Errands, Appointments, Visits and Just Being Helpful.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

With our need to be on time for an 11:00 hair cutting appointment we played it safe and set the alarm last night. Since we are both retired and try not to plan anything too early or too often in the course of one week it is a necessary evil. Also since my family doctor sends me for yearly blood testing and I have another specialist’s appointment coming up soon that also requires a blood test I try to have them done at the same time. Put those two trains of thought together and today seemed the perfect day to have it done.
Inside of the Michigan Diner. It brings back a lot of memories.
We were on our way to Windsor before 9:00 and got caught up in the stop and go traffic associated with School Buses stopping to pick up children on their way to learning to be adults. After driving up Walker Road until we turned westward on the Old Highway 98 we eventually merged north bound on Howard Avenue where minutes later we pulled into the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot.
A 3/4 ton slide in camper with two kayaks on a 1/2 ton truck
parked at the Michigan Diner.
We went inside where Kathy was going to browse around while I walked out the back door over to the 700 Tecumseh Road Medical Building. When I walked in the Medical Lab the place was packed so things didn’t look too good. I’d barely finished filling in the required forms when my number was called ahead of others that were there before me. Their tests were a little more complicated so I got moved ahead.
The front foyer at the Michigan Diner.
Back at Shoppers Drug Mart Kathy was ready to go and our next stop would be for breakfast. When either of us are having blood testing done and we have to fast neither of us eat breakfast until after it’s over.
I'd already started eating when I remembered to take the picture.
Heading back south on Howard we stopped at the Michigan Dinner for breakfast. The Michigan Diner is a local chain that is about to open their fourth location in the area out in the town of Essex. Their menus are simple, the service great, the prices reasonable and the food is fantastic. Even with a light choice we both walked out very satisfied.
It was only 10:30 by the time we arrived at Fantastic Sam’s for our 11:00 appointment. With people that had walked in ahead of our appointed time Jen still managed to take us early. She was nearly in shock when we told her that we’d moved again but when we told her it was into a newer trailer she was happy for us.
After the haircuts we drove over to the Devonshire Mall where we visited the store called Green Earth. Our purchase would be put to good use later in the day.
We drove over to Guardian Storage where we had a bundle of mail waiting for us. We also drove back to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit where we replaced Kathy’s sewing machine and her antique sewing box. Since we only need them once in a while for projects they are better left in our storage unit than taking up space in our Home.

Kathy and I then spent the next couple of hours helping someone clear a problem from their home. When we were finished we both were mentally drained. Needing a rest after 2:00 we went over to Wendy’s where we both enjoyed a Junior Cheeseburger and a small chocolate Frosty for a light lunch. The Humidex reached 109 F (43 C) today and with that high temperature it also brought a downpour that kept us hostages long after we’d finished our light lunch. We then headed back to double check that everything was clean before heading Home.

We actually had a few minutes to check our computers as well as brushing our teeth before going for our yearly dentist appointment. We’d barely walked in when there was a knock on the door. It was our friend and soon to be ex-neighbour from across the street who had sold their trailer. They had a special momento that was screwed to the wall and they didn’t have the right size screwdriver for it. Terry had told Linda that as a tradesman I would have the right tool for the job and he was right. In less than a minute I’d resolved their problem that they had struggled with for nearly an hour.
Not what we wanted to see over the park.
When we started hearing lots of thunder rolling in we thought it would be wise to leave for our appointment early. The clouds were very threatening but we didn’t seem to be traveling through any rain. Arriving at the Dentist’s Office in Amherstburg early we even scheduled our appointment for next year’s visit even before we saw the dentist.

With our teeth freshly cleaned there was only one thing we could. Go to McDonalds to have supper. We have both enjoyed their Sweet Chili Wraps at this location before so that was what we started anticipating. Whoever was making them today didn’t know what they were doing and we ended up eating them out of the package using a fork. Next time they’ll be making new ones for us.

With this being Wednesday evening it was time for our weekly visit at Kevin and Melissa’s home. Even Cameron and Matthew had stories to tell us about their first couple of days at school. The black clouds that had been getting thicker before we arrived finally let loose with such an intensity that it was taking the leaves off the trees. It was such a display of Nature’s Fury that we even forgot to take pictures while it was raining. The rest of the time we had our usual fun visit filled with laughter.

Driving back Home there were still large water puddles along the sides of the road. Tomorrow is supposed to be another scorcher but we still have a lot to get ready before we head south this fall. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. Wow, you did have a busy day. When I think about how my days were filled with a million and one things to do from early morning to late at night when we raising kids, it makes me laugh when I'm put out if I can't get an appointment that suits my time frame. Like between 12 noon and 2 p.m. LOL
