Good Bye Amarillo, Hello Oklahoma City.

Our Location today is Edmond, Oklahoma, U.S.A. 

Kathy was having trouble with allergies before going to bed last night. For many that is not that big a problem but for someone that uses a CPAP Machine to keep breathing through the night it is a very big deal. While I managed to finally have a very restful night it took Kathy a lot longer before falling asleep.

With milder overnight temperatures we had, it actually felt comfortable when we got up at 7:30 CST. Once breakfast and our inside chores were finished, my attention turned to doing what was needed outside. That was when I found out that even with the milder temperature the wind was even colder then what it had been when we visited the Cadillac Ranch yesterday morning. I was still in the process of dumping our tanks when Kathy reported everything was secured inside and ready for travel.

As we were starting to pull out of our site we noticed some of the local trees filling with colour as their buds are starting to come out. We also noticed how the park had installed small sidewalks along all their interior roads. Another thing that was being erected across the street looks like a couple of towers that might be used for Zip-Lining which will give another form of entertainment for traveling families to stay at the park.

Kathy was planning on setting up the GPS to take us towards Oklahoma City but I told her to wait until later this afternoon. We were on the I-40 west bound Frontage Road and after taking the turn-around loop we would be right on I-40 eastbound all the way to Oklahoma City. 

After nearly an hour heading east with the Sun shining in our eyes for the most part Kathy had to recover some of her lost sleep. I continued driving until Kathy woke and suggested stopping for a stretch. I suggesting that instead we stop for Fuel and Lunch since our light breakfast was long digested. 

We found a Flying J which fit the bill perfectly. Since the RV Fueling Islands were full we simply parked and went into Denny’s for Lunch. We took our time after eating we always look around the store at some of the interesting things they stock. By the time that we got back to the truck we were able to drive right up to the RV Fuel Islands with nobody ahead of us. Using our Good Sam’s Members Card, we saved Eight cents per gallon of Diesel.

The time we spent off the road had been quite refreshing. While I had been busy fueling the truck and getting rid of our second bug collection for the day Kathy had set up the GPS. We knew the minute we were in Oklahoma because we had a thirty mile stretch of Construction that had traffic down to one lane and lower speed limits. Kathy managed another Snap but managed to wake just as we reached the Chaos of downtown Oklahoma City.  

She had researched the location of Camping World but when the got to the location there was only a Gas Station there. The two young ladies inside did call the local Camping World and got a new address for us. They also wished us safe travels. 

Getting back on I-44 the Chaos was now amplified because we were now into Rush Hour Traffic and few people on their way home after working all day are courteous to anyone driving an RV trying to change lanes. What I found difficult was some of our turns were to the right and some to the left from the Interstate. 

We finally made it to Camping World and it seemed Rush Hour had taken its toll not just on us but other RV Drivers. I had just pulled into the lot and someone was shaking his fist at me. Then finding a spot to park was another challenge. We found the few things we had come for and more but they will help make things easier for us. We wanted to go eat supper and Kathy asked the cashier where there was a Cracker Barrel. They looked it up Online and gave Kathy the address. 

Luckily the traffic seemed to be improving because the GPS basically brought us almost back to where we had stopped at the Gas Station the first time without any slowdowns.

As typical the RV Parking Spots at Cracker Barrel are too short for our trailer so we used more then one. With it being Friday night a lot of people go out for supper and that included a couple of Busloads of people on tours as well. It would be after 7:00 by the time we were ready to leave.

Looking across the street we could see a Flying J which was our spot for the night. Since the RV Fuel Islands were empty we stopped to top off our Diesel. Using our Good Sam’s Members Card, we saved another Eight cents per gallon of Diesel. With the RV Parking full we circled around back to park with the Semis. We were nicely tucked in for the night when we got a new neighbour who is pulling a Reefer and is running his truck for the Air Conditioning. Looks like we will be using Earplugs tonight.

We covered exactly 300.6 miles today. Hopefully with less city driving tomorrow we’ll have a more relaxing day on the road. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
