They Got It Right.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Last night the weather guessers at the local station apologized for a storm that missed our area then they went on to tell us about a day that we’d rather not have to deal with. The gentle pitter patter of rain on our roof has helped us to sleep through many restless nights but the sound of rain falling with the intensity of someone losing control on a drum set had exactly the opposite effect around 5:00 this morning. A half hour later things quieted down enough for us to fall back to sleep.
Chicken/Fruit Salad
Having breakfast shortly after 8:00 everything outside looked so wet and dull due in part to the heavy clouds, we knew this would be an indoor day. We had barely finished our morning reading on the computers when the rain started coming down as a light mist. With weather like that I chose to fill up our pill doucettes so I wouldn’t be stuck doing them on Saturday night. I also attempted to do more than one week at a time so this only becomes a once a month ordeal. The only bad thing was that we had to sit in our recliners to enjoy the Chicken//Fruit Salad that Kathy made for our lunch because I’d taken over our dining table.

After enjoying our meal, I went back to my chore while Kathy wrote out a list of errands we planned on running this afternoon. The first were things we’d forgotten because we didn’t use a list the other day. One of the comments that day mentioned an App on smart phones that would save us from writing lists but neither Kathy or I are tech savvy enough to use one. With our new lifestyle it will probably be a wise thing to learn about, increasing our ability to keep in touch with family and friends.
The sky had been getting darker throughout the morning and early afternoon but by the time I finished doing our meds the rain started coming down so hard we could barely see our neighbour’s trailer that is only fifteen feet away. I know I’d complained about how dry it’s been around here lately but this was more than making up for it. The rain would barely stop for a couple of minutes before starting again through the rest of the afternoon.

Wearing our raincoats to stay somewhat dry it was past 2:00 by the time we finally headed out. Our first stop was Sun Parlour Trailer just outside the town of Amherstburg where we picked up a couple tubes of Dicor Lap Sealant. We also had a chance to get some advice from Bill on a couple of technical issues that have me stumped. He suggested a couple of things to look for and if that doesn’t work to give him a call.
Our next stop was Guardian Storage in Windsor where after finding no mail we drove back to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit. Today I got more than we bargained for when I lifted the padlock from the door lock and accidentally dropped it on my sandal clad toes. Kathy couldn’t understand why I was speaking in a language she couldn’t understand. Not a pretty picture! Armed with our list we managed to leave with every item written.

Next we stopped at Walmart where we are fairly certain we might have completed our Christmas Shopping for this year. It is early to be doing that but we’ll be celebrating it with our families at the same time we celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving in early October.
It was now past 5:00 so we headed to Swiss Chalet on Manning Road for supper. We always tell our children to give us Gift Cards for special occasions rather than something we might not keep or have no room for. Today’s meal was complements of a few of those Gift Cards and we only had to cover the tip.

Wearing our raincoats again we simply walked across the parking lot over to Shoppers Drug Mart. When we travel south we always bring our medications and vitamins from home. This allows us to buy them when they are on sale plus we had another Gift Card we could use to keep our costs down. Then just as we were approaching the checkout the store announced that “Thursdays are Senior Days” which added to our savings but then we also used our Optimum Cards which saved us even more. We probably saved fifty percent on that purchase.
That was all we saw of the sun today.
It was nearly 7:00 when we stopped at the Zehrs grocery store to pick up a few more groceries before heading towards Home but we still had another stop. We needed to stop at the Pioneer gas station to top the truck off with fuel. While I was inside settling the bill one of our former neighbours Gary from the apartment stopped to talk for a few minutes. After I told him how we are doing he was jealous.

Our rain gauge showed we had five eights of an inch of rain today so the weather guessers got it right. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Witty Words of Wisdom

Going into court, means you are putting yourself in the hands of 12 people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.

  1. Could you please explain what are "pill doucettes". I remember a basketball announcer years ago in Milwaukee named Eddie Doucette, but otherwise I've not met up with this word. We are coming into Canada tomorrow, and I suppose if we stayed a long time I would learn this word. But we'll only be in Canada for about a week. Do you think the word is related to the English word "dose"?
