Our Location today is at McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

We both managed to sleep like a couple of rocks last night waking to the Sun peaking around our Window Shades was a nice way to start the morning. I managed to get everything ready for a lite breakfast and started checking things on the Computer before Kathy made it downstairs. By the time we’d eaten and had our Coffees at the Computers the Sun hid behind a bunch of Clouds.
Celery Root as sold at the Grocery Store.
With the Humidex climbing to 95 F (35 C) this afternoon I started my chore of the day doing the Laundry by 10:00. Today also included doing the Bedsheets so that meant stripping the bed. Kathy loves the feel of our Bamboo Bedsheets so much that she wanted them washed and put back on. When they come on Sale again we’ll buy another set.
Celery Root peeled.

I was ready to go by 11:00 but Kathy thought since we’d eaten a Lite Breakfast it would be better to have an early lunch. She heated some Broasted Potatoes and Chicken for a quick meal. Kathy had pans to catch up on her Bookkeeping during the afternoon.

Celery Root cut in half and sliced.

It was close to 3:00 by the time I got Home with everything washed, dried and folded.  The first thing I did was to make the bed up with the freshly cleaned Bamboo Sheets.
Boiling the Celery Root to soften it.
Years ago when we were still living in our House our daughter stopped in for a visit after work. When she saw the Celery Root that we were about to cook for supper she called it “Gross.” After I cleaned and sliced it Kathy started cooking it and told our daughter “Don’t knock it until you try it.” Once she had a few cooked she offered a slice to our daughter who couldn’t believe how delicious it was. Kathy continued cooking the entire thing until she turned to see the empty plate. All our daughter could say was “It was so good, I couldn’t stop eating it.” She had eaten our entire supper so we had Fast-Food.

Last night when we were at Zehrs grocery store they had a counter full of them. These are seasonal and a lot of times the farmers simply plow them under so when we see them, we get what we can. After I made the bed this afternoon Kathy had me clean one up.
Celery Root being Sauteed.
For those of you considering trying this Delicacy this is how it is done.
  • You Scrub it with a Brush with water in the sink because these are Roots.
  • You then peel it cutting off some of the smaller roots as you only want the base before rinsing under water again.
  • Depending on the diameter (Size across) of the Celery Root you might have to cut it in half before slicing it about 3/8”-1/2” thick.
  • It is then necessary to boil until it is soft enough to pierce with a fork but not mushy.
  • Remove from the water to let cool.
  • Use an Egg, milk and lightly pepper wash before coating them with breading.
  • Then sautee them in Olive Oil.
  • Once the breading is nicely cooked place on paper towels to soak up the excess oil and very lightly salt.

It can be served as a side, the main course or as a snack, warm or cold and it is delicious. Just ask our daughter.

  3. Now that's something I never would have tried. I'll keep an eye out at the grocery store.

  5. I love bamboo sheets, too. I got two sets at Amazon when they were on sale, and they have been great. I have to wash them every other day because Bogey shares my bed with me and if I let it get past two days, it's like sleeping in a kennel or sand pit.

Kathy amazes me with her cooking skills. I'd never think of cooking celery root--never even heard of it before. LOL
