Coyote Scare, Bad Relay But Project Compete and Trip to Blythe.

Our Location today is La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, Arizona, U.S.A. 

In last night’s blog post I mentioned how we were really being Serenaded by the Coyotes. Moments after posting it Kathy had finished her evening shower and was back at the Computer while I was just about to take mine we heard first a Coyote Howling then the sound of two of them duking it out as they slammed against our trailer. It caused the hair to stand on the back of both our necks and it wasn’t long before Kathy came upstairs for the night. 

We slept fairly soundly through the night not even giving the incident a second thought until we were about to have breakfast at 7:30 MST this morning. We thought of a few possible reasons though none made any sense. By 8:00 this morning I was already outside to see of any Tell-Tale Signs of what happened last night. There was nothing outwardly visible but we both know that we didn’t imagine what we heard and felt. 

The real reason I was outside so early was to complete the project that we both worked on yesterday before the heat of the day set in. This all started days ago with the discovery that Jayco along with probably half the RV Manufacturers today have found ways to make something Simple into a Nightmare. To install a simple Illuminating Switch would then require redesigning the wiring to what should have been an easy task in the first place. 

Hard to believe how the Desert is greening up.

Changing the Switch was the start of the Nightmare. Tracing the wires to the Relay System that was designed so that only a Jayco Qualified Technician could work on the system but it still would not have had the Lighted Switch. Due to not being able to trace the path of the Power-Feed to the Security Light we needed to fish a new lead ourselves that would take another day to complete under very warm weather conditions. 

This morning I was emptying the Basement for the last time because of this Security Light Switch. It took about ten minutes to finish running the new lead wire into the wiring harness to make it blend in and over to the Relay. After installing the Fuse and the Connector I went upstairs and turned on the Switch. The Switch glowed its Amber colour perfectly but when I went outside the Security Light was not lit. The first thing I checked with the test light was where the Power was. The power was going to the Relay and the Switch, the power was also returning from the Switch to the Relay but there was no power going from the Relay to the Light. This was a brand new Relay but it was defective. I always carry spare relays and as soon as I replaced the defective Relay the Security Light was working the way we wanted it to.

I had reassembled the rear basement wall and put everything else away by 11:00 this morning. After changing from my work clothes, we were soon on our way to Quartzsite for a few errands. The first stop was Discount Solar but as we pulled up to their locked gates I remembered they are not open on the Weekends. Our next stop at Family Dollar netted us a case of drinking water for Kathy and a couple of new Coffee Mugs. 

It was 11:50 when we arrived at the K-mart in Blythe California. We had plenty to do so the first thing we did was to order a Medium Hawaiian Pizza for our lunch since they always say don’t go shopping on an empty stomach. We both needed some clothing as well as some material that Kathy was looking for. 

Driving over to O’Reilly’s Auto Parts to replace the taillight I damaged on the Bicycle Carrier while removing our Tandem Bike only took a short amount of time as Sergio was there to help us out. 

The next stop was the Ace Hardware Store where I picked up some Carriage Bolts and Kathy scratched another Christmas Gift off her list. 

Our last stop was Albertson grocery store where Kathy found everything she had on her Grocery List. When it was time to head to the Checkout we realized we’d forgotten our Reusable Shopping Bags back at Home. When we mention to the clerk we needed to buy bags and he said not to worry because Kellogg’s was running a Promo and were giving away Reusable Bags with their name on it. 

When we got Home it was a mad scramble to open the closed shades to increase the air circulation. As soon s we lowered our Awning outside the inside temperature of the trailer dropped down to 97 F (36 C). We pushed ourselves to get all the Groceries and other Purchases put away but then we had to sit and cool down. The outside temp may have only been 91 F (33 C) but the sun would have cooked supper in no time. 

We waited until 5:30 to have a Hotdog for our main meal and a few treats to top it off. As the Sun was setting it was cooler sitting in the shade of the trailer reading than inside. Since we didn’t have a Campfire going as soon as it grew dark there was no way we were staying outside after Last Night.
