Another Road to Adventure

Our Location Today is Wheatland, Wyoming, U.S.A.

We knew it would happen and yesterday was the day. It was almost a somber occasion. After breakfast was finished and the post published Bill, Vera and I headed off to the Hot Springs Pool for a final swim.
One week ago when we arrived the four of us could barely amble along because of the stiffness in our joints. Some of that had been because of the length of the trip but mostly from the years of wear on our bodies. This last short hour that we were able to sneak in before the next leg of our trip would have to calm the aches of our bodies until such time that just possibly we could return again.
By the time we had the trailer packed and we had a light snack it was closing in on noon. It felt like we were leaving a good friend behind as we drove out of the driveway. Within minutes we cleared the other side of the town of Thermopolis vowing someday to return.
It only took moments to forget our departure as we stared at the beauty of the vistas that rose before us. From one moment to the next the scenery before us changed. It was both the same and yet so different with every twist in the road. It was a magnificent sight.
By the time we had reached the halfway mark of the days travels we arrived in Casper, Wyoming. Here we parked in the lot of a mall so we could stretch our legs before sitting down for a late lunch.
In less than an hour we were back on the road winding our way through the rolling southern hills of Wyoming. Watching the sky for storms is a natural part of RV travel and Kathy noted storm clouds off towards the southern horizon. At first she thought she was seeing the formation of clouds that could have led to the formation of a possible Tornado. The odd thing was it seemed that there was more than one of them almost side by side.
As we continued driving towards these formations we notice heavy rain storms with lightening to our south. This answered the question of the mysterious formations. They were not rain clouds but clouds of smoke. The majority of Wyoming is seriously dry at this time and Lightening strikes had started close to a dozen fires off in the foothills northeast of Fort Laramie.

After passing the affected area it was almost a race against time for us to pull into Mountain View Campground in Wheatland for the night. Before doing the paper work the attendant brought us to our site so we could be set up before the storm began. Within moments we had leveled the trailer and hooked up the utilities.

The evening was spent watching the local weather forecast out of Casper. We also watched the lightening flash in every direction around us while the trailer shook from the violent gusts of wind. That was quite a change from the way we had been ending our days for the last week, but today will be another adventure.
Thanks for following our adventures. Be Safe and Enjoy!
