Last Summer Weekend.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

At the beginning of the week I was the one having the most difficulty sleeping but last night it was Kathy who was the restless spirit. We really are looking forward to the start of our next adventure in 4 days because that will mean we will both be sleeping the way we should be.
Since the Weather Channel predicted a day with a high humidex reading above the century mark we decided to take it easy and stay put in our apartment for the day. Even the short trip I made downstairs to collect our mail felt like I had stepped into an oven and I was still inside the building. I never thought I’d say it felt good to be back inside our Air Conditioned apartment.
I worked throughout most of the day on the photo file I’ve been doing and now have it down to the final sorting before uploading the final copy. Kathy continues to do research on many of the upcoming trips that we have planned but by the middle of the afternoon she needed a nap to make up for the sleep she didn’t get last night.
When we read other peoples blogs many of them comment how they don’t like weekends or especially long weekends. The reason is the invasion of the Weekend Warriors. We probably all fit that profile at one time or another during our working careers while raising our families. Now we are watching other young families trying to cram a lot of family time into those few days. With us being past that stage in our lives we are more sensitive to the noises, activities and partying that takes place in that short time. Unfortunately in the last number of years many of those Weekend Warriors show no respect for nature or the peace and quiet other RV’ers attempt to enjoy.
This Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer and the last big hurrah for many of the weekenders. Their children will be heading back to school on Tuesday if they are not back already. That is one of the reasons that Kathy and I are waiting to hit the road on Tuesday. There will be far less traffic on Tuesday than Monday and the ones that will be on the road will be driving more sensibly then the drivers needing to get home so they go back to work and their children return to school. In other words it will be a lot Safer on the roads.
Tonight we continue to catch up on reading blogs we follow and working on the computers and getting excited about leaving on Tuesday. Top that off with the fact that it’s only 116 days left until Christmas Day and life is good. Thanks for following along. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Plan Ahead Day.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Kathy and I thought that we were doomed to not getting a decent night’s sleep until we’d be on the road to our next adventure in 5 days. Fortunately we were both so tired last night that neither of us woke until after 9:00 this morning.
After a leisurely breakfast we headed over to our computers to catch up on E-mails and blogs. I made certain that we had long distance phone service while we would be away next week while Kathy was busy getting her clothes for the trip ready. Once she returned to her computer it was my turn to get my clothes ready so later after lunch we could go to our trailer and pack our clothes away for the trip.
Some of you might be asking yourselves if we are leaving next week why not just wait until that time. The answer is quite simple Isaac. That is right hurricane Isaac. Tomorrow the temperature in our area is predicted to be above the century mark with the humidex. For Sunday through next Tuesday we are supposed to be getting doused with the last of the rain from Isaac. It will be bad enough hauling our medical equipment out that morning and food from the apartment. The clothes would get soaked so it is easier to do it today.
Right after lunch was finished we loaded the truck and headed off to the storage yard so we could get the clothes packed away. With that completed Kathy needed to stop at the Dollar Store for a few travel items. The store we went to is in the Tecumseh Mall so not only did we take care of that errand we casually walked around getting ideas of things to buy as Christmas gifts. In case you forgot it’s only 117 days left until Christmas Day.
By the time we got home it was nearly supper. Kathy thought a nice breakfast for supper would hit the spot and it did. With the dishes washed and put away we watched the 6:00 news. Now we can finish our day working on projects on the computers and keeping up with the blogs we follow. Thanks for following along. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Office Jokes, Quotes, and Anecdotes

Men who didn't confront colleagues or bosses who treated them unfairly doubled their risk of heart attack, according to a study in Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Researchers asked 2,755 men how they typically responded to unfair treatment at work. those who said they would most often "Go away" or "Let things pass without saying anything" had significantly more heart attacks during the following ten years, even after researchers controlled for variables such as education level and job strain.

