Big Surprises.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Last night was definitely a change of how we’ve been sleeping throughout this past winter and spring. Even when we were in Wapakoneta, Ohio at the KOA not only did we run both of our ceramic heaters in the trailer but we also had to run the furnace. When we got up and turned on the Weather Channel it showed a temperature of 28 F (-2 C) at 7:00 this morning for that area.

Like I said last night we weren’t sure where we’d be tonight and if we decided to arrive home today we wouldn’t be in a hurry to hit the road. While having our breakfast we made the call that instead of freezing another night in the trailer we’d have to suffer in our heated apartment.

With only having connected the electric and cable last night it only took about ten minutes to roll the cords because they were practically frozen in a stretched out position. Shortly after 9:00 we were rolling back on I-75 northbound headed for home.

We weren’t on the highway long and our GPS wanted us to turn around and head back south. With the cold temperatures that thought had crossed our minds but we knew we had to continue on. The strange thing is every GPS we have ever had never wants us to go north in the state of Ohio so we simply did the logical thing and shut it off.

We stopped for an early lunch at Cracker Barrel before reaching Toledo. Trying to make up for the last few days of over eating while on the road we each had a bowl of soup to warm us and we shared a turkey breast sandwich. The best part of the meal was relaxing away from the road.

Back on I-75 traffic was flowing through the constant road construction that takes place through the city of Toledo but before you realized it was happening you were crossing another state line into Michigan. Even if we had not seen the sign welcoming us to Michigan you knew simply by the feel of the roads. We both thought we were going to lose our lunch from the bouncing of the road. When the speed limit is 70 mph and truckers are driving slower than 50 mph you know it’s bad.
Arriving at the Ambassador Bridge we took advantage on fueling up at the duty free before crossing to Canada. The Immigration Officer caught us off guard when he asked to see our ownerships for the truck and trailer but then we talked about the change of weather they had experienced the other day. We officially cleared customs at 1:30 this afternoon.
Parking the trailer at the storage yard was bitter sweet because in one sense it felt good to be home but in the other sense it meant that this trip had come to an end. We emptied the fridge and freezer and grabbed the computers and headed for the apartment.
While Kathy was restocking our apartment fridge I continued hauling more from the truck including our well prized Weber Q.

We needed to surprise our kids since they weren’t expecting us until Friday evening. Our first stop was to check in on our daughter Karen who is struggling with recovering from a severe traffic accident back in February. She was glad to see her mom and I and so was Greg and Tyler who has really been growing since we’ve been gone. Kylla was out so we're sure she’ll be calling us in the morning. The one who really was glad to see Kathy and I was Sanford and he made sure to smother both of us with his doggy kisses.

Afterwards we headed out to Amherstburg to visit with our son Kevin and daughter-in-law Melissa and the boys Cameron and Matthew. They were just as shocked to see us home early but glad at the same time. We told them we were there for our Weekly Wednesday night visit. We did have to cut our visit short because there were a few things we’d forgotten at the trailer that we’ll need in the morning.

Even though we’ll be getting out for more adventures throughout this year tomorrow we have to start getting everything working again until we leave next winter. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.
