Happy New Year and Nice Weather Returns.

Our Location today is Old Town, Florida, U.S.A.

Oh the difference that a day makes or is that a year? As Kathy and I read our morning blogs today we noticed that most of the RVers we follow had either stayed close to their RVs or simply didn’t stay out until midnight to bring in the New Year. Even corresponding with our granddaughters back home this evening they said they simply went to a friend’s home and had a simple and quiet celebration. Last night Kathy and I had found a movie on television that we had never seen so we watched it. When it ended I went upstairs to turn down the bed while Kathy channel surfed to find the news. Suddenly she was calling me that the countdown was on. We actually brought the New Year in with a kiss. (We’re such party animals!)

Yesterday we were fighting some kind of bug and the weather was not co-operating to our benefit with a temperature that never broke the 50 F (10 C) mark. That caused us to spend the day inside with the cube heater running the majority of the time. Today we saw the temperature rise outside to 64 F (18 C) on the rear window thermometer of the trailer before noon so we thought of exploring.

This is our third year coming to Yellow Jacket RV Park and we always travel back to Old Town to get any needed supplies. In those three years we have never traveled any further south on the State Road that brings us to the park. Wanting some fresh air that’s what we did after lunch.

Leaving the park we headed south on the State Road and drove for 15 miles to the community of Suwanee. It is mostly a fishing village with only a single tavern and a variety store. Many of the homes have been around for a great number of years but there are a few newer buildings. One thing that sets this community apart is that the homes are constructed between ten and twenty feet off the ground to protect them from tidal surge from hurricanes and most have their own private docks. Some of the homes have their own elevators besides stairs to get in. When you reach the end of the road there are only private drives so you just head back where you came from.

Now that we had quelled our curiosity and we were shaking off the Cabin Fever from yesterday we drove the twenty-five miles back to Old Town finding most everything other than the hardware store open. We drove around some of the back streets finding this to be quite a nice community with homes built on proper foundations.

By the time we got back to the trailer Kathy opened the windows to let the fresh air in. I busied myself flushing the holding tanks, prepping the truck for towing and putting things back where they belonged in the basement. I did however leave the Weber Q out because I later grilled a couple of nice hamburgers for our supper and you can’t beat the taste when they’re grilled on the Weber.
I'm preparing to flush our holding tanks.
Tomorrow we’ll be getting on the road as soon as we can making our way to Moore Haven for the next month. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. I remember back in 2011 when we had a few medical problems we thought about looking for a house & property in Florida, Figured it would be much closer to home if we needed to get home quick. Properties we looked at on-line were in the very area you are in around Old Town. A Realtor in that area still sends us house & property listings.. All the best to you guys in the coming year.