Appointments and Food.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

With only 6 days before our next adventure I would truly like to wake up refreshed from a good night’s sleep. Kathy on the other hand slept soundly the whole night and still woke after I did this morning. Even as tired as I felt this afternoon I resisted the urge to have a nap but Kathy just couldn’t keep her eyes open.
After breakfast I had another follow up appointment today. Some of the blood tests I had done June 29th were for my specialist and like my family doctor was very impressed with the results. Other than a renewal of my prescriptions I am good to go for another year.
On the way home I stopped at Shoppers Drug Mart to fill those prescriptions and then I headed home for lunch. After we moved last year we had our medical files moved closer to our new home. For some reason our old Shoppers Drug Mart location had refilled one of my scripts and even though I had told them I was moving my store location they went ahead and filled it anyways. That move on their part was causing me a problem at the new location. Once again I had to call the old location and explain that I had cancelled the script back on the 9th and 21st of this month and I was no longer going to travel across town to get my prescriptions that I could walk across the street for. The issue was resolved but lunch was later than I had planned.
Homemade Tomato Soup
This afternoon Kathy continued with her research she had worked on this morning until she could no longer see straight. I started by reading the blogs I had missed this morning before leaving for my appointments.
These are all people who won free Lobster dinners.
By supper time we had to leave because we were going to join our son Kevin and Melissa our daughter-in-law for supper out. Being this was Wednesday we were just changing our weekly visit into a more adult only get-together. The reason we did this is Melissa had entered a contest at a local eatery called Shooters and had won two free Lobster dinners. There were a total of 24 people there that were all being served the same meals that was in part being sponsored by Alexander Keith brewing Company. Kathy and I just ordered off the menu which was more than enough for us but we were able to sit with the kids and enjoy their company and conversation.
Once supper was over we brought the kids home before heading homeward. Before arriving at the apartment we made a quick stop at the grocery store for needed supplies.
Our Fish and Chips.
Today was pleasantly comfortable outside but the predicted temperature for the weekend with the humidex is supposed to feel like 108 F (42 C) and then start a steady cool down into next week. Could those cooler temps have anything to do with the fact that there are now only 117 days left until Christmas Day. Thanks for following along. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Winning Day.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Kathy and I both slept until after 8:00 this morning. That may seem to be a good thing but when you are awake most of the night it is not. It’s now only 7 days before our next adventure and back to sleeping the way we are supposed to all night.
Computer room at the Orthodontist for you to use.
Another thing that happens in 7 days is the beginning of another school year here in Canada. This means all the elementary schools, secondary schools, colleges and university are back to teaching our youth. This also means that the stores will be busy selling all kinds of school supplies causing major voids in many pocketbooks.
Back this spring Kathy and I had brought our grandson Tyler to his Orthodontist’s. For months they were having all the kids with appointments fill in chances to winning a backpack filled with back to school supplies. They had to guess the number of swimming goggles that were in a jar. With a little help from grandpa his guess was the only correct answer. If there had been multiple correct answers the names would have all been put in a hat and the winner drawn from them.
Tyler in video game room.
Karen our daughter was back to work this week when she received a call saying Tyler had won the contest. Since she works in administration at the University of Windsor and students are registering for all their classes this is a week she’d never get off to go with him to claim his prize.
Tyler and Dr. Dionne
So this morning Kathy and I had to pick up Tyler and bring him to his Orthodontist for an appointment to pick up his prize. Every year this Orthodontist does this to help a child be ready for the upcoming school year. This package is not a dollar store bargain package but from a local office supply worth well over a $100.00. They even took a picture to add to their collection of children that have won in the past. A high-school student would have been happy with this package.
This is also the same place I wrote about in a past blog of how they are set up to keep the kids calm and relaxed for their appointments. There is free WiFi if the parent or guardian needs to work while their child is there. There are two computers to use if you didn’t bring your own. There are televisions, play rooms for tykes and a games room for the older children.
Playroom for younger tykes.
While dropping Tyler back home we visited with Kylla for a few minutes and her knee is healing nicely. In total we were gone from home less than an hour but it was worth it to see the smile on the face of a very happy boy.
Swelling gone and she's doing good in Physiotherapy

After lunch it was back to work on the computer where Kathy continued researching and I worked on a photo file. Around 3:30 we each needed to have a nap to try and recover some of the sleep we didn’t get last night. With the supper dishes washed and put away it is now time to wind up our day.

Just so you don’t forget there are now only 118 days left until Christmas Day and Thanks for following along. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Lucky Day.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

There was something very strange this morning. The clock said it was past 8:00 but it was still dark out. First thought was something was wrong with the clock. Then as the sounds of the outdoors seeped through the windows the question was answered. It was raining with the intensity of a storm but without any thunder or lightening. This was making up for all the dry days the area experienced throughout the summer. I’m sure the farmers were grateful even if it was too little too late. By noon the rain had ended but the clouds remained.
This was our day for doing the chores. It doesn’t matter whether on the road or at home we all have those days. Due to the overshadowing of the clouds it seemed to beckon that we do things slowly so we heeded the call and worked at the computers until lunch.
I stripped off the bed linens while Kathy treated the laundry making certain there’d be no stains left behind. Once I loaded the cart and headed to the laundry room there was exactly the number of washers available that I required. Call it fate after loading the washers and getting them started three other people walked in with the same plans in mind.
I collected the mail and headed back to the apartment to remake the bed with fresh linens while the others were being washed. Kathy had been busy doing the dusting and already had the vacuum ready to go.
The timing was perfect once the bed was completely made I headed back downstairs with less than a minute before it was time to start loading the driers. Again while I was there two more people came to check how busy things were.
With an hour on the timer I headed back to work on the computer. Kathy had completed the vacuuming and joined me. One thing I have been doing for years was monitoring our fuel/gasoline usage on our vehicles. I actually created an easy way of doing this by using Windows Excel program. I set it up so it converts metric to standard and standard to metric. It is also set for entries so that if I’m in Canada or the U.S. I can accurately keep track.
Due to this program Kathy and I know that we definitely use the car for doing errands around town which only costs $0.12 a mile to run compared to the truck which can cost us around $0.50 a mile especially when we are towing our trailer through the mountains. Once my entries were complete and I read a few blogs it was time to go back downstairs.
Even though the rain had stopped the humidity was high and the short time it took to fold the warm clothes as it came out of the driers felt like it was taking forever. As I was heading back to the apartment 3 more people were trying to take over the empty washers. I really lucked out today as far as my timing with the laundry.
It’s now only 8 days before we leave for our next adventure on the road. There are still lots of things to complete before then but as long as we keep chipping away at them we should get them all done. Don’t forget there are only 119 days left until Christmas Day and Thanks for following along. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

