Toronto Area Traffic.

Our Location today is Huntsville, Ontario, Canada.

Both Kathy and I slept soundly last night again going to bed with the attitude that we’d get on the road when we got on the road and we weren’t going to rush. We both seemed to wake at the same moment as well at 8:00 sharp. By the time we had breakfast and secured everything inside to travel it was already past 10:00. That’s when our new neighbor Walter who pulled in while we were out yesterday afternoon came over to visit. He and his wife are from Virginia and are visiting friends similar to what we did with my relatives this past week. It was nearly forty-five minutes later by the time we were rolling out of the campground heading for Huntsville. On the road again!!!

We seemed to be making good time heading down the 401 towards Toronto but we were starting to feel like we needed a stretch and lunch since it was nearly 12:30 at that point. We pulled in to the On route service center. After attaining personal relief we used a coupon we had from back home to buy our lunch at A&W which meant we saved nearly seven dollars for our meals.

Once we were back on the road it didn’t take long to get caught up in the stop and go traffic that is a fact of life around Toronto. The fact that this is a Friday and it is summer time or better known as construction season only added to the slowdown even in the Express Lanes. It was well past 2:00 by the time we were taking the ramp North on highway 400 but the traffic conditions didn’t improve there either.

It was past 4:00 when we finally pulled in to the On route service center at Barrie. Even though the speed limit was for 100 Kilometers an hour (62 mph) the fastest we ever got to was 80 kmh. (50 mph) It had been a chore to avoiding the stop and go of the traffic because if you left yourself any space for safety someone driving a compact would cut in and slam on their brakes. We needed to walk a bit and ended up buying a slice of Hawaiian pizza to tide us over because we didn’t know how long it would take to arrive at the campground or when we’d eat supper.

Back into the parking lot on highway 400 we edged our way along until we were finally past the Orillia cutoff. We finally started climbing our way closer to driving at speed limit. We pulled in to the Lagoon Tent and RV Park on the northern edge of the town of Huntsville just before 6:00. Since there is the Great White North Festival that will be taking place all week in Huntsville everything is filled up. Our four hour trip had only taken six hours drive time.

This park has just been purchased by new owners and they are working their tails off to clean up the overgrowth so that the larger trailers will fit much easier. We have full hook up but hopefully it doesn’t get too hot because we only have a 20 amp service. That’s another thing the new owners plan on working on during this coming winter when the campground is closed for the season. It was nearly 7:00 by the time we were backed into our site.

Finally arriving.
We’re going to be busy again starting tomorrow but tonight we are both looking forward to a warm shower and our comfortable bed. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
