Wrapping Things Up.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

It wasn’t perfect but at least we slept last night. The first thing that Kathy had to do this morning, was to check her Blood Sugar Level and it came in at 8.1 probably due the Thin-Crust Pizza we shared yesterday.

After our Muffin and Yogurt Cups for breakfast we tried Peppermint Tea while on our Computers. Not something we’ll try again but we still have more to finish off. I tried tracking our On-Line Package but there was no change since Friday. They probably don’t work on the Weekends.

There were less people walking the Trail this morning, probably due to 5 F (-15 C) temperatures. Those that did, were dressed with heavier Coats than yesterday.

For lunch we settled for Veggie Wraps as a way of cleaning up Leftovers.

While Kathy went back to her Computer, I disappeared in the bedroom. I had brought the bag containing Gift Wrapping Supplies and was surprised to find a couple of pieces of Wrapping Paper cut to the size I needed, with Scotch Tape still attached. When the Tape easily came off, I tried using it for wrapping a few gifts myself. Of the Three different types of Tape we had, none would keep this Wrapping Paper together. I found another roll of Wrapping Paper to finish the task. At least now all the Gifts are under the Christmas Tree.

When I asked Kathy about the Wrap that could not be taped, she simply said she forgot to tell me about it. We’ll find a use for it.

Since our activity level was not high today, neither was our hunger, so we had Baked Beans on Toast for our supper, with a small dish of Frozen Yogurt with the remaining Blueberries from the Fridge.

I try to change things up once in a while, so instead of watching Hallmark Christmas Movies, we managed to watch “Santa Clause II”, then “Home Alone II” before finally seeing “Home Alone”. Though we’ve seen them before, they kept us laughing.

We won’t be sitting around tomorrow. Thankfully the temperatures will go Above Freezing but is forecasted to bring lots of Flurries with it.

Another Surgeon’s Visit and Homemade Soup.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Well I counted my chickens before they were hatched, thinking that one good night’s sleep would lead to another. Even though I would fall back to sleep within minutes, I probably woke more than a Dozen times throughout the night. Don’t forget, when I have a rough night, Kathy’s sleep is affected as well.

We were up minutes after 8:00, settling for a Muffin and Yogurt Cup for breakfast. Though the Sun was shining outside, the Temperatures were in the Teens (-7 C) so with our Coffees at the Computers we talked about what we needed to get done before Christmas.

After catching up on our Blog reading it was time to get busy and the first thing was an early lunch. Since it’s been over a Week, because we’ve been trying to keep Kathy’s Blood Sugar Levels down (7.1 Av.), we shared a Store-Bought Thin-Crust Medium Pizza with extra Olives and Mozzarella Cheese.

Knowing that we’ll be busy this week, we had to do our Laundry. I was nearly finished sorting it, when our Friends Gerry and Sandy called. We both had our phones on speaker but the girls just listen to us comparing notes. Exactly a year ago, Gerry had the same Surgery that I did and had his One Year Follow-Up this past week. What his Surgeon told him, was not to do any Exercise but simply use Hot and Cold Compresses on his Hip. Like my Surgeon, they seem to forget that we still need to maintain the rest of our bodies. The Therapist I saw over Thirty Years ago, told me I would have to exercise for the rest of my life, even if it’s light workouts once a week. We also talked about future trips in our RVs. Time will tell and we all know that as much as we love the Lifestyle, there comes a day when everyone hangs up the keys.

Though there were some clothes in a couple of Dryers when we got to the Second Floor Laundry Room, we never saw anyone. Once our clothes were locked away in the Washers, we headed back to the Apartment.

Looking out our Balcony Door at the Ganatchio Trail, everyone was bundled up wearing Winter Coats, Gloves and Toques, to stay warm. Only fitting since we are now officially in the Winter Season. Hoping Spring comes around just as fast.

Once everything was folded and put away, I started prepping for supper. I’m still experimenting with different foods, while not Wasting anything we already have. I was blanching Roma Tomatoes while cutting the rosettes off the Broccoli branch. After the Broccoli was sauteing and the Tomatoes simmering, I chopped a fair sized block of Cheddar Cheese to add to the mix. With Black Pepper and Basil for added seasoning it was enough to satisfy our appetites and tasted good. (No Garlic Juice was added this time.)

