Day of Good Results

Today's Location is Elkhart, Indiana, U.S.A.

Kathy and I had our usual sleep with one eye open because we knew the alarm was set this morning. After breakfast kathy had the inside of the trailer secured within a half hour. It took me about forty-five minutes to prep the truck and trailer hook up and finish stowing everything outside. We were on the road by 9:15 heading for our appointment at MorRyde in Elkhart. As we followed the directions of the GPS we soon ended up behind a truck that looked to be moving furniture with an undersized vehicle. We kept a safe distance back because it looked like he was about to loose his load.

Arriving early meant they could get an earlier start we thought. The service rep noted a concern of how close the trailer and the top of the truck bed were. The next thing you have is five engineers measuring and calculating. After confirring they concluded it would be unsafe to install our emergency escape ladder due to lack of clearance. The clearance between the truck box and the trailer was eight inches. The thickness of the ladder, platform and support was four inches.  Any maneuvering on uneven terrain would easily use up six inches of clearance resulting in a loud noise nobody wants to hear.
The emergency ladder is on hold for now but we did get the pinbox replaced and MorRyde even bought us lunch. They have a great waiting area with free coffee, pop, water and snacks with television and tons of magazines to keep you occupied.
When we left the roads in the area were not the greatest and I noticed the difference in that there was less chucking on the truck.
Since we were going to be meeting up with Gerry and Sandy Bronstein later we moved camp to the Elkhart Campground which was closer to MorRyde and Goshen then the Middlebury Campground. We were set up by 2:00 and got a call from Gerry to say they were just on their way to pick up their trailer.
By 5:00 they were just pulling in to their site next to us. Their trailer looked great. In less then two days the shop had replaced the entire rear wall and damaged side panels and replaced the damaged leveling jack and cargo tray plus adding additional marker turning lights. They had squeezed Gerry and Sandy's trailer in because they knew they were from out of town besides getting all the other jobs completed. There was no signs that the trailer had argued with a tree.
By 6:30 we headed to Perkin's for Supper. The meals were great and priced reasonably. By the time we got back at 8:30 it was time to relax by the fire. By 10:30 we called it a night with plans to do a few chores around the trailers tomorrow. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. That was quite a packing job the guy did with the pickup truck.
Sorry the emergency ladder didn't work out, but good the engineers were there to advise you.
