Swap Shop.

Our Location today is Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.

As mentioned in yesterday’s blog post we spotted something that looked like it might prove to be of interest to us. When we came home Kathy immediately Googled to get more information about it. When we woke from a very restful night’s sleep (Wonder if all that walking we did yesterday had anything to do with it?) we hurriedly had our breakfast and headed out the door. The idea behind this early start was to avoid the day’s warmer temperatures.

Today’s destination was the Swap Shop in Lauderhill part of the Fort Lauderdale metropolis. This is advertised as a seven day a week Flea Market, Restaurants, Amusement Park, Car Museum, Swap Meet and Drive-in Theater all combined. We arrived in less than ten minutes after leaving the park and quickly learned more about this place. It is built on the site of a former multiscreen Drive-in Theater so when you park, depending where you park you either park on a hill or in a valley or nose up or nose down.
Kathy didn't feel like climbing these stairs.
The reason I had suggested we check this place out was in hopes of finding more LED light fixtures for our trailer. Some past comments had suggested that I just replace the bulbs instead of the fixtures and all would be good. We purchased 36 LED replacement bulbs for our trailer and installed them in 2012. By the end of the same year all but 4 had fallen apart. We’ve since found some great quality LED bulbs that fit our lamps but at twenty dollars a bulb times two per fixture replacing the entire fixture for only twenty-two dollars was more economical.

We stayed clear of the amusement rides and searched through most of the buildings which had many vendors selling the same as the other guy in the next building with only a few that carried unique merchandise or services. By 10:30 the only thing we’d purchased were a couple of fruit smoothies to help us cool down. After a brief rest we checked the outdoor merchants. Most of these looked like they had just emptied their closets and laid it on sheets on the ground to sell.

We were home by noon and busied ourselves making lunch. After eating we took the time to catch up on our morning reading that we’d missed. All this walking dictated that Kathy needed a half hour Snap. While she rested I walked to check out the laundry room and to purchase some coins for the machines. That walk to the front and back was almost a mile long.

I used the truck to go do the laundry because carrying a forty pound bag of clothes all that distance didn’t appeal to me. Kathy vacuumed the trailer and checked out a few other things online while I was gone.
Someone borrowed Kathy's hat.
When I returned I grilled a couple of sirloin steaks while Kathy baked a Sweet Potato as a side and made a nice cottage cheese fruit dish for dessert. Tomorrow we’ve already got plans made so we’ll let you know how that turns out. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Krackers

I went home the other day and I heard my dad screaming.

I said, "What's wrong?"

He said, "Your mother was pressing my trousers."

"My mother was pressing your trousers and you screamed?"

"Yes, I was still in them."

  1. That's one interesting assembly of venues in one place.

  2. We replaced only 4 led bulbs that are most used about 7 years ago and all still are good except one was replaced free, guess we got lucky.

  3. So I guess you didn't have any luck finding the light switch? We replaced most of our bulbs a few years ago from a site on e-Bay. They were cheap and so far most are still holding up well. I guess we got lucky too.
