Travelling Work Day

Our Location Today, Middlebury, Indiana, U.S.A.

With Gerry and Sandy scheduled to tour the Keystone Cougar Manufacturing Plant today Kathy and I had made plans to finish off the projects I had started but not completed before the start of our trip. I started by hauling in the compressor so I'd be able to finish nailing the faces of the shelving that was installed at the storage yard. Our inverter was not strong enough to power the compressor so now that we have shore power all systems are good.

At this point I needed something from under the front bathroom sink. Imagine my surprise when I reached on a shelf that was installed on Friday to find water. Somehow the collar of the drain sleeve in the sink had split and was now draining water to the outside of the pipe. A quick trip to the campstore revealed that they didn't carry that type of part but they gave me the name of Bontrager's Surplus Five miles up the road put us back in the state of Michigan and at Bontrager's. They carry all kinds of surplus RV parts from refridgerators, microwaves, furniture, cabinetry, plumbing and electrical. After looking around for about fifteen minutes we found our part for a $1.50 and we were back on our way home. Back home it took all of a minute to re-assemble the bathroom drain.

Before getting back to the woodwork it was noted that I had not yet hooked up our sewer drain. Since the trailer slides were out the job took at least fifteen minutes and then the need to partially re-arrange the basement came up. Yesterday I had quickly emptied the back seat of the truck of tools so there would be room for Sandy and Gerry to sit. Now those things had to be put in their proper storage.

By the time I got back to the wood trim I noticed it wasn't the fit I wanted so now I had to used the wood rasp to handfit the Oak trim. After repeated adjustments to the trim and repeated checking of the fit it finally fit like a glove but now all our neighbors were returning from their day's adventures and with the windows in our trailer open we thought it better to wait until there are less people in the park hearing the nailer going off. It was already supper time so I fired up the barbecue to grill some hotdogs while Kathy fixed a brocoli salad side dish. It was yummy as we were both hungry.

Soon Sandy and Gerry were back from their tour and had spoken to a factory representative about the damage to their trailer. The representative gave them an address of a company in town that does repairs for Keystone all the time. When they spoke with the manager and showed him pictures of their trailer he gave them a quote and a time frame that was better than anyone else. They might be staying in town a few extra days.

To Karen in the woods: Yes we did buy a few things at the flea market like a wooden sign that says "It's about time! and Kathy bought some size appropriate bakeware for use in the oven in the trailer. We arrived at the flea market with a small list of things we wanted to look for to avoid overbuying things we don't need. No room in our tiny base apartment or the trailer to over buy. Lots of nice things there just to look at though and very much worth the walk down all the isles.
What better way to finish off the night then by the campfire with roasted marshmellows. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It's about time.

  2. Glad you caught the leak before it did serious damage. By the way the Bontrager family owns the Jayco company. That's where the surplus parts come from.
