Long Drive, Short Miles, Learning A Lesson and Finishing The Day With Laundry.

Our Location today is at Shawnee, Oklahoma, U.S.A.

Even though we have been parked very close to Highways their Sounds have never bothered our sleep. Last night it seemed that we both had a restless night’s sleep. We had our Alarm set so that we could get an early breakfast. What happens when we normally set it we are awake before it goes off but not this morning. Before going inside the Cracker Barrel to have breakfast we packed everything away and closed up the Trailer before going inside. We didn’t eat that heavy in an effort to avoid the discomfort that comes from large meals when you are driving down the road.
Small Town USA.
While I did my final circle check Kathy set up the GPS and we were under way by 9:00. We were finally back on I-40 eastbound until the GPS had us exit. Our goal was to connect with I-44 since we missed it yesterday which would help us get closer to Home at a much faster rate because it travels on a diagonal across the Central States. We hadn’t traveled far when we reached the ramp but turned into a parking lot and headed away. We have this thing about avoiding Toll Roads and that is what this section of I-44 is.
This something we haven't seen lately.
All we could do was to continue following this Secondary Highway that had gotten us to this point. Since Kathy was tired from not having slept too well and it was quite a distance to our next turn, I suggested she take a Snap. Each time as she was just about to drift off the GPS would repeatedly shout “Speed Reduction Ahead”. We traveled through a few small towns that still have Angle Parking on their Main Streets and others that we simply an Intersection that had been the center of the community at one time.
Downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The GPS stopped guiding us so we stopped and tried to make it work but it wouldn’t recognize actual cities we were entering. The only thing we could do was pick an existing address in Tulsa in hopes of getting where we needed to be. Tulsa was over an hour away but we soon arrived. Wanting to get on the highway the GPS kept taking us Downtown. It took us a few minutes to remember it was taking us to where we had programed it. Image the looks we were getting driving down City Streets with our Trailer.
Spring Blossoms on the trees.
Lucky for us there was available Street Parking that we used while reprograming the GPS for another city further down the line. I also explained to Kathy that the Cost of the Extra Fuel and Time was not worth our avoiding this Toll Road. We traveled on I-44 from Tulsa Oklahoma until the Toll Road ended and it only cost $12.00. We stopped at 2:30 at a restaurant called The Wood Shed for very late lunch. The food helped to re-energize us. We were both tired but wanted to continue.
Toll Booths on I-44.
We both wanted a shower so at 4:30 we pulled in to the K.O.A. in Joplin Missouri for the night. We were just glad to get off the road. With all the Secondary Highways we traveled we only drove 230.5 Miles today. Once the Trailer was all leveled and hooked up we realized we had another growing problem. Our Laundry Hamper was full.
Restaurant built over the Highway.
After getting the Clothing washed and put in the Dryers by 6:00 I headed back to the Trailer where we had Toast and Apple Sauce for supper. It would be nearly 8:00 by the time I got back with all the folded clothes.

Our truck never missed a beat today but we'll still ask our Mechanic about the K&N Air Filter when we get Home. We’ll be back on the road tomorrow even though there’s a lot of Rain in the forecast for the direction that we are heading. If we had Time we would stay a while but since we can’t we just hope we don’t get too much of it. Thanks for following along, feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. Hope you don't get much rain tomorrow on the road. And get a good nights rest tonight

  2. Take care sounded very stressful. More so with a bad night's sleep. Travel safe you two!

  3. Don't feel bad. The dog leg I-40 and I-49 is 200 km more than the toll road Oklahoma - Joplin. The extra fuel on the dog leg costs more than the toll fee and adds to the travel time. Good thing that your truck runs trouble free.

  4. I think you need a new GPS unit. I liked the toll roads because there was less traffic, but hated trying to drive through those tiny booths and deposit money in the slot.
