Timing.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

They say that timing is everything and I’m really starting to believe that. With the power outage we had last night by the time it came back on I had such a headache and the apartment had warmed up so much I just couldn’t think clear enough to add pictures in the blog post. Bad Timing!

Considering that I haven’t been sleeping too well the last few nights and with the headache I had I took a Tylenol before going to bed last night. Amazingly I slept like a rock and didn’t wake up until nearly 8:30 this morning. Good Timing!

Shortly after breakfast we received a call from Rick who was interested in purchasing our 5th wheel tripod. I had time to read the morning blogs we follow when again the phone rang and it was Rick saying he had arrived. He liked the condition the tripod was in and the price and bought it in the cooler morning air. Good Timing!

After lunch I checked on a product that I was trying to purchase off the E-Bay Auction but didn’t want to post my final bid to early. To kill time I simply played a game on the computer and finished it with five minutes to spare. By then I could feel the Adrenaline pumping as I found the sight to enter my final bid I felt trembling throughout my body. Instead of waiting for the last thirty seconds to post my bid I hit submit with three minutes to go. Bad Timing! I lost the bid but the winner paid way more than he had planned for it.

Kathy and I spent the rest of the afternoon watching “The First 48 Hours” because we are both into solving crimes in mysteries so this was right up our alley. Good Timing! It was just too hot outside for Kathy to go out in.

Kathy then made a wonderful salad supper that we still managed to feel filled by. It was also special because there were just the two of us enjoying each other’s company and celebrating our 13th Wedding Anniversary. We always appreciate this date because it was a new beginning after a very traumatic time in both of our lives. It is a day that we remind one another just how much we truly love the other. Really Good Timing!

The big thunder-storm that was forecasted to hit our area this afternoon passed us by. Good Timing! Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Busy Indoors Then no Power.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

I’m certain that you get tired of hearing about me not sleeping too well but last night I wasn’t alone. After lying awake then going to read on the computer I was just about to go back to bed when I noticed it was empty. The little bit of pollen we had breathed while out running errands yesterday had taken its toll on Kathy’s breathing to the point that she couldn’t sleep either. After relaxing in the recliners a while longer we finally went back to bed.

Sleeping in until after 8:30 we still felt worn out but managed to have our breakfast before moving to the computers. After catching up on my reading I went back formatting the GPS tutorials. When Kathy was finished reading she went to start making lunch.

The Humidex hit the century mark shortly before lunch today and stayed that way until after supper so needless to say we stayed in the apartment most of the day.

After lunch Kathy worked on making Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup while I made progress on modifying the doors for the CPAP compartments for our trailer.

After supper we sat watching the 6 o’clock News and had barely gotten the weather report when our electricity went out. Looking in the hallway the lights were on and the elevators were working so I checked our breakers to find them intact. I went to the office but the manager wasn’t in. I met a few other residents having the same problem while downstairs. I simply called the service number with my cell phone when I got back to the apartment.

Now it’s past 9:00 we’re playing a waiting game waiting for the power to come back on using flashlights in the apartment in the meantime. The person I spoke to didn’t think this was a big deal until I informed her that both Kathy and I required medical equipment to sleep.

The power just came on minutes ago so now I can use our DSL to post our blog. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

We Did Ask For Warmer Weather.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Once again it was one of those nights where Kathy slept like a log and I spent most of the night awake. I still managed to be up and about before 7:00 with only three hours sleep while Kathy slept past 7:30. We didn’t have anything planned for the day so we simply had breakfast before going to read on the computers.
Sanford enjoying a snack.
Shortly after 9:00 I went outside to put many of the tools away in the tool cabinets in the truck that I used in the trailer. I then brought the rest in so that I could work on the new doors for the CPAP storage compartments for the trailer. I couldn’t have been outside any longer than fifteen minutes but with the high Humidex feeling like it was 95 F (35 C) I was already beginning to wear down. Considering my career evolved around high heat this is a revelation that I’m not capable of doing the things I used to. I spent the rest of the morning copying the Tutorials for our Rand McNally GPS for Kathy from E-mailed instructions.
New drawer not the color it was supposed to be.
Shortly after lunch we went over to our daughter Karen’s for a short visit. She and a friend are taking the kids up to the cottage in the morning and not returning until after we hit the road in a week’s time. We got our puppy fix playing inside the house with Sanford and before we knew it Greg was home from work.
You can see the red tone in the wood.
Our next stop was the Home Depot store to return the extra fittings that I didn’t use while redoing the drainage to the kitchen sink in the trailer. While there we also visited the Paint Department to ask what we could do to make the stain the color we had purchased. Nan Talley gave us good information last night about a possible fix. I had brought the camera and when I showed the pictures to the associate working there she instantly told us the brand and what the color was but not the color we chose. Kathy and I had chosen the color Gunstock which matched the interior wood trim but what came out was Sedona Red. Even though the brand is a good product apparently we are not the only ones that have gotten a different color that we had bought. She gave us the phone number to call the company on Monday to try and rectify the problem.
You can see the red not brown tone better from this angle.

