Kathy and I had a wonderful time last night watching the
Platters Impersonators bringing us back to our growing up years. During the nineteen
sixties the Motown Record Company that started in downtown Detroit
was the label for many groups and individuals that spent time at the top of the
National charts. Gladys Knight and the Pips, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles,
Aretha Franklin, the Platters, even the Jacksons’ just to name a few who shared
the Motown label.
The Impersonators did a great job of having the audience participating
in singing along even dancing on the stage or if you didn’t want to get on the
stage you could just groove to the Rhythm in your seats. This group of
performers had only been together for 37 days and we were only their seventh
performance. This is not the same group that many may have seen in Vegas. They all
have interesting histories and had never worked together before but the common
thread was that they all loved the sound of Motown music.

We slept well last night not waking until nearly 8:00 before getting ready to break camp. By the
time I had completed my inside chores and was about to go outside the rain that
had been predicted started coming down with intensity dropping the temperature from
64F (18C) down to 52F (11C) before we would leave the park. I had delayed
flushing our tanks but finished that easily while prepping other things to go
and luckily I carry a full rain suit in the trailer which helped keep me mostly
dry.
Leaving the park it took us nearly an hour as we made our
way from the campground out to I-40 before reaching I-75 to start our
northbound trek. The rain continued the whole day ranging anywhere from a mist
to rain that had the wipers going fast and the traffic going slow. Most of the
time the clouds were so thick that you didn’t know if you were climbing or descending
the hills or you never realized that the highway took us through the mountains
unless you noticed the change in your speed. This is the type of weather that
we normally avoid traveling in but we are slowly making our way home with
commitments that need our attention before the end of the month.
We finally stopped at Cracker Barrel just before noon and enjoyed their Friday Fish Fry. The
catfish was delicious as usual and so was their new Peach Cobbler that we had
for dessert. When we came outside the temps were much cooler than when we had
gone inside so we went in the trailer to put long pants and jackets under our
raincoats.
Back on the highway it was another hour before we reached
our exit for the day. We have used Corbin Kentucky K.O.A. many times when traveling
and even for a few down days. When we got out of the truck and we could see our
breath in the cooler damp air as we were further north and in the mountains.
The drizzle continued until after we were set up and we have
been using the electric heater to take the dampness out of the inside of the
trailer. We noted that we were one of ten trailers when we arrived but within
the next three hours we counted twenty-five units pulling in for the night.
This is a great little stay over night park off of highway 1-75.
Tomorrow we’ll continue our trek and stop in Wapakoneta Ohio
for a few days but I’m sure we’ll find something to keep us busy. Thanks for
following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
