Seeing Red.

Our Location today is Sugar Loaf Key, Florida, USA.

We relinquished our Party Animal Status last night because we didn’t even make it through a half hour of the band Haywire’s performance. Then we continued to hear them until 10:00 from the confines of our trailer. We thought that we’d be awake most of the night. Strangely exactly the opposite happened and we both slept soundly and didn’t wake until after 8:00 this morning.

We took the time to enjoy our breakfast and our morning blog reading before packing up and heading out. Yes this was a planned day in Key West where we had planned to once again spend the day but you know RVers plans are written in Jello.

Our first stop when we arrived at Key West was at Sandals to pick up some cheaper Key West T-shirts for myself and possibly something that Kathy has been looking for. They have huge roadside billboards everywhere you go advertising T-shirts at unbelievably low prices. Those shirts actually look pretty good to me but if you want really fancy ones better bring out the plastic card. Kathy actually found a few things she liked there as well but needed my support to walk after she looked at the price tags and decided to leave well enough on the shelves.
The Doberman seemed to be barking orders to his Helmsman.
By then it was nearing lunch time so we stopped at the Wendy’s further up Highway 1. We had no sooner ordered our sandwiches and sat down to eat when people started coming in forming a line back to the door and nearly out the door.  We were also honored to have a couple of groups on US Naval Students come in to Wendy’s for their lunches. Considering that the Naval Base is only a few miles back up the road they must have had Shore Leave.
He doesn't seem to mind camping on the beach.
The next stop was the reason we waited until today to go to Key West. We stopped at the offices of South Blood Services so that I could again donate blood. I’d looked it up online and this was their address but the receptionist told us that the location was in fact only their office and no longer a Blood Donor Clinic. She did however give us a list of the locations the Big Red Bus would be today through this weekend. Would you believe they were at Big Pine Key today taking blood donations. That was the opposite direction from our park than Key West itself. Kathy suggested we wait until Saturday to do it because our plan was to spend today in Key West.
He was watching the dogs.
Just on a whim we stopped at the nearby Kmart to see if by chance Kathy could find some Capris that she was looking for. After successfully trying on a few pair and settling on one Kathy needed to cool down and what better way to cool down but to walk in an Air Conditioned store. Kathy’s heels are still bothering her so again we looked for insoles for her shoes. As we continued walking we started getting ideas for Xxxxxxxxx gifts that were at prices we’ll never see back home in Ontario. After little discussion our shopping list is slowly diminishing.

Kathy has also been looking for another article of clothing since last year unsuccessfully so after leaving Kmart we drove the block to Sears. She did manage to find another pair of Capris but not what she was looking for. We weren’t even in the truck out in the parking lot when the cell phone rang. It was South Blood Services calling to see if I could donate blood because their blood supply is critically low. It was nearly 4:00 in the afternoon and what we wanted to see in Key West would again take another full day so Kathy said let’s go to Big Pine Key.

On our way out of Key West we noted on an Electronic Billboard that there was a Silver Alert being issued but we couldn’t read it all because we were already driving past it. One thing it gave was the make and license number of a silver colored car. From Key West all the way to Big Pine Key there must have been at least twenty silver colored cars that were pulled over by the various law enforcement agencies in the area checking them out.

We arrived in Summerland Key at the Big Red Bus at 4:15 and they were very happy that I stopped in. I was also informed that the Community Blood Services that I attended in Fort Myers have all merged with the South Blood Services so now I know that I’m officially registered as a blood donor in Florida. I also walked out with another Blood Donor T-shirt

On our way to Big Pine Key we had spotted another Tiki style bar and grill that we hadn’t tried yet. So on our return trip to our trailer we stopped in at Looe Key Bar and Grill. There was no indoor seating at this place but luckily there was a nice cool breeze blowing under the thatched roofed structure. The service was fast and delightful. The food was delicious and the prices reasonable the only problem was the hamburger that we ordered was huge. We probably could have ordered one to share. Kathy’s salad could have passed as a meal and my onion rings were fresh made from one large sized onion and I probably had a quarter of it.

Neither of us think we’ll be eating breakfast tomorrow and we’ll have to think if we’ll even eat lunch. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. Sandals on my list for t-shirt shopping.

You two are really, really becoming the modern-day party animals. You are making the over 50 group very proud.

  2. I guess we will have to try Looe Key Tiki Bar again. We went there once and didn't like it. It's always crowded so maybe we'd better give them another chance.

I used to have terrible pain in my heels. I thought it was due to bone spurs, but a friend told me it was probably plantar fasciitis, and stretching the arch area in the foot would help. It did, it worked and nor more pain.

I'll show you what I do when we see you tomorrow.

  3. I found when I walk with my good New Balance hiking shoes, I feel great and my back don't ache nor do my feet. But if I wear cheap tennis shoes, or sandals, I ache and feel like pains in my feet at night. For what it's worth.... a penny?

I try to splurge on a good quality tshirt on every trip. But also have found nice ones in the thrift shops of places I have already been, so I buy those too! LOL