We stopped at the Zehr’s grocery store for a few needed supplies before heading home. Once everything was put away we walked next door to the Chinese Restaurant for supper. We didn’t feel like cooking because of the heat and we were celebrating our Thirteenth Wedding Anniversary a couple of days early. It was a nice casual dinner and of course we brought enough leftovers home for another meal.
Sanford cleaning up all the crumbs.

Tomorrow is supposed to feel much warmer so we’ll see what we get into. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Back Together.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Again last night I had a heck of a time staying asleep which meant that Kathy had a disturbed night because I wasn’t always lying next to her. Of course it was slightly after 8:00 by the time we woke up to have our breakfast. Since we are retired that shouldn’t be much of a problem unless you have an appointment or plans.
What Kathy first saw this morning.
Our plans were to get to the trailer early to avoid the high heat of the day. After making a few phone calls it was nearly 10:00 by the time we arrived at the storage yard. Kathy was shocked more at the sight of her kitchen because it was in a greater state of a mess than the last time she had seen it. She wanted to be able to keep me company and be of help to me if I needed.
Kathy reading but ready to help me if necessary.
After opening the slides and windows I lowered the awning and set a chair for Kathy to do some reading. My task was to create a framing to support the drawer glides for the new drawer. Bit by bit it took shape but the heat started taking its toll on the power inverter long before it did me. Unfortunately that changed my disposition to one of frustration.

Kathy recognized the futility and suggested stopping for lunch since it was already 12:30. Using a coupon we went to the nearby A&W where not only did the food but the cool Air Conditioned building helped to reinvigorate us.
The stain used should have matched the original wood trim.

Back at the trailer I struggled without the use of the drill but had everything assemble and partially cleaned up for us to be heading home by 3:00. Unfortunately the high Humidex made it feel closer to the century mark and had already taken its toll on the both of us. It wasn’t long before we both needed to sit in front of the Air Conditioner to cool down and have a Snap. That Snap turned into an hour of sleep for the both of us.
The new drawer where once was wasted space.
It was after 6:00 before we sat down to a bowl of soup for supper. Having had supper for lunch we now had lunch for supper. Now I only have to finish putting away the rest of the tools and the trailer is once again road worthy.
New storage space.
Kathy and I are not happy with the color of the stain because the paint chip showed it much closer in color to the original wood finish. Not sure what we will do about if anything at this time. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Quick Shopping Trip and More to The Modification.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

I experienced another restless night’s sleep last night so my body made up for it by sleeping until nearly 8:00 this morning. Of course as long as I was lying in bed Kathy continued getting her much needed sleep. At breakfast we discussed what our plans were for the day. Since we had nothing else planned I wanted to continue working on the trailer modification but I first needed some parts. Since I needed to reroute water lines to an outdoor shower I needed to get them closer to the wall so the drawer would fit.

We headed over to Leisure Trailer looking for RV related type water fittings. Would you believe for such a large operation they would have had to order them in and that would take a couple of weeks so they recommended going to the hardware store.

Heading back towards Windsor we stopped at Home Hardware where Sandy didn’t have any plastic fittings but she did have brass fittings that would truly do the job. She confided in us that she had put in her notice that she was retiring due to health reasons and that she and her husband had a small trailer that they wanted to travel in. Both Kathy and I very much encouraged her to do so and to enjoy her travels and life as much as she can because we all know how short it can be.

