Last Minute Medical Appointments, Frustrations and Some Surprises

By the time I posted our Blog last night I ended up taking a very early morning shower before going to bed. That meant I would sleep like a rock. It didn’t happen, instead every hour I was rolling over and praying to fall back to sleep ASAP. Finally at 6:45 I just got up and started my Computer Reading. When the Sun finally made an appearance it was noticeable that this would be second morning this week there was a lite layer of Frost on the Greens.

After finishing our breakfast because Kathy’s hand was still Painfully Swollen she settled in to do some reading on her Computer while I made the bed and set out the case we keep our Medications and Vitamins stored in. When Kathy went to change I did the Dishes and then quickly straightened up our Living Area for our first appointment of the day.

We had discussed things that we had forgotten to tell Mike yesterday when we helped him move their Mobile Suite Fifth Wheel over to their new site. When we heard noise next door Kathy suggested I go pass that information along. He was busy cleaning out all his remaining Food Stocks so there would be no Dinner Bell calling any unwanted guests. I also mentioned propping the Fridge/Freezer Doors open to avoid any Mold/Mildew build up during the winter. He also had questions about whether he should leave his Utilities connected though the winter. Not a good way to keep those unwanted guests out.

Mike then did something that we didn’t expect, a Thank You Card with a token for helping to relocate their trailer and for the Crash Course of Information Overload that we tried to share with him. It wasn’t necessary but we will appreciate it.

Just then Mary from Healthy Heals arrived to take care of Kathy’s Feet. Due to Kathy having Diabetes this home service is covered under our Health Care Provider. We’ve gotten to know her well over the years and she has tutored me how to take her place when we travel south. She has also gotten comfortable enough to ask Kathy about more Life Like Issues. (Dear Ann Landers). She wished us Safe Travels and is looking forward to seeing us in the spring.

It was only a matter of minutes before we were heading out the door headed for Windsor. I had a 1:15 appointment but we needed to eat first. We stopped at Wendy’s where we ate from their Value Menu.

Kathy went shopping at the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart while I went to my appointment. After checking the results of recent Blood Tests my Specialists was happy with the very low numbers and I’m good for another year. Kathy had picked up additional Systane Eyedrops for both of us to use while we are away.

There was still an Hour until my next appointment so we just took our time getting there. Kathy wanted to have her hand checked by my Doctor because lately her’s seems to be focused on things other then her patient’s health. George was very concerned about what he referred was Acute Rheumatoid Arthritis. (Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a long-term autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints. It typically results in warm, swollen, and painful joints. Pain and stiffness often worsen following rest. Most commonly, the wrist and hands are involved, with the same joints typically involved on both sides of the body. It sometimes starts on only one side.)

Kathy described how it just flared up which made him order some Blood Tests to find out the cause. He could easily just treat the symptom but the problem would keep recurring. Kathy’s Doctor just told her to take a Tylenol. George had suggested we go to the new Dyna-Care Blood Lab on Dougall Avenue because we would have the results back in Two Days as well as prescribing some Medication. Since we will still be in the area he wants to see Kathy back on Thursday to check the results of the Tests and Medication. After checking my Vitals and filling in my form for the MOT we were soon on our way.

We were very surprised how Clean and Organized Dyna-Care was. In less then Ten Minutes we were on our way out.

I had planned on taking the Expressway to save Time but it was blocked off by the Police. Thinking I could still make Time by taking Dougall we got blocked in and had to wait for Two Freight Trains to pass. Getting on Tecumseh Road West construction had us at a crawl.

We finally made it to the Windsor Rehabilitation Center to visit with our friend Vera. Kathy went ahead while I called our Pharmacy to say “We’ll be cutting it close but we need these pills tonight.” Vera was all smiles when I got there. She couldn’t believe how busy we were. Knowing that we only had a Half Hour to visit she had a Surprise for us. Another friend had visited the day after her Birthday and brought another Cake so she saved us each a piece. With hugs we were soon on our way to Amherstburg.

We arrived at Pharma Choice drug store with only Ten Minutes before they closed. Because I had called ahead and explained what the Medication was for Steve didn’t close until we had our Medications at 6:20.

That piece of Cake helped tide us over but we needed more food so Kathy could take those Medications. We went to Soup and Salad for supper. They are gaining in popularity and by the time we got there they had sold the last of their Homemade Soups so we settled for a Greek Chicken Wrap with the Oil Based Salad Dressing. We have learned to share one because they are that filling.

It was dark by the time we got Home. We have lots to do tomorrow getting ready to leave the next day. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
