Our Location today is Moore Haven, Florida.
This getting up early because we have something to do or
someplace to go has got to slow down. Yes we wake up early a lot of times with
nothing scheduled to do. We do enjoy getting out to see different special
events that we might not see next year but do they have to schedule them on the
same weekend.
We slept in until 7:02 this morning but that’s what you get
when you don’t set the alarm. After having breakfast and making the bed we were
on our way. Following instructions from our GPS Scout we were surprised when we
travelled through yesterday’s destination Lakeport, Florida again. It was no mistake
as the highway we needed to use to get to where we were going passed right through Lakeport.
Today’s destination was to Okeechobee, Florida and their
annual Art fest and Chalk Walk. Our drive lasted about an hour and went
flawlessly until we were told our destination was the parking lot of a now
closed business. Since Kathy knew the name of the park we were supposed to go
to she went to Points of Interest in the GPS found the park set it as our next
stop and two minutes later we were there.

Artist David Joyner |
Most of the vendors were selling pictures demonstrating
their artistic abilities such as David Joyner who was busy creating a picture
of none other than a Manatee. He truly had captured the realism in all his
pictures but was surprised to know it was safe to swim with them. Now he plans
on swimming with the Manatees himself so he can better capture their nature in
his paintings. Here is a link to his site.
John Megill |
Another vendor was John and Dawn Megill who had quite an
impressive array of artistically homemade family wear that had practical uses
around any one’s home. They have just started attending these types of
functions as vendors but he was also interested as to why my hat read “It’s
about time”. I called them later to tell them their website had a problem and
when they get it fixed I’ll post a link to it as well.

Unfortunately like yesterday attendance was said to be way
down from last year and there were only a handful of Chalk Artists changing the
look of the streets. Once we’d seen everything we could we thought of visiting
the Flea Market we had spotted on the way into town. The purchases for the day
was a wider spatula for flipping fish fillets and some tomatoes and an onion Kathy
will use to make soup.
Since it was now past lunch we stopped at The Lodge in
downtown Okeechobee. Kathy had read only good reviews on this restaurant and
when you have a large parking lot filled that tells you something. It was very
clean with a nice décor the prices were very reasonable and the portions were
just the right size. If you really wanted to eat they also had a buffet you
could choose either breakfast or lunch items at 12:00 noon. There was a ten
minute wait but tasting the food told you why.
After looking around a few more shops we headed back to the
trailer and got home just in time to attend their Ice Cream Social. These
Sundaes were much smaller than at Rock Crusher RV Park but they were only $1.50
each and they made a great afternoon snack. DQ would have charged at least
$3.00 each.
Tucker letting Kathy pet him. |
Lilli feeling safe by Rick. |
On our way back to the trailer we stopped to talk with
Elaine and Rick who had things to do that had kept them from coming with us this
morning. Kathy got her puppy fix when Tucker allowed her to pet him but played
strange to me if I made eye contact with him. Lily checked us out and sat with
Rick knowing she’d be safe there.
After we got home I grilled a couple of hamburgers on the
Weber while Kathy made up potato salad for our side. Sadly we finished the last
of the Sour Orange pie for dessert. Thanks for following along and feel free to
leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
