Changes and Exploring.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Last night neither of us had any problems sleeping and if it wouldn’t have been for the sun seeping past the edges of the curtains we probably would have slept in later. We were enjoying breakfast and watching the Weather Channel before 8:30 this morning. The forecast that we were seeing is for much cooler temperatures than what we have become accustomed to over the years for this region.

Before 9:00 Kathy was at her computer while I applied what I was hoping would be the final coating of stain on the pieces for the cart we made for the trailer. By the time I got to my computer Kathy was already making plans for what we’d be having for lunch.

When I started hearing bowls rattling on the kitchen counter and Kathy chopping something that was my cue to go help. My career had nothing to do with food and I did cook many meals as my children were growing up but never to the quality of meals that Kathy makes. I try to help her in an effort to better my cooking skills and to learn so she doesn’t get stuck doing everything even though she admits that she loves to cook.

By 12:00 we had just finished putting a Turkey Casserole into the oven. (Again making use of last Sunday’s Early Family Thanksgiving Dinner leftovers.) This gave us plenty of time to clean the kitchen and wash the dishes used to make our lunch. At 12:30 the timer went off telling us it was time to eat. It was delicious and if it hadn’t been so hot from just coming out of the oven it would have melted in your mouth because it was that good. Yes we do have enough leftovers for a few more meals that we’ll be looking forward to.

After eating we still had time to finish the lunch dishes and put away any leftovers before heading out the door. We were on our way to the new Belle River Arena to watch our grandson Tyler’s team play hockey. When we arrived there was a fundraiser outside that was just finishing up to help support future seasons of minor hockey. Inside there was a junior team practice that was just finishing off on the rink that we were about to have the Bantam teams play on. As soon as the ice was cleaned the teams came out but not for a game but for a practice session. We didn’t know that today was supposed to be a practice day so since the action wasn’t going to be serious and we couldn’t cheer on our team we left.

Instead of heading in the direction of home we headed into the Town of Belle River. It has been a number of years since we were there and we just wanted to kill a bit of time. Since we have been staying home getting things ready for our trip south we were beginning to feel like prisoners to our chores. This drive through Belle River felt like we were out exploring an unknown area that we are unfamiliar with. We got to see changes to the canal where in my early years I would put my own boat in to go fishing on the lake. We even took the time to explore their local hardware store. In small towns we always check the hardware stores and always find unique things that you can’t find anywhere else.
Finally heading towards home we deliberately drove right by our exit so we could go to the trailer. Yesterday when I did the laundry there was lots of things that belong in the trailer there. Since I’m using the living room as a workshop any space we can clear is a benefit to us so we dropped those articles at the trailer this afternoon.

We were both in the mood for a snack so we stopped at McDonald’s for an ice cream cone and to people watch. Trying to eat an ice cream cone is not an easy task while driving so it was also safer to enjoy it inside. It is also fun watching families interacting on the weekends unlike anything during the week.

Back at the apartment we read on the computers for a short while before I fired up the Weber to grill a couple of Johnsonville Brats for supper. After the news we watched a program we haven’t seen in a while before I buckled down to write this post.

Tomorrow we have a real hockey game to attend to and other plans for our weekend. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.
