Our Location today is at El Rancho RV
Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A.

Even though we are in a Park type setting we are also within
the city-limits of Albuquerque, New Mexico which still has sections of the old Route 66 running through it. Think back when anybody who
was somebody traveled that road in their Muscle
Cars and what they sounded like. That was the sound we listened to through
most of the night. To say our sleep was broken many times more then when we
were in Kingman,
Arizona
would be an understatement.
We know of lots of our Friends traveling in those areas in
their RVs and can only pray that
they are not affected by these Storms.
We’ve already read a few of their Blogs
where they said that the Parks they
are in have given them Warnings of what to do in case of an Emergency
and where the Storm
Shelters are located.
The Office here at this Park is
closed on the Weekends so I went
over to the Managers Private Quarters
and told them we’ll have to extend our stay. I was told to meet them at the Office
in a while. I went there over a Dozen Times
with no luck. Guess I’ll try again tomorrow.
Kathy and I walked down to Central Avenue to get a sense of direction as well as some Exercise. The area is very run down and
everywhere we went there were Bars
on the Windows and Razor-Wire on all the Fences. Walking along the outside of
the Park
we saw the same Razor-Wire as other
businesses. We walked both the loops noting there were very few sites that
could handle our sized RV and many
of the Park Models were probably
there when the Park
first opened.
Kathy needed a Snap to catch up on some of the sleep
she didn’t get last night. I made another attempt to extend our stay with no
luck. I spent some time using my new Dumbbells
in order to strengthen my weakened Neck
Muscles. Not wanting to Overdo
it and not having a Bench to use Twenty-Minutes was enough.
Going inside I turned on my
Computer but woke up Kathy and she was
coming downstairs. Guess I needed a Snap
as well. We re-examined the Forecast
and it seemed to include more of our present location.
We decided to walk down to
the Pizza
Hut for supper but stopped at Family Dollar for another walk. Leaving empty-handed we found
out that Pizza
Hut was only a pickup place so we
walked down to Griff’s.
It seemed to be a popular Burger Outlet
but we ordered Chicken Sandwiches
with Onion Rings instead of Fries. I finally had to ask where our
food was after others that came in after were leaving and we still didn’t have
our order.

so far so good.
Rick, I read your blog all the time, but have never left a comment. My husband & I just started full time in 11/2017, we are currently in Florida. We will be spending this next winter in Az. We are from the East Mountains area outside of Albuquerque. We had lived there for 18 years. Be very careful while "visiting" Albuquerque, it is the number one city in America for auto theft & the auto they steal the most is the Ford Truck. I know, ours was stolen twice in the space of 3 years. The area you are near is pretty bad, but there are nice areas of town for shopping & eating out. We hope to meet both of you next year in Az.

I read but never comment - I lived in Albuquerque for 3 years and was horrified to see where you are and that you walked in that area !!! YOU ARE IN EXTREME DANGER !!! Get out of there immediately. Please !! Go up to Rio Rancho or up Juan Tabo to Sandia Casino (I think you can stay there for free) . You are in the barrio and no one goes there. Ever . Albuquerque is so beautiful and I love it but go North - way North.
ReplyDeleteWow Rick I read the comments above and hope you are both safe. We stayed at the Sandia Casino on the way down and felt very safe there, but they do charge $28.00 a night for parking lot camping! We also spent the night before the balloon festival in a Walmart near the festival grounds and felt safe there as well. White House Downs was a great movie :-)
ReplyDeleteThinking you need to heed the advice of the people who know.
ReplyDeleteHope the winds aren't too bad. I'm surprised that Albuquerque has a rough section. I've only driven through so don't know much about it. Always have wanted to go go for the balloon festival. Hope you're on your way Monday.
ReplyDeleteWe thank you for your concern. We got off the road because of the high winds that we found were to start today and found this park on the internet as an Escapees park. It is surrounded by a large fence and the people that run it are very nice. We have not felt nervous or in danger but have only left once yesterday and went to a restaurant. There was no problem there as well. We are leaving in the morning when the winds have died down. Thank you for your advice and if we are this way again will take it and go elsewhere. Rick & Kathy Rousseau It's about time.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for letting us know you are safe. I love Albuquerque so much and the NE and NW are safe. Unfortunately, all of Central (old Rt 66) along with SE and SW are very dangerous. I know you got off the road due to the extreme high winds. Hopefully, they will ease up tomorrow and you will continue Homeward bound. I enjoy your blog and wish you well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Moonfly13 I hope we make it home without any problems too. We also hope the weather is good. Rick & Kathy Rousseau It's about time.
ReplyDeleteHope you guys get on the road and down the road safely. Watch the weather, which I guess goes without saying.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the drive!
Sometime we just have to take our chances and get off the road. You didn't seem to have any problems but the bad service at the dinner. Hope the winds die down now and you can be on your way again.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you guys are safe! By now, you've probably moved on . . . we stayed in Tijeras, right off 40, I think, when we visited Albaquerque several years ago, right at the beginning of the Turquoise Trail. It was a passport park, not big sites, but safe. Hope the winds calm down!
