Making Arrangements and Making Progress.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Not long after I had opened the blinds this morning and started to get things ready for breakfast Kathy came down the stairs saying it was too cold inside the trailer. The last five days we’ve been able to sleep with the windows open at night due to warmer temperatures but not now. With a little patience and a sweater to cover her shoulders she soon started feeling much more comfortable.

Once breakfast was over I turned things around by doing my inside chores first then doing my morning reading. With less people commenting and writing their own blogs it didn’t take me that long to do all my reading.

I then had a few phone calls that needed to be done. The first was to make certain the pharmacy would have our six-month supply of medications ready this week. Their response was they had just finished the last prescription this morning and we could pick them up any time. The next call was to VitalAire so they could order our CPAP supplies we’ll be needing for the next six months.

The next call was another attempt to reach a wood craftsman that our friends Tom and Marcie from Roaming Free 2010 had recommended after having had work done on their Toyhauler years ago. In the last week I had left a message every day and never received a call back from the person so when I heard the same message when I called today I just hung up.

Kathy found me the phone number for Jayco in Middlebury, Indiana. When I explained to the receptionist what I wanted she put me through to their Service Department. What I got was to leave another lengthy voice mail.

Needing to go cut pieces of metal I’d forgot to cut the last time I was at Kevin’s I had to go back to finish what I started today. The trip to Amherstburg was short and when I arrived at Kevin’s home I was surprised that he wasn’t there. Having the code to the garage I set about getting the Cut-off Saw out to start cutting the metal. I’d barely started cutting the first piece when the saw quit. Checking all the breakers they all seemed fine so I used the current meter to find that the plug was live and the problem was with the saw. Luckily I was able to finish cutting the half dozen pieces using cutting wheels on a hand grinder. I’ll resolve the problem with the Cut-off Saw when we get back in the spring.

On the way Home I stopped in at Sun Parlour Trailer to pick up Cargo Door Locks for our forward hatch. Because the trailer is set up for a generator it presently has no locks according to the law. Since we won’t be installing a generator in that compartment we plan on locking it.

Before leaving Kevin’s I’d called to tell Kathy I was on my way Home so when I arrived at 12:30 she had just finished making lunch. We talked about what had happen with the saw and that no one had returned our calls. When lunch was over I again called and left another more explanatory message with the Jayco Service Department.

Outside the first thing I did was to attempt to install the Cargo Door Locks on our forward hatch. The way the threading was set up on these new latches the mounting nut would not hold them in place. A call to Sun Parlour Trailer confirmed that they had deeper latches. I wanted to get as much accomplished as possible so I didn’t want to drive back right away. Rob suggested a spot he would hide the proper locks so I could pick up after hours and just leave the shorter ones behind. Not many businesses will do that for customers.

This spring we were victims of having a bird’s nest in our Pinbox of our Avalanche fifth wheel. It was very noisy as the chicks were being fed and messy as the birds defecated on our vehicles. Once the brood flew the nest I created a sheet metal cover thus stopping any further nests from occurring. When we traded in the Avalanche the Pinbox cover went with the trailer.

While I was marking the sheet metal panel the phone rang and it was Dave from Jayco. He explained that they don’t do modifications to RVs at the factory. When I asked if he knew of anyone that Jayco would recommend he gave me the name of Wayne a local cabinet maker. I then called Wayne and have a tentative appointment for November fourth to fix our problem with the cabinet.
Pinbox Cover in place will prevent any future bird's nest.
As I continued to cut the miters in the sheet metal panel the phone rang again. Kathy came to the door to inform me that our supplies were ready for pick up at VitalAire.
Pinbox Cover from a different angle.
Once I’d shaped the panel the way we needed I had to move some wires located inside the Pinbox before mounting the Pinbox Cover. Now it’s neat and no place for birds to make a nest.
Homemade Stew. Delicious!
Kathy had made a delicious Beef Stew that we enjoyed for supper. Once we finished washing the dishes we headed for Amherstburg. Our first stop was Sun Parlour Trailer where I found the deeper Cargo Door Locks right where Rob said they would be.

Our next stop was Pharma Care to pick up our six-month supply of medications we’ll be bringing with us. This is a serious deal here in Ontario where you even have to fill in forms declaring how long you will be out of the country.

Since this was Wednesday evening we headed to Kevin and Melissa’s for our weekly visit. We had lots to talk and laugh about to the point where I almost forgot to get the extra spools of automotive wiring I had stored in the garage.

That wasn’t as much as we’d have liked to do today but everything we do accomplish gets us one step closer to our departure in less than two weeks. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. One by one things get crossed of that list! We have to pinch ourselves every once in a while during these last Ontario days, that our dream is really real! We don't expect totally smooth sailing but figure if we don't have too many expectations, it will help with any bumps. :)

  4. The Pinbox Cover is a great idea for anyone sitting for any length of time in the same place. Good job.
The days are getting closer for your departure.
