Hot Landscaping.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Just that little bit of w@#k I did last evening made me sleep so soundly I never woke up until I heard the alarm going off this morning. Yes I had to use the alarm because I needed to meet our daughter-in-law Melissa at her place of employment to retrieve a tamper tool that I had to use today. Our son Kevin had put it in the rear of the van last night and I met her before her shift.
Barbecue on the ground Time to rework the old patio stones. .
As soon as I walked back in the apartment Kathy was there having gotten things ready for breakfast. She said she sensed my absence the moment I walked out of the apartment. Once breakfast was over Kathy went to the computer after I kissed her and headed out the door. The weather forecast was calling for Humidex values today exceeding the century mark and the job that I had to do was outside in the direct sunlight.
After arriving at our daughter Karen’s house I didn’t go inside but immediately set to the task of lifting the original patio stones that led into the back yard. It wasn’t long that Tyler realized I was there and came out to help. Since he hadn’t eaten breakfast yet I sent him back inside not wanting him to pass out because he was starving. Once he joined me we worked well together as I explained what we were doing. We had the weed cloth down and the bags of screening leveled before I noticed it was past 12:30.
Smelling lunch.
I’m the opposite of a Diabetic being Hypoglycemic I needed something to eat so I took Tyler to A&W for lunch. We had a chance to visit as the Air Conditioned dining room and cold Root Beers helped us cool down before going back to work.
We managed to get all eighteen of the new patio stones laid and leveled by 2:30 but the heat was starting to get the best of us even though we were keeping ourselves hydrated. We conferred that we’d wait until after supper to finish the job and hoping the temp would cool down a bit.
Laying the second last stone.
Kathy was surprised that I was home and hadn’t bulled through to finish the job even though it was so hot. I had to change my clothes just to cool down even though the AC was on. I managed to read a few morning blogs and scan the Weather Network before supper. The Humidex had climbed above the century mark early this morning and was still holding through the afternoon.
It's hot but can we play
Kathy had marinated a nice side of spare ribs and wrapped them in foil for me to grill on our Weber. She also made a couple of delicious sides to go with them. Needless to say I didn’t stay outside while the ribs were on the grill cooking on low for about forty minutes. When we opened the foil the ribs were actually falling off the bone tender.
It was just past 5:30 when Kathy and I arrived back at Karen’s. Thinking that we’d need more bags of screening I asked Karen to pick up a couple more while Tyler and I continued relaying the old patio stones. After she had left we realized the old stones were not only a quarter inch larger in dimension but they were also thicker which meant scraping screening out rather than adding. We finished laying all the stones without using any more screening so she’ll just return them. It took another hour to add the sealing sand which stops weeds or grass from growing between all the stones and tamping them.
At $35.00 a bag you save the extra sealer sand.
Karen helping Tyler on the final cleaning.
I was hardly in our apartment when I headed for the shower. After taking an extra-strength Tylenol I sat at the computer where it said the Humidex was still 97 F (36 C) at 9:00. Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter yet and our building is supposed to be shutting the power off so they can replace the breaker that’s always causing problems. Not good timing! Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  2. I was Hypoglycemic for many years when I was younger. The strange thing is when I became pregnant the first time, it disappeared. The doctor thought that was very strange, but I was thrilled.
The patio looks lovely. I love the color.
