Active In More Ways Than One

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

After all the nights that we’ve had rotten sleep lately and have been waking early we figured that would be perfect because we needed to get up early today. Instead we both slept so solid that it took the ringing of the phone to wake us this morning. By the time I picked up the handset whoever it was had hung up. It didn’t take us long to get dressed and out the door without making the bed or having breakfast.

Our destination was our daughter Karen’s house which is about a mile away. The family had to go to Kitchener 150 miles away today to attend a funeral of a dear friend that at the age of 93 passed in her sleep. The problem was Sanford was left home and needed us to visit with him and let him out. In other words we were dog sitting our Grandfurkid today.

We had been instructed on his feeding times and the times he should be let out. When I opened the patio door he simply went out and stood there waiting for me to go play. He remember me doing that for the last couple of years so I wasn’t getting off easy. Using a Ball Chucker I was able to get him to tire himself out before bringing him back in for his breakfast.
This is Moe the Canary.
Kathy had been busy filling Sanford’s water and food bowls as well as uncovering and feeding Moe. Moe is Ashley’s pet Canary and he sings the most beautiful songs. We waited until Sanford cooled down a bit before we left.

Since it was nearly 10:00 and we hadn’t had our breakfasts yet we drove to the nearby A&W. Using coupons we each had a single Bacon Egger and coffee. We took our time to eat slowly and didn’t leave until we’d finished our coffees.

Instead of going home we went back to Karen’s. Since we’d be returning a few more times throughout the day we really hadn’t planned anything. While having our breakfast we had talked of taking Sanford for a walk. When we took his collar and leash out he was near the door in a matter of seconds waiting to go.
Sanford waiting to go for his walk.
We had seen our granddaughter Kylla walking Sanford down Tecumseh Road so that was the route we took. We knew there was a doggie park so we headed there first where he could do his business. Yes we cleaned up after him before continuing our walk. Most of the time he would grab the leash in his mouth making it as short as possible. Looking at that from afar you would have wondered who was walking who. Back at the house it didn’t take long for Sanford to drink his entire bowl of water. We’d later drive the same route so we could measure it and we came up with a 1.75 mile walk.

We finally made it back to the apartment where Kathy finished off the last of her book keeping. I took my time emptying the truck and brought all the containers that I have to sort from the trailer onto a tarp along the wall of the dining room. Carrying all that weight up the stairs also helped to give me extra exercise.

It was close to 3:00 when we again went to let Sanford out to do his thing and again he brought the ball to play with. Kathy was busy talking with Moe who was singing up a storm because he had a visitor. Karen had left the television on low to calm the pets and it worked. When Sanford came in we waited before leaving because he was panting so hard from playing outside.

When we left I talked Kathy into going to Wendy’s for one of their salad diners but not the full sized ones we normally ate but the half sized. We added a small frosty to go with that and were more than satisfied when we left.
"Hey! Come out and play with me."
We had a few stops to make before heading home. Our office lamp gave up its ghost last night so we replaced it with a 26 watt sunlight fluorescent floor lamp. When we got home and installed it the room was brighter than our other lamp had ever been.

We made another run to let Sanford out a final time around 8:00. While Kathy covered Moe for the night I had to toss the ball a few more times before Sanford did his thing and came in. We just heard from Karen saying they’d be home soon and thanking us for taking care of the pets. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