After the Dishes were cleaned up we watched another Hallmark Christmas Movie. “Tis the Season” and it makes us smile.

Sleep, Shopping and Saving.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Click on the pictures to enlarge.

That was odd, I Planned on using the full Nighttime Mickey to help me sleep and it worked. I only remember waking once before getting up at a decent hour this morning. Like yesterday opening the Blinds let in very little light to brighten things up. We had Flurries that would continue the entire day. After pulling the covers down and rattling a few dishes around in the kitchen Kathy soon found her way out to join me. She had a few wakeful moments throughout the night, and it wasn’t from me tossing or turning.

We stayed close to the Computers this morning, where I was trying to Track a Package, we’d ordered On-Line. According to the Tracking Number, it is somewhere in Northern Saskatchewan. I have this feeling we might get it between the Holidays.

Shortly after having Grilled Cheese Sandwiches for lunch, we headed out the door. Since I still needed to finish my Christmas Shopping for Kathy, I needed some alone time. It’s nice to get out and not be cooped up all day so after a brief talk, I dropped Kathy off outside of the Tecumseh Mall, before driving to the Other Store.

It took a little longer than I expected mainly because when I was there before, my body was sending me mixed messages. Today the selection before me was greatly diminished and I had to think outside of Kathy’s comfort zone without going too far. Once that was accomplished it was time to find Kathy, back at the Mall.

I actually snagged a Handicap Parking Spot directly across from the entrance. I started by just walking and looking inside every storefront that I passed. That wasn’t working so when I reached the end of the hall, I called her Phone Number only to hang up when it went to Voice Mail. I moved a few more times still looking and calling, before I just happen to see her heading in my direction. She had been trying on clothes in a couple of stores and had not heard her Phone ringing in the bottom of her Purse.

After all the walking we’d both done and that it was nearly suppertime, we stopped at Wendy’s for our meal. We seem to be beating the rush when we go out to eat lately, because again the place filled up right after we sat down to eat.

Kathy saw me carrying a Bag into our building but not was in it. The Bag disappeared inside the Apartment. I’ve always lived by a saying that has always worked for me. “If you hide it right in front of them, they’ll never find it”. It works.

There are more changes to our Roller Coaster Weather Forecast, though we are happy, many others might not be.

We ended the evening with another Hallmark Christmas Movie.

What Thought Got.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Click on the pictures to enlarge.

After having a decent night’s sleep on Tuesday, I Thought that I could repeat that on Wednesday. I Thought wrong! I tossed around until 2:30 in the morning before heading to my Recliner. I tried massaging the Pain from my Neck, but it only eased a bit, so back to my Recliner I went. Like last week I Thought I would snooze for an Hour or Two before heading back to bed. Imagine what I Thought when the Clock indicated I had been there for nearly Five Hours.

The Cloud coverage was so thick that there was little difference inside after I opened the Balcony Blind. With that in mind, I Thought by opening the Bedroom Blind that Kathy would soon join me. Unfortunately, the short time I was in bed, did not help her to sleep, so she needed to catch up on her rest.

Since Kathy does not like a large breakfast and it was halfway to lunch, I Thought that we would share a Bacon/Veggie Omelette. That worked like a charm and we only had a Coffee until supper.

Kathy hung a sign on the Bedroom Door to keep me out. She wasn’t mad at me, she just wanted to wrap my Christmas Gifts without me peeking. Our Late Spouses were bad for that.

We again watched the 6 o’clock Local News from the dining table. I had Thought for certain that we might actually have a White Christmas this year. With our roller coaster weather, it appears we’ll have a White Weekend and Wet Christmas. Stay tuned, because tomorrow’s forecast could change everything again.

After watching a Hallmark Christmas Movie, I am taking the full dose Nighttime Mickey before going to bed. I Thought, I’d really like to sleep.

Trading Things Up and Moving On.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Click on the pictures to enlarge.

That was truly a game changer, when last night I only woke once, then slept until morning, in bed without going to my recliner.

I’ve spoken before how Kathy and I seemed to switch who is having a Bad Night, well last night it was Kathy who was staring at the ceiling, thinking about things that she hadn’t in a long time. It was 2:30 before she closed her eyes.