Art By The River

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Finally we are starting to get the hang of sleeping in the apartment. That is two nights in a row that we slept fairly sound and actually feel rested when we wake up. Too bad that will all change when we leave for our next adventure in 9 days.
Specializing in Doggie Treats
One of the ways we entertain ourselves when we are back home is to find things to do that are not too costly or free. Sounds like we are being cheap but we’re not just frugal. We try to save our money for the important things in our lives and one such thing on our list is travelling to places we have never been and exploring those areas.
Yesterday afternoon we walked around Lacasse Park in the town of Tecumseh enjoying our local celebrations. When we had stopped at our daughter Karen’s not only did we see how the family was doing we also wished Greg our Son-in-Law an early Happy Birthday for today.
Our Son-In-Law Greg
Today we travelled far and wide to the Town of Amherstburg (25 miles) to see what they had to offer as far as inexpensive entertainment. We stopped at our son Kevin’s to wish him a Happy Birthday. That is right both Greg and Kevin have the same birthday and sometimes we even celebrate them together. We talked for a few minutes and then headed off.
Our Son Kevin
Amherstburg was also having a two day fundraising weekend being held at the historic Fort Malden. Art by the River was a collection of local artist selling their wares and services. The arts varied from pottery, pet treats and clothing, photographs, jewelry, soaps, candles, clothing, to metal lawn sculptures. There was far less food vendors then we had seen yesterday but there were dedicated eating areas to keep the food away from the merchandise.
Since our visit to this event was more a way of getting out and as Shoeless Joe would say Enjoying the Good Life than a shopping expedition we were on our way back to the apartment by 3:30 and we had only spent $6.00 for two Ice Cream Cones.
All Doggy Wear at this Booth
Once we were home I grilled a couple of hamburgers on the barbecue while Kathy made the salad and side dishes for supper.
This Young Man's Charcature was as a Body Builder.
After supper we managed to accomplish more work on the computers before calling it a night. Thanks for following along and don’t forget there are only 120 days left until Christmas Day. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Tecumseh Corn Festival

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Having a good night’s sleep and waking at a reasonable time is always nice. With plans made for this afternoon we took our time getting ready as well as doing our normal chores.
Every year the Town of Tecumseh has what is called a Corn Festival which runs for four days through the weekend. This was started many years ago when the biggest seasonal employer in the town was the Green Giant Company. This small community sprang to life when the corn harvest began near the end of summer. Each year the festival not only supports the local economy but helps raise funding for things like the parks, arenas and playground equipment that would otherwise take away from the towns operating budget.
Being that we are into another heat spell in this area and Kathy has enough allergies that the heat seems to amplify we had passed up seeing the parade this morning and  waited until after lunch to head over to Lacasse Park. Since the theme is to raise funding towards children’s activities so the amusement rides were also geared towards children including soap box derby cars. There is also a give back to seniors not having to pay any admission fee to the festival.
The town of Tecumseh sets up a booth to sell (What Else?) corn on the cob which is their way of making money out of this but because of the lack of rain and poorer than normal corn harvest this year prices were high. There were all kinds of vendors selling food, trinkets, blankets and shirts. They had plenty of security provided by the town’s own detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and first aid by the Provincial  E.M.S. and Fire Departments.
The eye candy for the Boomers came in the form of a car show where many of the local car buffs showing their handy work at creating and restoring these beautiful machines. There is also three nights of live entertainment that is always a crowd pleaser.
With the heat index closing in on the Century mark we didn’t stay too late and headed over to our daughter Karen’s home around the block for a quick visit. While there we saw that the swelling in Kylla’s knee following her surgery is practically gone. She has already started Physiotherapy but is still supposed to be walking with the use of crutches. When she goes back to school she cannot participate in any sports until after Valentine’s Day because the A.C.L was completely severed and had to be reconstructed using a grafting procedure.
Back at the apartment the outdoor heat had taken its toll on both Kathy and I again so we needed another afternoon nap second time this week. We again watched the evening news before having our supper and heading back to work on our computers.
We still have lots to do in a short time all before we leave in 10 days for our next adventure. Thanks for following along and don’t forget there are only 121 days left until Christmas Day (Only 4 Months from Today). Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.
