Truck In For Service, More Pieces to the Puzzle and Making Our Site Home.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Kathy managed to only lose two hours of sleep last night but with all the fresh air that was coming through the open windows she managed to wake up by 8:30 this morning feeling better rested. We have two different types of windows in our RV as in most. Fortunately for us that we always make certain the Sliders are closed before going to bed in case it rains while we are sleeping. That was especially wise last night because around 5:00 this morning we were getting hit by a severe Thunderstorm

We completed our morning chores and were headed out the door by 9:30 with a short list of errands we needed to accomplish today. Our first stop was Windsor Gas and Diesel where we dropped the truck off for an Oil Change and to have a few other things checked at the same time. We trust Jim totally with our vehicles and know that he will never try to gouge us.

Not knowing if we would be delayed by any construction we headed over to the Motor City Credit Union where Kathy had an 11:00 appointment with Ashley. Because of her busy schedule even though we were early we had to wait until the appointed time to see her. Kathy’s business was finished within minutes but then Ashley started asking about our trip to the Southwest. We had seen her just before we left last fall and she remembered what we had told her then. After asking many more questions by the time we left she just kept saying “I hope to do that some day”.

It was nearly noon so we walked over to Taco Bell where we enjoyed a lite but satisfying lunch. We then drove over to Princess Auto to check if they had something we needed.

We then drove down the South Service Drive over to get our mail at Guardian Storage and had a big surprise. They had closed the Jefferson Avenue train crossing and had the road blocked off. We then had to take the North Service Drive all the way to Central Avenue before getting on Rhodes Drive and driving almost back to the train crossing construction site. I was again surprised to see Wendy there as she was moved to Guardian Storage’s second location but was here to give Carol a couple of days off.

We then drove back to Home Depot where we returned the Above Ground Firepit because it was just too big and bulky. We also picked up additional Potting Soil and Peat Moss for the trees we have to plant. Kathy verified there were no smaller Firepits available before we left.
Busy tucking in the Weed Free Black Cloth before adding decorative stone.
A pile of stone is on the patio next to the tree.
Driving across the road to Canadian Tire we went to their outdoor Garden Center and managed to find the Pea Gravel we wanted for between the existing Flagstone Patio Stones on our site and a nice Perennial Grass to replace the one that died in our Fairy Garden. Going inside we managed to find a number of Firepits that better fit our requirements.

We were Home by 2:00 and even though the Humidex was feeling like 97 F (36 C) there was a steady breeze that made it tolerable. Both Kathy and I worked on different areas of our site to get things accomplished. Even though we had removed the old Fire-Ring at the rear of our site last night I continued digging out lots and lots of stone that had been packed around the Ring. After digging the hole deep enough we then worked together to add Peat Moss before planting the five-foot Golden Cedar Tree we purchased at Walmart last night. Since the ground is mostly Clay a bag of Potting Soil was also added before we put the Weed Free Black Cloth down and covering it with White Stone for effect.
Acorn Squash, Steak and Peas

It was past 5:00 by the time we finished that so while Kathy was nuking an Acorn Squash and some Peas I was outside grilling a couple of Steaks for our supper. We were listening to the 6 o’clock News while we ate. The food was delicious, satisfying but not overly filling. We barely got the dishes washed when the wind really started picking up and a minute later the rain started pelting the trailer. The news just ended when the Thunder started and that last for close to an hour.

With more Hot, Humid, Wet Weather forecasted overnight and all day tomorrow we’re not sure what we’ll be doing at this point. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  2. I never realized you had such varied weather in Canada. Looks like you're making your new site all your own.

  3. Congratulation on your new site. You do lovely improvements to the park with the shrubs and flowers you purchased. People will stop by and say what a lovely setup you have. I have to catch up and read several weeks of your blog to find out what has been happening with you guys and if your RV issues have been taken care of. Hope to see you sometime this summer.

  4. I like the jalousie windows that were in the Jayco trailer. I could have all the windows open when it rained. The Forest River only had an escape window that opened out and I used to leave that open just a little all the time. Your site is going to be lovely. I parked in a site next to a permanent resident once, and he had the prettiest garden--flowers of every shape and color. He liked Jack and used to leave bouquets on the steps of my trailer. I often think what a kind man he was.

  5. The weather this whole past year has been "interesting" looking ahead, as of right now, we will not be seeing any really hot weather. Maybe high 70's low 80's which will make for a pleasant summer. Again, looking forward to more pictures of your site.