It was another snack for breakfast, having a Muffin and Yogurt Cup. We had an extra Hour, so we both took a quick look at our Computers, before heading out.

The Northerly Winds were light but they reminded us that it was Mid-December. We were glad to be sheltered inside the Car.

Taking the E.C. Rowe Expressway across town made things easier, since there are still plenty of Construction Zones going around town.

We arrived at the Canadian Blood Services building on Howard Avenue, located at the Roundhouse Center with time to spare. I invited Kathy to sit inside where it was warmer and she could read her book. Inside it seemed strange, because all the workers that I had become familiar with over the years were not there. After filling in my Pre-Donation Form then the normal health screening, I was set to go, but the Machine wasn’t. These Plasma Machines are similar to those used for Kidney Dialysis and need to be scrubbed after each donation. As Katelyn was setting it up, she spotted something floating inside the chamber. After moving me to a different chair and getting me started, the Nurses worked collectively to fix the Machine. The culprit was a speck of a Paper Towel, probably from the last cleaning.

I could see that Kathy was just sitting and looking lost. Since this takes a lot longer than a Whole Blood Donation, I asked Katelyn If she would just tell her it was okay to be there. Instead she asked Kathy if she had ever seen the process, then brought her a chair to sit by me. Kathy was full of Questions and we both explained as best as we could. Just as we were about to leave, some of the Staff that I had known over the years were just arriving for their shifts.

We drove approximately 500 Feet in the parking lot to the nearby Pita Pit, where they were having their $7.00 Specials. There were only Two People ahead of us, but the line started growing right behind us. By the time we were ready to leave we had to excuse our way through the crowd inside waiting to make their orders, just to exit.

From there we drove across Howard Avenue to the Devonshire Mall. Trying to find parking anywhere in the front was a waste of time, so we drove to the south end. Just as we arrived a Handicap Parking Spot opened up. The problem with those, is they are farther from the door than most regular spots, if there had been any available.

The reason we were here was not as much to find anything in particular, but to kill some time. Since Kathy has not had much luck finding pants On-Line, that was what we started looking for. The big challenge is that most stores today carry the latest fashion designed for very young individuals, not Kathy’s cup of tea. We had searched at least Five stores on our own unsuccessfully when a clerk sent us back past Santa Claus, to a place we had already been. This time when asked what we were looking for, we answered. The clerk had Kathy trying her style of pants and within Three Pair had a perfect fit.

We had just enough time to get back to the Car and drive north on Howard Avenue. Notice that everything was within a Mile of the other locations.

It was time to stop looking like a couple of Sheepdogs and get Haircuts. We waited the last Ten Minutes inside Fantastic Sam’s before Julia arrived for her shift. Within minutes she has us looking much better.

We took our time using Tecumseh Road to head towards home. That gave us a chance to see that many of the Construction Projects were finished for the season, which will make travelling easier.

After watching the 6 o’clock Local News and another program, we turned on our Computers for the night.

We’re hoping we sleep well tonight knowing that we don’t have any appointments tomorrow. We’ll see what we get into.

Unwanted Changes and Good News.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Even after taking my Nighttime Mickey that I have not used for a couple weeks, I still spent time in my Recliner last night. Most people kid around about having a “Pain In The Neck”, while I have lived with it for over Thirty Years. The problem is that it is getting worse, and Doctors are not in a hurry to help me out.

Luckily, the Alarm woke me at 8:00 and I simply opened the Blinds pulled the Covers off of Kathy’s head. Though the Clouds were thick there was still enough light in the room to wake her.

Kathy’s Blood Sugar Level tested in what the Doctor called the Acceptably Moderate Level. Though we didn’t have time to spend on the Computers, I did want to check The Weather Network. After years of having the perfect format, it was changed in September. Not only do I watch what happens where we live but places like Quartzsite, New Port Richie, Bayfield, London, as well as States where our friends live. Imagine how I felt when this morning all those locations had been replaced by Major Cities that I am not interested in, across Canada. We had to leave.

