Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.
It’s strange that in
the back of your mind when you know something is slated to happen in the near
future that your mind tries to get ahead of it. That’s what happened causing us
to both be out of bed and having breakfast before 8:00 this morning. We finished
breakfast early and then had our coffees at the computers. When 9:00 came and
went in quiet we thought that the notice we’d received yesterday was a false
alarm. However when the clock hit 9:09 and the repetitive sound of the
jackhammer started echoing through our apartment we knew it was time to leave.
As I’ve said recently the new building owners are making lots of changes to the
building and one was converting a former storage room directly below our
apartment into a Bachelor Apartment. To do that they needed to break through
the concrete floor to run the utilities to the new apartment. Our taking an
early leave was not really an inconvenience this morning but a little push to
get on our way to running errands that had to be done.
Our first stop was
to SX Video in Essex to retrieve Kathy’s now dead laptop. Unfortunately
we arrived before their 10:00 opening time so we had a slight wait. In that
short time I met Jim another former coworker who also used to live near
my old home some twenty years ago. When I told him and his wife what Kathy and I
were doing the first things out of their mouths was “We want to do that”. After
they left I spoke with Dillon who explained everything he did to try and
revive Kathy’s laptop. He was also surprise since that brand is noted to be the
best in the industry. For it to last just over two years then fry the
Motherboard was a shock to him.
Now we had another
drive to Staples where we dropped off
the old laptop so that Kathy’s files can be transferred over to the new laptop
she purchased last night. They said if everything went smoothly they be calling
us later this afternoon. We are still waiting for that phone call.
Not wanting to
return to a noisy apartment we stopped at Home
Sense where Kathy found new silicon cooking tongs but when she saw
the long line to the checkouts thought she’d just pass on them. Since it was past
11:00 we went to Burger King and had
two chicken sandwiches for five dollars. Feeling recharged we drove over to Pier 1 Imports just to look around. Next we
drove to Home Outfitters where the
simple cooking aids that Kathy was looking for were priced as if they were
gold. I suggested going to the Zehr’s Supper
Store which is a grocery store with some basic household items
people can use. Would you believe they had everything Kathy had been looking
for at a fraction of the cost the other stores wanted to charge. Heck we even
got some groceries while we were there.
We finally headed
back to the apartment at 2:30 and it was nice and quiet so we started getting
caught up on our online reading. At 3:30 the jackhammer started again. We stuck
it out until nearly 4:00 before going over to the Michigan
Diner on Manning Road. They have the best fish and chips in the
area. We stayed away until after 5:00 which was the time the noise was supposed
to end.
Today the
temperature broke the 50 F (10 C) mark when only last weekend we were closer to
the 0 F (-18 C) mark. The wind however has been ridiculous whistling through
the poor seals in the windows. This evening listening to the News we had to
raise the volume on the television because the 40 + mph winds were rattling the
winds so badly. We hope to hear that Kathy’s new laptop is ready tomorrow plus
we hope to do some more hauling. Thanks for following along
and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.

Computers are awesome when they work correctly. Glad they were able to save her files.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, the file transfers will go well.
