Frustrating Document, Eating Out, Good Deals and Special Advice.

After posting our Blog just before midnight last night I continued to WORK on a special project. (Darn four letter Words.) Before my Computer went down a couple of weeks ago it was using the Microsoft Office program which allowed me to create many different Documents to be proud of. With the loss of the Hard-Drive also went the loss of Microsoft Office ($150.00) and all its creative abilities. Trying to do the same type of Document last night only managed to make me stay up until nearly 1:00 and only added to my frustration.

When that sort of thing happens, my mind doesn’t let me rest too well so I waited until 7:30 before getting up to start my day. The outside temperature had risen to a balmy 28 F (-2 C) by then I was feeling slightly rested so I again tried to accomplish what used to take mere minutes. Frustrated I even tried to print the Document in it’s unfinished state but the Printer wouldn’t even work.
When Kathy got up shortly after 8:00 my focus changed to making breakfast and enjoying our morning conversation. When I told her of the problem I suggested that using a Memory Stick I could bring the Document to her Computer for printing. That went smoothly but even though it had been saved as a Microsoft Document Kathy’s Computer had a hard time telling our Printer what to print. Because Libre Office Writer is supposed to be the same as Windows Word it was disappointing that it fell short on many things. It took nearly an Hour for the Printer to accept the Document and produce it, as well as more time for me to finally mount it.
We were out the door shortly after 10:15 headed for Windsor. Even though we used to have no problems with this kind of weather, today we were feeling the cold.

We arrived at our friend Kathie’s apartment minutes after 11:00. We haven’t seen her since I installed the Metal Gates that I modified to keep her granddaughter Kingsley safely on the patio in August. We try to share our good fortune by taking Kathie out to lunch which gives us time to talk about things.

We drove to the Michigan Diner on Tecumseh Road and were seated by 11:30. We each chose something different and had plenty to talk about. Even though I’ve known Kathie for over 42 Years it’s Kathy’s experiences that gives her the ability to better advise Kathie. Our meals all tasted great but since Kathie now eats very lightly she will get another meal from her lunch.

Kathy had forgotten her Eye-Drops at Home so we stopped at Shoppers Drug Mart at the Tecumseh Mall and picked some up. That only took a couple of minutes and since Kathie was in no hurry to go back to her apartment we headed to the new Giant Tiger store to walk around.
They carry lots of interesting things including clothing. Kathie found some Clothes that she needed at reasonable prices along with some food stocks to bring home. With my Raynaud’s Disease on the cooler nights we are now getting my feet feel like blocks of ice. They had Thermo-Insulated Socks that I got to try. Even Kathy found some nice cozy Winter Slippers made by the same company with the no-slip grips. She also found some Fruitcake that we both grew up eating as children. It is a seasonal Delicacy and very difficult to find in the US.

After going back to Kathie’s apartment and carrying her purchases in we surprised her with one of the Documents we created this morning. It is something that will help guide her through difficult times and help to instill her confidence. (Can’t tell you what it is just yet.) She was nearly in tears when we said our Good-Byes at 2:30 knowing we won’t be around until next spring but she has E-mail and a Phone that we can call.
We had to go the long way around to go for our Mail at Guardian Storage because of a long Freight Train that decided to park across the road. Knowing our departure is getting close Wendy, who follows our Blog was getting as excited as we are about it.
Spinach and Mandarin Chicken Salad.
We were looking for some Exterior Wood Paint to cover some rough wood so we stopped at Home Depot, Canadian Tire and Lowe’s looking for some. The cheapest Paint they had was a Base Paint for $22.00 a Quart and for what we need it for Kathy said “Forget it”.
Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry.
We have mentioned that we encourage our children to give us Gift Cards rather then Stuff for our Trailer. Since it was nearly 5:00 Kathy suggested we use one of those for our supper. It had been some time since we went to Swiss Chalet which is famous for its Rotisserie Chicken and Spare Ribs here in Canada but we both had something different. Kathy had the Spinach and Mandarin Chicken Salad while I had the Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry. They tasted wonderful without leaving us stuffed so we splurge and each had slice of their Lemon Meringue Pie.
Heading Home.
We finally got Home just before 6:00 where we both had chores to do that were left behind this morning. With nothing planned for tomorrow we’ll catch up on some of our Inside Chores. Those Thermo-Insulated Socks I got today are helping to keep my feet comfortable at this moment. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

  2. Computer issues are enough to drive you to drink excessively. I hate when things don't work. Glad you were able to help your friend. And finding those socks is really a good thing.

  6. Home depot sells little "sample" jars of paint, they do mix any color too, and those jars are on the counter in a rotating case. About $5.00 or less USA cost.
