Officially Registered, Tucson Breaks Its High Temperature Record, Race Cars Are Back, and Sticker Issues.

Our Location today is Pima County Fairgrounds, Tucson, Arizona, U.S.A.

The sound of the Stockcar Racing around the track finally stopped just minutes before we went to bed last night at 11:00 pm. Just knowing that we didn’t have to drive anywhere this morning helped us to relax enough that we both slept soundly. We have developed an internal alarm that says it’s time for us to get up so by 8:00 Arizona Time we were sitting having our breakfast.

There was one thing we did have to do today and that was to go register for the 57th Escapade here at the Pima County Fairgrounds. We took the time to check our E-mails before heading out the door but save everything else for later knowing that we wouldn’t be walking too far in the afternoon heat.

Vendors just getting set up.
It was after 10:00 when we started walking towards the front of the Fairgrounds in an attempt to familiarize ourselves with where the different buildings were located as this is our first time at this location. It would take nearly fifteen minutes walking around in the Morning Heat before we found Old Pueblo Hall. With only a short line of Early Birds ahead of us we were soon registered and given our Credentials so that we may enjoy the rest of the Escapade.
Here is where you buy your Memorabilia.
Each time we attend one of theses we add another date tag to our original giving us three compared to some that have quite the collection. Wanting information about the planned Blood Drive taking place on Tuesday we went to the Hospitality Desk to inquire when the Sign-Up Sheet would be available. Much to my surprise it was being setup by Bill and Jan Mains from Bill and Jan RVing in the USA. This was the first time they got to meet Kathy as she had been feeling under the weather when I had met them at the Good Sam’s RV Rally at the Phoenix International Speedway last month. They gave me the information I needed and we’ll try to stop by their place for a visit in the next few days.

We checked out a few Vendors that were slowly setting up outside of Old Pueblo Hall. Since it was past 11:30 we decided to share an order of Nacho Chips and a BLT Wrap for our lunch. Finding shade to enjoy our meal also allowed us to watch all the Chaos that was taking place as other vendors were trying to get their wares inside the building to their booths.

We finally started heading back to our trailer at the very back of the Fairgrounds in what was deemed to be the Solar Boondocking Area. We managed to stay out of the direct Sunlight as much as possible and were only five hundred feet away from Home when a Courtesy Golf Cart gave us a ride shortening our walk.

Going Online to check things out when The Weather Network indicated it was 91 F (33 C) with 2% Humidity we understood why we are so thirsty all the time. It also indicated Tucson had broken its Twenty-Eight Year High Record for this day. They also indicated that there was Zero MPH wind coming from the South. Strangely our Home was being given hard jarring shakes when hit by that non-existent wind. Later they would change the winds to 19 MPH gusts but that sounded more like the normal wind speed with higher gusts in between.

By 1:00 this afternoon the Race-Cars were once again running circles around the Racetrack to the Southwest corner of the Fairgrounds. Even using the Main Inverter so we could use the Ceiling Fan it just seemed we couldn’t cool the inside of the trailer down. Luckily the Sun had moved to the Roadside of the trailer giving us plenty of cool shade to sit in by our door. While Kathy read a book I got an early start at writing the Blog.
Around 4:00 Kathy brought out a couple of store bought Turkey Pot Pies left in their own little Pie Pans for me to cook on our Weber. Using a Pizza Stone to distribute the heat and a Pizza Pan to catch any drippings in Thirty-Five minutes later they were done to perfection unlike our first attempt weeks ago. Kathy also made a wonderful Salad and Strawberry-Covered Yogurt with a dollop of Cool Whip for added flavouring.

After we finished washing the dishes we headed back out to our shady spot to cool down. There seemed to be actual races that were being run this evening as we could here announcements being made over the Public-Address System from that direction.

We’ve been having issues since we arrived with little thorn like Stickers on the bottom of our shoes getting attached to the rugs inside the trailer. We thought that we had brought them from Snyder Hill BLM. This evening while we were sitting in the cool shade a couple of our neighbours commented about the Stickers. They said last year they had been parked on the Asphalt and didn’t have that problem. Hopefully they won’t make the same mistake again. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. That heat and I would be wiped out. But, you will surely enjoy your time there. Keep hydrated!

  2. Those stickers are called goatheads or puncher-vines, depending on where you come from. I keep a mat outside my door and scrub my feet upon entering, where I put ANOTHER rug to catch any residual ones.

The wind blows there almost every day, making it tolerable if you're in the shade. If you're into sunsets, a walk over to the outdoor bandstand will give you a front row seat. If it's open, go around back and climb up the steps to where the band plays. Hope you enjoy the Escapade.

  3. Sounds like you are all settled in and ready to enjoy your time there.
Some friends were telling us about how miserable those goatheads can be.
With all that heat be sure the two of you stay hydrated.
