Rotten in Tecumseh.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Kathy was just too tired to watch the 11 o’clock News last night so she was in bed shortly after 10:00. I had no problem staying awake and was surprised at what I saw. While Kathy and I went away to Huntsville in July the town of Tecumseh had a major fire that destroyed the refrigeration system and cold warehouse of the old Green Giant plant that were destroyed.

Three weeks later not all the spoiled food has been removed and it is creating a stench that is keeping the homeowners of Tecumseh from enjoying their backyards. On the news were two of our daughter Karen’s neighbors telling how they can’t sit outside or have the windows open because the smell is so sickening.

After lunch we thought that we’d stop in and visit Karen for a short while. We had to hold our breaths from the car to the house because the stench of rotting food was in fact that bad. They have to run the Air Conditioning 24/7 and stay inside because of the foul air. They have to load Sanford in the car and drive to a park outside of their neighborhood in order to take him for a walk. From what they have heard the smell might be a few more weeks before it has all been cleaned up. Imagine kids not being able to play outside during their summer vacation.

When we left we stopped at McDonalds for a Fruit Smoothie for a snack before running other errands. While there we ran into Christine one of Karen’s neighbors that was on the news last night. She said the odor was so bad sometimes that the Air Conditioner didn’t stop the smell from coming into her house.

After running the rest of our errands we went back to the apartment to get the truck and we could actually smell the stench in the parking lot outside. We live a half mile or better from where all that rotten food is so we know our daughter and her neighbors are telling the truth. We chose to go out for supper so we could regain our appetites.

Since this was Wednesday evening we headed out to visit with our son Kevin and daughter-in-law Melissa out in Amherstburg. We had time to talk about our weekend, what they did and what they are doing getting things ready for when the boys go back to school in another month. As always we had another fun filled visit that had everyone laughing throughout the evening and Melissa gave us another Zucchini so I know what I’ll have on the grill tomorrow.

Tomorrow we have a few things scheduled but everything can change in a flash. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. Hard to believe they are taking so long to clean up the mess. I feel sorry for all those involved.
