Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario,
Canada.
Something actually went right last night
when we both managed to sleep soundly until this morning waking up feeling
refreshed. We were up shortly after 8:00 and finished our breakfast and morning
reading shortly after 9:30. Once the grass had been watered we left Home by 10:00.
Hey Alice it's the Paparazzi back there. |
Kathy had an appointment this morning in Tecumseh at a Hearing Clinic and we weren’t sure of the
address location. Even after heading in the wrong direction towards the town
center a quick turnaround had us crossing the expressway where an immediate
turn into the plaza brought us to our destination. We were an entire half hour
early but as the receptionist said the paperwork would use up that time.

Back in her early years Kathy had
suffered from earaches and the doctors would recommend warmed olive oil as a
cure. Unfortunately, the last time it was done with hot oil that scarred her
eardrum. Recently, she has been having problems hearing different things so she
thought it was time to get it checked out. The results showed some hearing loss
but it also showed that she presently has liquid buildup behind the eardrum.
With that information she needs to see her family doctor again before returning
to the clinic.
Ignore her, she'll go away. |
It was only 11:30 when we arrived at Kathie’s apartment after a brief conversation we stole her
away. The place we took her to was the Michigan Diner on Tecumseh Road where we made certain she had a decent meal. Our meals were
all great and even though Kathie ate some of it she had to take the rest of it
home for her supper. Kathy and I went through the same problems after the loss
of our late spouses and it took someone to show they cared for us that finally
got us back to eating normally. We hope that giving Kathie that same type of
support will help her to recover after losing her husband Ross.
After filling our stomachs, we had a few
more errands to run with Kathie. The first was to Home Depot where she needed to pick up
some paint as she wants to add some accenting to different parts of her
apartment. Next we went to the Pet Store where she needed to get some
supplies for her pet birds.
We then dragged Kathie along as we
checked for our mail at Guardian Storage before going to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit. The
container that I was certain was there was not so it was time to return to her
apartment.

The first thing I did while there was to
assemble her new bedframe. The old one just decided to fold up after many years
of use. With a little assistance the box-spring and mattress were soon in position
making it easier for Kathie with her bad knee to be able to use the bed.
If you recall in yesterday’s post that I’d
used the tablesaw last night to cut a sill plate. It was now time to install
that sill plate but first I had a bunch of old rusted screws to get out of the
frame. There was no way two of those screws were coming out using a screwdriver
or pliers and they were in a spot that bending them with a hammer would only cause
more problems. Not having my tools with me the only answer was to go to
Canadian Tire and buy a pair of Vise-Grips. Even then those two screws only
came out one quarter of a turn at a time using those Vise-Grips all the way.
Once I’d finished that job I joined
Kathy and Kathie in the living room to cool down and continue a previous
conversation. It was nearly 6:00 when we finally said our good byes but we’ve
already made plans to help her with a few more projects.
When we finally got Home we found a couple of flower pot grown tomatoes sitting on
our picnic table. Every day when I water our grass and plants I also take the
time to water the neighbour’s flower pot garden so this was a little thank you
like the delicious beans we received a while back.
Since the Humidex was only 99 F (37 C) after 8:00 I decided it was a
good time to water the grass however as I started to do so I noticed someone had
mowed our grass. Since we are on the Do
Not Mow list at the office I can only presume one of our neighbours did it
for us. We have good neighbours that help one another at this park. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe
and Enjoy!
It’s about time.

How caring of you two to watch over Kathie. True definition of a great friend.
ReplyDeleteYou sure are busy ... even in those high temps and high humidity! And, yes, Kathie is fortunate to have such good friends.
