Sleeplessness, Hockey, Lunch And An Explanation.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Without any discussion having taken place until at the breakfast table this morning Kathy and I shared our sleeplessness last night. Normally one of us sleeps well while the other doesn’t and then the following night the opposite happens but not last night. After having been asleep for just over an hour Kathy spent the next two hours wide awake reading in the living room before going back to sleep. I woke around 4:00 tossed for an hour before going to the computer until 6:30. We both managed to wake close to 8:30 only slightly tired for wear.
Tyler (Black #97) on face-off.
By 10:00 we were on our way to watch our grandson Tyler play hockey at the New Belle River Arena. Once the game got started today the action only stopped when the referees blew their whistles. Again this week Tyler demonstrated that he was not going to be bullied by senior players from the opposing team and found himself in the penalty box twice within the same period. The score ended as a tie 5 all with Tyler scoring three times and assisting on the other two goals for his team.

We decided before heading home that we’d just look around the small town of Belle River because there used to be another RV campground in the area. Well with the passing of time the campground was sold off and developed as a lakefront community with high-end homes in the district. With other plans that would delay our arrival home for lunch we chose to stop at a small restaurant that I used to frequent nearly forty years ago called Edna’s. Since we didn’t want to overeat we each ordered a simple Corned Beef sandwich. What we got was a Corned Beef/Turkey/Ham sandwich that we both struggled to eat. It’s a good thing that’s all we ordered! The price for the sandwich was the same as a combo at fast food place but it filled us up. For supper tonight all we could eat was a salad.

Kathy and I appreciate the words of encouragement that we received from yesterday’s post. It will not only help us to save money but also be a better way to enjoy our travels. Stephanie brought up the issue of work-camping down in the southern states when we travel in the US. As Canadian citizens we would be required to have a work permit (Green Card) and then we would have to file Income Tax Returns not only with the Canadian government but with the IRS as well. After 36 years with my former employer we receive a monthly pension cheque that helps support our travels. If we worked in the US we’d have to declare that pension with the IRS and the work-camping monies with Revenue Canada putting us in a deeper hole than we presently are. By my working my trade strictly while in Canada we better support our lifestyle without having to pay income tax on both sides of the International Border.

Tomorrow we have lots of things to accomplish so that we can start getting ready for this change to our lifestyle. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. In my opinion a small local restaurant sure beats a fast food place any day. Good choice.

  2. The only fast food we do is Subway. I find it you order water, which is better for you, at a meal you can save a lot.

  3. Those tax laws (and medical insurance) are such a complication for Canadian RVers.
