Gasping For Air, Tire Rotation and Going Off The Grid.

I’ve often mentioned that Kathy and I both have Sleep Apnea and use CPAP Machines to keep us breathing at night. When you have Sleep Apnea you actually stop breathing at a time that your body is normally rebuilding the Oxygen Levels in your Blood. When Apneas happen, and go untreated they can lead to Heart Attacks, Strokes or Death.

The person that has the condition will not be the first one to notice it. Most times it is your spouse that hears you snoring loudly. The experts say it is an Inherited Problem and I can remember my Father snoring so loudly that if any of my cousins came to sleep over, they spent the night awake. They didn’t come over too often. With time you will wake up feeling more tired then when you went to sleep.

Before you go telling your partner they have Sleep Apnea, not all people who snore have it. Some snore due to a congestion problem but Apneas occur when a Flap in your throat fails to control the air you breathe. It is not uncommon for a person with Sleep Apnea to be sitting quietly while awake or talking and begin to choke on their own Saliva. Very embarrassing if you are in public.

After being awaken in the middle of the night a few times due to the Parks we were staying in having lost their Power we made the investment into a Pure Sine Wave Inverter which is necessary for Medical Equipment. Having installed a Designated Line for our CPAP Machines on both sides of the bed in our last Three Trailers, we have never worried about losing Power overnight again.

Over the last week I have been waking Gasping for Air to find my CPAP lit (which indicates it is on) but not giving me Air. Then after a few seconds it immediately starts doing what it’s supposed to. Last night I was using a New Mask, New Hose and New Filters in hopes of the problem going away, instead I woke Gasping Four Times.
This morning's Sunrise.

When Kathy came down to Breakfast I explained the problem and said I needed to call VitalAire. I had to leave a message but before long they called back. They had a cancellation just open up for this afternoon so I took it.

We had some Yard Waste from yesterday’s clean up to drop off at the Compost Bin, so we took the Truck.

We were soon headed for Windsor but we were a bit early so we stopped at Wendy’s for our lunch. Eating from the Value Menu we each had a Chicken Wrap, a Small Chocolate Frosty and a Senior’s Soft Drink for a total of $9.32, we were satisfied without being stuffed and we weren’t broke.

We checked our Mail at Guardian Storage before going back to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit. If you recall we were going to sell a CPAP and give the money to our friend even though she didn’t expect anything for it. Kijiji’s policy of calling it Drug Paraphernalia stopped that from happening. We might be bringing it with us to the Southwest this winter in case one of our Machines go down and if that happens we’ll pay our friend for it.

Still on the early side we drove needed to get our Tires rotated on the Truck. Our mechanic Jim had suggested Tim White’s Total Tire Care so that’s where we went. They take care of all sizes of Vehicles but especially Semis. We had to sit in the office but were only there about a Half Hour for the job to be done which is good since they have to take the Tires off the Rims to rotate them on our Dually.

We made a quick stop just to say “Hello” to Jim at Windsor Gas and Diesel and get more information on our Regeneration System.

Even though the Humidex was 95 F (35 C) and with more then an hour before our appointment, we headed over to McDonalds for a Coffee. We like their Coffee better then Tim Horton’s plus you can earn a Free Coffee and everyone likes things that are Free.

We arrived at VitalAire a bit ahead of schedule but were soon having my Machine checked over. We explained about our friend’s Machine being a Just-In-Case Machine for this winter and she checked it out and set it up. When I explained our CPAP Machines ran off the Inverter she questioned “In your house?” That’s where we explained that we lived in our RV and that we go “Off the Grid” in the desert by using Solar. She couldn’t believe it and had lots of questions. Knowing she had other appointments we gave her one of our Business Cards with our phone numbers. When we were leaving she was excitedly telling Tiara (who already knew) how we lived. I think we might have planted the seeds to another Future Fulltime RVer.
Large Garden Salad, Grilled Salmon and Half a Nuked Potato.
We headed back to Wildwood to find a lot of our Seasonal Neighbours starting the process of closing up their Trailers. They said that the 30 something low nights was too cold for them. Did I mention that we are expecting a change to our weather soon? Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. What a horrible feeling that must be waking up gasping for air! Hope it all got fixed! Another busy day, but you're getting things taken care of for your trip south! What day do you leave? Your timer isn't working for me..

  2. I hope you get the machine fixed. I have the same problem, but the doctors said it's not bad enough to have a machine. Still, I wake up gasping several times a night. Not a good feeling at all.