Our next stop was at Walmart where we found a tower fan to replace our fan at home. The old one just took up too much space and we were constantly getting hung up on it. We made one more stop next door at Home Depot to pick up drainage fittings for the trailer. I made certain to get extra fittings just in case Plan A, B or C didn’t work. Returning hardware to Home Depot is always easy and hassle free and it is better to have the extras with you than having to run back and forth each time the design changes.
Notice drain line above the shower housing.
It was lunch time by the time we got back to the apartment. By the time we had lunch and assembled the new fan it was slightly after 1:00 by the time I got to the trailer. Again Kathy chose to stay behind and get a few things done in the comfort of the Air Conditioning in the apartment.
Water and drainage lines in way of new drawer.
I had managed to redirect the propane line yesterday but I had a lot more to do today. I needed to lower the drainage line from the kitchen sink as well as moving two sets of water lines to make room where the drawer will fit under the oven.
With the drawer just sitting in place there is room between the brass fittings.
Today I again made myself more space by removing the silverware drawers under the cupboard. This allowed me more room to work and redirect the kitchen sink drain line. Once the old line was removed it was time to rebuild the drain one piece at a time until it was completed. Then I had to start gluing it together one joint at a time. There was only one glitch that required me to use an extra fitting that I had planned on returning.
Now there is room for the new drawer to fit.
Notice the drain below the shower housing.
Once all the wires and water lines were moved out of the way it was time to start mounting the drawer. Unfortunately what I had imagined where all the lines would be was not what I had. After more measuring and more changes to the plans I noted it was nearly 5:30 and I was out of drinking water so I closed up for the day and headed home.
The drawer will now pass over the drain on the right side of the opening.
Kathy had supper ready the moment I walked in and since I’ll return to the trailer early in the morning when it is cooler she’ll come with me tomorrow while I finish this latest modification. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Trailer Work, Fire and Lacrosse.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Even though we had a pleasant visit at Matthew’s birthday party we both seemed to have a night of restless sleep. We still managed to be awake early but we felt dragged out.

After the usual breakfast and computer reading Kathy was back to researching places to stay and things to do but for time away in Ontario this summer. With the gloomy looking skies outside and the forecast for morning showers I went back to creating Tutorial files for Kathy. When you copy them you then have to save each picture individually before inserting them into the file. Even then I had to readjust their sizing and where they appeared.

The sky was starting to clear by 11:00 and my eyes were starting to cross so I went for a walk to retrieve the mail. When I returned Kathy had started making lunch. Even though it was early that helped me change my train of thought.
Our new Breadbox.
Shortly after eating I was on my way to the trailer while Kathy chose to stay at the apartment. With less than two weeks before Kathy and I head out on a short trip in Ontario I need to start getting things put together. I needed to open the trailer and windows so that I had room to move and air to breath. The next thing was I had to start tearing things apart and rerouting wires and plumbing. I first installed the breadbox before removing the oven. This opened up the space I had to work which was good for moving the propane line without kinking it. Kathy called to let me know it was time to come home for supper at 3:30 giving me only a half hour to secure things and close up the trailer before heading home. As I was walking in the door Kathy was serving supper. After doing the dishes I badly needed a shower to freshen up.
Kathy didn't like that her oven was missing.

We spent only minutes on the computers before leaving for Forest Glade Arena. Our Grandson Tyler’s Lacrosse team was in the playoffs tonight so we couldn’t miss that for the world. On our way we stopped at the trailer so I could show Kathy what I’d accomplished. Her first reaction was a shriek when she saw her oven missing from its spot in the counter.

We also stopped at McDonalds to pick up soft drinks to bring to the game. As we approached there was black smoke filling the air to the point it was getting hard to see where you were driving.  Suddenly there were fire trucks coming from every direction. Before we could leave traffic was backing up and flames were shooting from the roof of the old bumper factory.

Tyler third from right in back row.
Tyler had been moved from the green team a couple of weeks ago to the red team to be in the playoffs. The game kept you on the edge of your seat. Tyler managed three goals and an assist. The final score was 8-7 with the red team winning the division. First and Second place teams were all given medals according to their standing.

Leaving the arena we could still see smoke from the fire filling the air. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Bye Bye Bike and Birthday Celebration.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Even with the Air Conditioner running all night I still managed to sleep sound enough that I was awake and totally rested by 7:00 this morning. By 7:30 when Kathy got up I had gotten everything set up for breakfast plus I had sorted the laundry that needed to be done today.
Sully wondering why the camera is making noise.
By 8:45 I was downstairs loading up the washers and surprise-surprise nobody else was down there at the time. Between the wash loads and drying time I’d return to the apartment so that I could accomplish other little tasks. By 11:00 I had finished folding the clothes and was back upstairs helping to make lunch.

