Power Struggle.

Our Location today is Sugar Loaf Key, Florida, USA.

After having a wonderful evening out with our friends Karen and Al we were so worn out that we both slept a little later than normal this morning. I had read nearly three quarters of the morning blogs we follow before Kathy got up. At breakfast she explained to me that she’d awaken around 4:00 and didn’t fall back to sleep for quite some time after so she was still feeling tired.
Karen and Al.
Whenever I donate blood I avoid exercising for two days so that the arm can totally heal to avoid any rebleeding. So when I asked Kathy if she was ready for a bike ride she was suddenly filled with renewed energy. It didn’t take us long to be out the park gate going up the bike path crossing the channel to Cudjoe Key. By the time we pedaled to the crosswalk there was no traffic coming so we just kept on riding right across the road. Kathy noted that we seemed to be going faster than normal and it was true because we were pedaling in a higher gear and the electronic odometer said we were going 14.5 mph. Without any wind to pedal against was also to our benefit.

After a brief stop for a drink of water we continued until we had to walk across the highway to continue on the bike path towards Kemp Channel. This is where we normally turn around but lately I’ve been hinting that we should cycle right over to the other side. When I said we were doing that today all Kathy said was that she would watch the boats on the water. The reason she did that was because we were riding on the six foot shoulder of the bridge where the traffic was driving right next to us.

When we got back on the bike path Kathy suggested that we were eating lunch out today because we’d already worn off breakfast. We rode all the way to the other end of Summerland Key next to the highway until we reached a bridge that has a fifty foot rise in altitude that’s when Kathy said it was time to turn around.

The first place we looked at had a couple sitting outside on an outside patio and didn’t appear to have any inside dining. The second place the Galley Grill Restaurant the parking lot was full and when we walked in a couple was just leaving so we had a table in an Air Conditioned room to help us cool down. We chose to have their Cheese Steak Sandwich for lunch. This turned out to be the Best one we have ever eaten. Kathy loved her Cole Slaw and I love the taste of my Baked French Fries. Kathy said we’ll be eating at more of these Mom and Pop places in the future rather than the big name places.

When we left we weren’t stuffed but well satisfied. We had worn off breakfast so now we were going to wear down our lunch. Kathy watched the boats on the water as we again rode the six foot shoulder of the bridge to cross over Kemp Channel back to Cudjoe Key. Once we were again on the flat paved bike trail Kathy thought we were going fast so when I told her we’d hit 15 mph and I started pedaling harder so did she. We were actually feeling a cool breeze when we hit 16.8 mph on that flat path. By the time we got back to the trailer we’d covered 12 miles on our round trip in the heat of the day.

Once we’d cooled down a bit I decided to install the two LED lamp fixtures that I’d bought at the Flea Market yesterday. It was quite strange that I had just completed installing the first light when our AC went off. As I began working on the second we realized that our power was off and there was a clicking sound coming from our EMS. The code it was showing was low voltage on the second line. Kathy at first thought that I’d wire the light incorrectly because she didn’t understand that the lights were 12 Volt while our power coming from the pedestal is 120 volts.

Strangely the power came back on for a few minutes than went out again. None of our other neighbors were having electrical problems we knew it was ours alone. Since our neighbors on our door side had left yesterday and the site was still empty Kathy suggested I try that plug. Luckily the sites are tight here and our power cord reached. As soon as I turned the power on our EMS showed no faults and everything in our trailer is working fine.

We notified the office of the problem and they’ll work on it in the morning. They’ll also not be putting anyone next to us until the problem is resolved. I also mentioned that it’s the same plug they replaced our second day here. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Krackers

My mother-in-law applied a mudpack and looked great for two days.

Then the mud fell off.

  1. Now the Mom and Pop places are the ones we much prefer if and when we go out. Usually much better food and service.
Having run my own restaurant for 10 years I can vouch for that.

  2. Oh fooling around with electric is not a good thing. Glad they understand and will get it fixed immediately.

  3. I hope the electric issue get resolved quickly. It's a good thing it didn't happen a week or so when the park was so full.

We passed right under that bridge yesterday heading right out Kemp Channell.

  4. Yup... mom and pops over chain restaurants is the way to go. Employees are in direct contact with the owners daily, so they HAVE to serve you well or cook well... no sluffing off when the boss is around who has to account for every action and cost. Glad you checked out the power post in the next site.. sure helped in troubleshooting where the problem was. Then you didn't take an unnecessary trip to the RV dealer for a problem that doesn't exist!

  5. Sounds like you had a great bike ride!

The Mom and Pop places are way better than any of those chain restaurants, plus you are giving money to local businesses rather than huge companies/corporations.
