Damaged Skylight, Lots Of Mail, Problem Solved and Seeing Our Daughter.

Our Location today is Lakeshore, Ontario, Canada.

Last night I had no problem sleeping but Kathy had what we refer to as a Pretravel Night’s Sleep. She couldn’t stop thinking of things that could not be done until we were ready to pull out and she didn’t fall asleep until after 3:00 this morning. With feeling so well rested I was awake before 7:00 and was raring to go so I got dressed and got things ready for breakfast before returning to the bedroom to start putting my CPAP Machine away. It was around 7:30 when Kathy sensed my movement to start her day.

We had breakfast then went through our normal routines making certain that everything would be secure for travel. Kathy was not only dragging from her lack of sleep but a Bug that she had been fighting all day yesterday. While she finished getting herself ready I brought things out to the truck then started shutting down our utilities.

Doing a final Circle Check I noticed something strange looking on top of the trailer. Standing on the Picnic Table on the empty site next to ours proved that I wasn’t seeing things. Our Sunlight over our shower was badly damaged. Going inside the trailer I opened the Sliding Skylight Cover that I had made to see the inside lens was still intact but the outside one was shattered.

It was 8:50 when we pulled off our site at Wapakoneta K.O.A. and started the last leg of our trip. Having fueled the truck yesterday in less then five minutes after leaving the park we were cruising along on I-75 headed in the direction of Detroit. There were a few minor construction slow downs before Toledo but not too bad. After a brief stop at the rest stop we were ready to drive through Toledo and their Never-Ending Construction Highways.

It was just past noon when we pulled off on Eureka Road in Michigan to have lunch. The first place we spotted was an old time favourite the Big Boy Restaurant. The service was great and the food was delicious. With the cold weather that we were having today I had ordered a coffee for my beverage. That cup never made it below half when it was refilled.

Back on the road we were shocked when we saw a long section of Southbound I-75 that was completely closed and being torn up by Construction Equipment. We would later learn that it was closed back in February and will not reopen for two years. We know the last time we had driven that section of highway it was pretty bad and that was two years ago.

After topping our Diesel at the Duty-Free before crossing the Ambassador Bridge we spent nearly twenty minutes in line before we cleared Canadian Immigrations after only a few questions and a “Welcome Back”. It felt good to be Home but in the same instance sad because this adventure had just ended.

Our first stop was at Guardian Storage where we have our mail delivered to. We used our old remote to enter the storage yard and parked by the rows of RVs that were being stored. While Kathy checked that everything was still secure inside the trailer I went to the office to get our mail. Wendy was happy to see we were back and had about four times the mail collected for us then our mailbox was capable of holding.

Not wasting too much time we were soon headed for Lakeshore where we had an appointment at Leisure Trailer for between 2:00 and 3:00 this afternoon. When we handed Stephanie the printed list of issues she immediately came outside to review them with us. She also brought out Ron who is their Specialist on Slides. When he heard that Indiana RV had simply replaced the Control Module for the Slide and it was still making all this grinding noise he said that wasn’t the problem. He was checking everything with Kathy pushing the Slide in and out until he found the problem. Apparently a piece of metal from our Slide Topper bracket had broken off, fell into the upper Drive Motor Mechanism and it broke its mount causing it not to be moving the slide the way it should.

The parts were ordered this afternoon but since this is Easter Weekend there are lots of businesses closed tomorrow and they are one of them. Ron advised us not to use the slide, so while he and Kathy worked together to close the slide I went on the roof and wrapped the Shattered Skylight with a plastic bag and Duct Tape in case it rained. Since our park is not open until April 15th we had planned on Wally Docking for a few days but with the bad slide Stephanie arranged that we could stay on site for the next couple of days. She also found a new Skylight Lens for us. By the way it’s damaged we probably hit a low flying bird while traveling down the road and it destroyed the Lens.

For supper we drove down to Wendy’s where we both enjoyed a different Salad for supper along with another Hot Cup of Coffee. From there we headed over to our daughter Karen’s Home who we hadn’t seen since last October. She and Sanford were the only ones home everyone else was at work or out visiting. We had a pleasant visit before heading Home for the night.

Back at the trailer we immediately turned on the Electric Fireplace to take the chill out of the trailer. With electric and water for the next two nights what more could we ask for.

We towed the trailer 173.5 miles today bringing us nearly back to where we started our winter adventure. Kathy is already in bed and I feel like I’m coming down with the Bug Kathy had. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  4. Glad to read you are almost back at your home base after a safe travel day. Also, glad to read they are working on any part of I-75 between Detroit and Toledo we took that route in January, just in the Jeep, and it is bad.
