving on.

Once we were moving again it seemed all the traffic lights were trying to help us make up for lost time by giving us the go ahead and only having to slow down for the purpose of safely making our turns. Once on highway 401 I was surprised that we were able to maintain our speed with everyone just slowly passing us by. It was not a day to be in a rush though because the O.P.P. (Ontario Provincial Police) were out in force and by the time we stopped for lunch I had counted in excess of twenty vehicles pulled over with the flashing red and blue lights parked behind them.

Stopping at the Flying J outside of London helped to put nutrition in our stomachs without overdoing it and circulation back in our legs while walking around their store looking at the gizmos and gadgets that we didn’t need.

Back on the 401 it didn’t take long and we were changing our direction from east to south down the 403. We were still amazed that we were making steady progress and it looked like we were going to arrive right at our scheduled time of arrival. Arriving at Hamilton we took the Bypass which would save us miles and having to go down the mountain side with Weekend Warriors that give RVers no consideration all around us.

Just as we took the ramp onto the Q.E.W. southbound towards Niagara Falls I knew our arrival time was out the window as I looked ahead at a five lane parking lot. After coming to numerous stops we slowly started moving ahead as the five lanes of traffic slowly crammed itself into three lanes. As the traffic would start to slowly move ahead it would again slow as more traffic entered into the mix from on ramps from other communities along the route.

We arrived about fifteen minutes later than we had Guestimated! By the time we had the trailer set up and were organizing the inside we needed to turn on the A.C. because there was no breeze and the humidity was high. When I set up the Turbo Hub I tested the phone system by calling our daughter-in-law Melissa back in Amherstburg. She had just received a call moments before from Kevin and Matthew saying they had arrived at Beausolei Island but had also had trouble with the traffic on the Q.E.W. northbound to Perry Sound. Go Figure!
After grilling Johnsonville Brats on the grill for supper it was time to just mellow for the night. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  3. Being an Rv'er we try not to travel with the weekend warriors and stay away from the cities when they are all on the move.
So much touristy stuff to see and do at the falls, have fun.