I had a Follow-Up Appointment with my Surgeon this morning. He was running behind but took the time to answer questions and advised me to not overdo it, on my return to the Gym. One thing I wasn’t happy with, was when he told me to always bring my Cane with me, as it would always be a part of my life. My next appointment will be the One Year Follow-Up.

We headed to Guardian Storage to pick up the Packaged that was delivered yesterday. Though our Canadian Government has legislated the Mail Carriers back to work, there will be no mail until Thursday.

Our breakfast snack was worn off, so we stopped at Popeye’s for an early lunch. We were sitting down enjoying our Chicken Sandwiches, when the place filled with Students on their lunch breaks. As soon as we finished eating, we headed out because all those kids were trying to talk louder than everyone else.

At Zehr’s we didn’t even use our Grocery Shopping List. We simply walked every aisle, continually piling things into our Shopping Cart. With this Tax Freeze that is presently taking place, we saved nearly $50.00 just today.

Our Two-Wheeled Folding Shopping Cart and our Arms were full carrying things up to the Apartment. It didn’t take long to put it all away due to the empty shelves, but I did need my Cane to kneel and stand back up.

Back at the Computer, I tried changing The Weather Network locations back to the way I had them but had no Luck. I did find phone number that I will call to plead my case. I had personalized it for my locations and don’t want them to change it on me.

We enjoyed Bacon/Veggie Wraps for supper, while again watching the 6 o’clock Local News. The world is in a mess, wherever you look.

We watched a couple of short programs tonight.

Bad Habits Causes, Mistakes and MacGyvering.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Click on the pictures to enlarge.

After spending another Three Hours in my Recliner again last night, as a way to ease my Neck Pain and to fall back to sleep in bed, I’m starting to get tired of this Bad Habit. From what I have read, this is not uncommon for a number of reasons and I have most of them. Insomnia, Pain and Weight Gain to name a few.

Even though I was up by 8:00, Kathy didn’t join me for another Hour. She had trouble falling to sleep, than my Tossing and Turning, (I didn’t realize I was doing) was keeping her awake.

Cereal was our breakfast along with our Coffees that we sipped at, while reading on our Computers.

Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with Olives and Pickle Slices for garnishing, made up our late lunch. While eating we discussed our need to do some serious Grocery Shopping, so we went through the Fridge and Freezer, to make a more detailed List. We have not depleted our stocks this low since we were living Fulltime in our RV, but we can still survive another day or two. Once the Dishes were cleaned up, it was only minutes before we headed out.

Like the forecast for our area had mentioned, it was Raining and it was only going to get more intense as the day went on. Kathy insisted she had additional shopping at Walmart, she needed to do alone, so I agreed to leave her by herself while I simply walked. After dropping her at one door so she could stay dry and start looking, I parked at the other before heading in. It was at that moment I noticed my Wallet was not in my pocket.
Back in the
Car I called Kathy to let her know she could privately shop for a Half Hour. The Crazy Traffic definitely slowed me down, but I was back in Twenty-Seven Minutes. Inside I again called Kathy to tell her where the Car was parked so she could put her purchases in the back, while I was inside. I’ve mentioned before how standing seems to bother me more than walking, that ended our outing faster than expected.

Back home, I dropped Kathy at the Front Entrance, so she would stay dry and she could hide her package. To say I wasn’t too dry when I got in, would be an understatement.

I had not checked my E-Mail this morning, so wasn’t surprised to see a Package had been delivered. The problem was it said “Delivered to Owner, at 5:03 am”. I knew that was a lie, so I called Guardian Storage to confirm if it had arrived. It was but at 9:05, minutes after they opened. We’ll pick up our groceries tomorrow.

We had a bottle of Cranberry Juice that the Cap would not unscrew, even while using Pliers. I actually took a Handsaw to thin the plastic off, before taking a Steak Knife to finish opening it. The contents were moved to a reusable container.

Doing more Fridge/Freezer cleaning it took nearly an Hour to get supper ready. The 6 o’clock Local News was just starting when we sat down to enjoy our Spare Ribs, Potato Slices, along with Acorn Squash and Fake Wine as a refreshment. I definitely have to start exercising, to work these meals off.

More Dishes were cleaned up, before we watched another Murder Mystery tonight.

Tomorrow will now be busier than had been Planned.
