Got Another Truck and A Long Day.

Everyone that has been reading our Blog knows that we dislike having to wake up to an Alarm Clock. Being that we wanted to be at Vision Ford in Alamogordo when the Service Department opened we had no choice but to set the alarm before going to bed last night. When we do that no matter how hard I try to not think about it, it just seemed that every couple of hours I found myself awake and looking at the Clock. Finally I saw there was only Three Minutes before the Alarm would go off so I got up to shut it. Fortunately Kathy was too tired last night to think of getting up early so she slept soundly until I woke her at the appropriate time which meant she wasn’t scared into wakefulness.

We didn’t bother eating breakfast but took the time to have our Morning Medication/Vitamins before heading out the door. It almost felt eerie to only see a single vehicle off in the distance of this busy little town. We were soon at Vision Ford with still Twenty Minutes before they opened.

When we talked to the Service Manager about the Truck she said the best they could do was tomorrow and with the Holiday this week that didn’t help but they are only closed on Thursday. We were told where we could rent a Vehicle so we’d have something to get around in rather then being stuck in the Trailer until we got the Truck back.
Since the Rental Company wouldn’t be open for another hour and we hadn’t eaten yet we went to I-Hop to have breakfast. Sara made certain we were well taken care of. We both had a variation of their 2+2+2 Breakfast which left us satisfied but not stuffed and it was reasonably priced.
2 Eggs over easy 2 Bacon and 2 Pancakes.
Back at Enterprise Car Rental we spoke with Eric the new District Manager about needing a vehicle. Most of their Cars had already been reserved but he could have a cancellation. He took our contact information and said he’d call by 11:00.
2 Eggs scrambled 2 Sausage and 2 Pancakes.
With nothing else that we could do we went Home. Kathy had a Snap to make up for her lost sleep. I busied myself reading on the Computer. At 10:00 the Phone rang and it was Eric saying he had a Cancellation so we’d have a vehicle around 11:30.

We were at Enterprise within minutes setting up the paperwork and getting to know some of the people that worked in the office. Most of them had just recently transferred there from other areas. One gave us ideas of things to see and we gave him ideas of things to see with his family. We also found out that Eric is living in his 27 Foot Nissan C-class during the week and heads back to his family on the weekends. It seemed more like a social gathering rather then a business meeting. After checking the F-150 over we were soon on our way to drop our Truck off at the dealership.

We had our Truck there by 12:30 and discussed what the issues were so if they could start it before the end of the day they would. There is also a slim chance that some of this might be covered under a Warranty.

On our way to drop the Truck at the Ford Dealership we discovered that Alamogordo has a Super Walmart as well as the Neighborhood Walmart Market so we had to check it out. When we parked the Rental Truck we saw a gentleman spraying the tires on his car. Jessie explained that the Sun dries out the tires on vehicles in New Mexico and that the spray helps to stop the process thus making his tires last longer. He was raised in Alamogordo worked his career in Oregon and now that he is retired has moved back home. He has also traveled through British Columbia and Ontario.
Pigeons warming themselves on the asphalt.
After walking around for a while we were starting to get hungry since it was nearly 6 Hours since we’d had breakfast. We went to the in-house McDonald’s and each had a Quarter Pounder and a Small Soft Drink. We felt so re-energized we spent the next Hour doing Christmas Shopping for 2019. Since some of that needs special packing we walked across the parking lot to the Dollar Tree. It took some brainstorming but we can now safely wrap those Special Gifts.
Our Rental.
It feels strange driving this smaller truck and its gas powered engine instantly reacts to the slightest touch of the Accelerator. Another strange thing that we were not told about at the Rental Outlet is that it is a Hybrid. I thought this Truck had stalled but the moment I took my foot off of the Brake Pedal the engine sprang back to life. Kathy insisted the engine was still running but when the Tachometer shows Zero RPM that means it is not running.
Back Home Kathy has already started wrapping some of the Gifts. For supper we had a Chicken Caesar Salad. Since we are renting this truck by the day and not the mileage we’ll be doing some exploring. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.

  3. Seems you've had quite a bit of trouble with your truck. I hope they get it fixed for good this time!!!! A hybrid truck? At least it will keep you from being locked in your trailer. Have fun with it!!

  6. Probably not a hybrid, the new ones shut the engine down everytime you stop at a light. My son has one and it takes some getting used to. Kind of like an overgrown golf cart.

  7. Hope the truck fix is quick and cheap.
Our daughter-in-laws Jeep shuts off like that at stop lights, etc. It's quite unnerving until you get used to it. Supposed to save gas.
By the looks of your breakfast I need an IHOP fix!

  8. JB is right - it's a new feature called Start-Stop. Shuts the engine down while idling to improve fuel mileage. We're putting it on a lot of our vehicles, but it takes some getting used to. Hope everything works out OK on your truck!
