Hot Jello Day.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Shortly after posting last night’s blog the later weather report started to issue a heat warning for our area for today. Even with all the windows open at that late of an hour the heat was actually getting quite unbearable in the trailer. Against what we wanted to do we had to turn on the AC in the trailer. I’d set the thermostat for 77 F (25 C) but that didn’t stop the AC from firing right up. Waking at different times through the night it was not uncommon to hear the cooling system kicking in only after a moment of silence.
When we got up at 7:30 this morning the outside gauge was already indicating 81 F (27 C) which The Weather Network on the computer would back up. The computer also showed what the gauge didn’t was the Humidex that was already feeling like 91 F (33 C) at 7:30 in the morning. Even though we had things that needed to be done outside they didn’t seem that worthwhile because of the heat.
Heat affecting our plants.
We headed for Windsor before 10:00 where our first stop was supposed to be Guardian Storage however as we approached there were cars parked on both sides of Rhodes Drive for nearly a half mile away. That’s when Kathy remembered it was the day for the Annual Guardian Storage Yard Sale. People that put things in storage sometimes realize there are things they should have never kept so one day of the year the storage yard is opened to the public from 9:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon to walk around to see what people are selling. The old saying one person’s trash is another’s treasure still holds true today. We might even downsize some of our own possessions at a later date but not now.
We chose to drive past that mayhem and to come back later in the day. Since we planned to spend most of the day in town and it was now past 11:00 we chose to stop at Taco Bell for an early lite lunch.

We also planned to do some visiting but we don’t show up at meal time when someone is going to eat. Instead we walked around the Walmart store getting ideas for somethings but also making purchases of gifts towards our early Christmas Celebration. I see more wrapping in Kathy’s future.

Around 12:30 we arrived at our friend Kathie’s apartment to see how she is doing. She has been busy cleaning up and donating lots of Ross’s clothing and other things. She is having a hard time with the loneliness and dealing with the insurance companies. She needed to talk to someone that has been through this and can understand the pain that she is feeling. Both Kathy and I were there nineteen years ago and know the emotional rollercoaster ride that Kathie is now going through. We could only advise her and give her some ideas of what to do but she’ll have to do it on her own. We hugged her a lot today and it was nearly 3:30 when we said our goodbyes but we’ll be back to help her along.

We stopped at our daughter Karen’s home with the intention of a very short visit but the only one there was Sanford who was more than happy to see us. Both the car and truck were there but not the motorcycle so we left leaving a disappointed puppy behind looking out the window.

We returned to Guardian Storage and had no problem getting our mail or getting the supplies we wanted from our Climate Controlled Storage Unit. Wendy the manager said that this was the largest Yard Sale they have ever had. There were over seven hundred people that went through the gate and all the people that had things to sell sold everything they put out. Lots of treasures were found today.

For supper we finally enjoyed the Homemade Pepper Steak that Kathy made yesterday and there is enough for another meal. On the 6 o’clock News the weather forecast showed how a forecasted storm totally skirted our area giving us a rain free day. They also showed how we set a new record high temperature for Windsor at 93 F (34 C) with a humidex that made it feel like 108 F (42 C). Even after the sun set it was still more than warm outside while I watered the new grass seed that I spread yesterday. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  2. What a neat idea...... sale at storage compartments. But wondering would people buy stuff when they already had so much they needed a unit. Bet they would!

  4. Well, I don't like it to be too hot and I don't like it to be too cold. That thermostat reaching 91F is too hot for me. Aren't we thankful the air conditioner was invented?