Before 12:00 noon Kathy and I were on our way to the trailer to drop off the drawer and breadbox plus I needed to get a few more things that I needed to tighten the seat on the racing bike I was selling. I also removed the two original doors where I store our CPAP machines when we travel. They were very plain looking but practical and we wanted to get the same effect on them as I accomplished on the drawer and breadbox. I know that I have not posted any pictures of them yet but I will once they are all installed.
Matthew about to blow out his candles.
On the way home we stopped at the Zehr’s grocery store to gather a few food stocks that will help us make it to the end of the month. We were also surprised as we approached our apartment building that the Tecumseh Road construction has been completed and was once again open to through traffic.
Matthew and his new Soccer Buddy.
I carried the groceries upstairs for Kathy so she could put them away while I fixed the bicycle seat then brought it out to the truck. It fit perfectly in one piece standing in the back seat. Many years ago before I met Kathy I used to cycle over a hundred miles in one day on that bike. Now Kathy and I ride the trails so it was time to say good bye to my past.
Matthew had to work to get into our gift.
Kathy used Duct Tape in place of ribbon.
Kathy and I delivered the bike to a new Canadian from Denmark by the name of Lars who lives in Amherstburg. He was extremely happy with the condition of the bike and the fact that he could now do road trips with it.
Just what a growing boy needs for a snack.
After delivering the bike we went over to Kevin and Melissa’s to help celebrate Matthew’s 12th birthday. He received some cute gifts as well as the more practical things that he really appreciated. Even though it was only snack foods and cake everyone’s diet went back to square one tonight.
More good stuff.
Happy Birthday Matthew.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow so that I can get the trailer projects completed. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Accomplishments and a Visit.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Again we managed to have a restful sleep with the windows open last night but by early this morning the humidity was starting to rise so it was time to turn the Air Conditioner on again. Even though the actual temperature would have been comfortable with the high humidity, high pollen count and an approaching afternoon rainstorm that would make it feel like 97 F (36 C) just weighed in on the decision.

With breakfast out of the way we were both busy on the computers when the phone rang at 9:00 to confirm an afternoon visit. At that point our attention shifted away from the office. Kathy went into high gear straightening up the place while I spent the next hour finishing the drawer and breadbox for the trailer and I even repaired the loose base on a lamp. Everything went together beautifully and Kathy was in awe over the finished products.

I was now able to pack away the tools and supplies back into the truck thus taking away the temporary mess that I had created in the corner of the living room while waiting for the stain to dry. When I returned from the truck I stopped to gather the mail before getting back upstairs. I found Kathy busy vacuuming the apartment in preparation for our visitors.

We finished off the last of the Lasagna that Kathy baked the other day for lunch. After washing up the dishes we finally got back to the computers to finish our morning reading. I even had a chance to take photos of a few more articles we want to sell on Kijiji and send a few E-mails out soon after.

Seconds before 2:00 the phone rang announcing the arrival of my aunt Anna and cousin Jackie. I had spent the entire summer at her home when I was only ten. At that time my mother was in the hospital and not expected to ever come home. What the doctors didn’t count on back then was her will to live. Even though both my parents passed away over twenty years ago I still hold a special place in my heart for my aunt and uncle. We visited for a couple of hours getting caught up on all kinds of things. The rain did fall in the form of a light drizzle while we were visiting but had stopped before they left.

I managed to put a few more things in the truck so that I can bring them to the trailer in the morning. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Research, Woodworking, Soccer.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

You just can’t beat sleeping with the windows open at night unless it is well below freezing or way too hot to sleep comfortably. By 7:00 I was once again well rested and opening curtains and blinds to increase the air flow. Kathy was soon to follow again feeling well rested. Why were we up so early? Who knows! Did we have to go anywhere early today? No! Why do we have this attitude? Because we’re retired.
Matthew defending the net.
After having breakfast and completing our morning reading Kathy returned to researching things we’ll be seeing on our return trip next year. The reason she does that is so we won’t miss things we really want to see because nobody knows for sure if they will get a chance to go back to that particular place to see what you thought you’d like to see next time. Too much happens in everyone’s lives and there is no certainty of what tomorrow brings.
Matthew going for the block.
I went back to work on the breadbox and drawer for the trailer. When you purchase hardware for your projects everything comes with a standard length of screws. This proved to be the first problem because for the same drawer pull I needed longer screws for the drawer and shorter ones for the breadbox door. Searching through my supplies I was able to find the shorter screws but would have to buy the longer ones later. After mounting the magnetic latch and drawer glides I needed to do some unplanned modifying on the breadbox with a wood chisel in order to mount the hinges.
Matthew trying to stop the ball.
We did leave the apartment this afternoon stopping at the Dollar Store, Walmart and finally the Home Depot checking a number of things from our shopping list. Back at the apartment we enjoyed the Lasagna dinner that Kathy bake yesterday with a wonderful salad that she made up today.
Matthew heading for the bench.
This evening we return to the Ford Test Track at 8:00 to watch our Grandson Matthew’s soccer team play against the Windsor Police Department’s Mixed Soccer Team under the stadium lights. Of course as you can imagine there are more restrictions imposed against the senior teams as there playing against the juniors. This allows these kids to play against a much higher skill level of players than they normally do and gives them an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives. The players were even allowed to sit behind the wheel of the squad car after the game was over for pictures.
Matthew really impressed with the squad car.
Once I assemble the trailer projects tomorrow I’ll see what I can do at the trailer. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
