Since the start of the Coronavirus shutdown lots of things have changed such as our sleeping habits. For years I could will myself to wake by a certain time and seldom needed an Alarm to wake me. Now if I do the same thing and am lucky if I’m within Hour either side of that time.
This morning I managed to get up just after 8:30 so when Kathy joined me at 8:45 I was still getting things ready for breakfast. We finished our Coffee/Tea at the Computers and were getting dressed by 9:30 so we could be out the door by 10:00. Kathy comes for the ride as a way of fighting the Cabin Fever she’s been getting from being inside so much over the last Three Months.

I had an appointment to pick up the Paperwork and Prep Kit at the Endoscopic Center by 10:20. Having gotten all Green Traffic Lights we managed to be there within Ten Minutes. Since there were no other Cars in the parking lot I called to announce my arrival and was told to go right in while Kathy stayed in the Car. Ten Minutes later we were on our way to our next stop.

We headed over to Guardian Storage where the only thing we were concerned about was collecting our Mail.

Heading back up the road we stopped at the Pioneer gas station to top off the Car with gasoline. The prices have been increasing but they are still lower then they were last fall.
I suggested we stop at a different Dollarama since the one we normally go to is so busy they have a hard time to keep their shelves stocked. Today we stopped at one on Wyandotte Street East which is actually closer to the Apartment. There was someone cleaning the Shopping Carts as we entered. Most but not all the patrons were wearing Masks while the Employees only wore Gloves. Many patrons were ignoring the Arrows on the floor.

We were surprised that somethings that other stores had in stock they did not and things we had looked for at other locations they had. We’ve been shopping for certain grocery items that we know Dollarama carries and saving cash in the process. Since we haven’t been to this store for some time we were taking our time checking things out.

That was when my Cell Phone went off. It was our Family Doctor’s Office calling. I was asked to hold and Thirty Seconds later I was talking to our Family Doctor himself. There was nothing that showed on the X-ray so we discussed what I was experiencing. Since George could not pin-point the problem over the phone he said they will be seeing some patients in the Office next week. I’ll be seeing him on Monday.

We helped support Dollarama’s bottom line today.
Back at the Apartment by the time we had our purchases put away it was nearly 1:00 and past our normal lunch time. Kathy cooked up Perogies while I put together the dessert plate. We finished our Tea back at the Computers. Kathy hadn’t slept too well last night so she needed a Snap while I continued getting caught up on my morning Blog reading.

The other day we had a Comment asking what I meant about Loonies and Quarters for the Laundry so I’ll try to explain it better. I tried taking handheld photos with our Point and Shoot Camera but ended up finding these pictures On-Line for clarity.
A Loon thus giving our One Dollar Coin the name
the Loonie.

As way of cutting cost related to replacing the Canadian One Dollar Bills in 1987 the Mint introduced a One Dollar Coin. Since there was a Loon (which according to the Internet is not the Canadian National Bird) stamped on the back of the coin everyone started affectionately calling them Loonies.
A Polar Bear on our Two Dollar Coin but it is referred to as
a Toonie.

Since the Loonie proved to be so successful nine years later in 1996 the Canadian Two Dollar Coin was introduced. Since the One Dollar Coin was affectionately called the Loonie and it was a Two Dollar Coin automatically became known as the Toonie.

Vending Machines or Laundry Machines that use Coins are specific to the Country so here in Canada they use Canadian Coins and in the US they use American Currency. Most laundromats will specify the currency to be used. The quarters in the US have George Washington on one side with an Eagle on the other. In Canada most of our coins have the Queen stamped on one side with different animals stamped on the other.

Production of the penny ceased in May 2012, and the Royal Canadian Mint ceased the distribution of them as of February 4, 2013. However, like all discontinued currency in the Canadian monetary system, the coin remains legal tender.
For supper Kathy made Macaroni and Cheese while I again made the dessert plate.
We watched the 6 o’clock Local News then finished watching the last half of a movie. With cooler temperatures forecasted for the weekend we’ll see what we can get into. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. My great aunts and uncles migrated to Canada, while my grandfather came on down to California. I still have lots of their Canadian coins. Love the names ... loonies and toonies.

  4. So strange talking to your doctor while shopping. I was in a store last week when mine called me back about needing a script. Different times indeed. Good luck on Monday.

  5. We had about $10 worth of Canadian money left from when we traveled thru on way to Alaska back in 2014. Last summer daughter and family were going to their favorite area to vacation .... Nova Scotia. The granddaughters loved getting the cash.
