Windy Walk and More Suggestions.

After a rough day like yesterday, I did not know how my night would be. Surprisingly, once we got home, it was as if nothing had gone on. Up close and personal is one thing, but my Mental Well-Being had taken a hike.

Kathy was in Bed by 10:30, while I finished up the Blog. Once it was published it was my time to relax but the stress had taken its toll. It took longer than normal for my body to accept my eyes were closed. It turned into a back-and-forth night, but at least the time I spent in Bed helped Kathy wake refreshed and rested.

After our breakfast snack we tuned into our Computers just long enough to check The Weather Network and drink our Coffees. Our daughter Karen had warned us yesterday, that her Insurance Agent would probably be calling Kathy about last week’s accident. Sure enough, as soon as we started drinking our Coffees, he called.

It was a blistering 43 F (6 C) this morning, a big difference to earlier in the week and we would eventually climb to 64 F (18 C), but not before we got home.

Kathy said that she wanted to go walking, which sounded good to me but as we were about to go out the door, she said “Someplace different”. Being a typical guy, I had not thought of that but then I remembered the perfect place to go.

With the Winds blowing from the Northeast, we headed out the front entrance to avoid the Wind Vortex that we constantly experience on the East side of the building. As soon as we stepped out the door. It felt like the Wind had changed direction just to make us suffer.

Our walking destination was where I had taken Kathy yesterday, before suffering the anguish of defeat. Reaume Park/Coventry Gardens is located just up Riverside Drive from out home. Luckily for us, we had worn our Denim Jackets. Unfortunately, with the Northeasterly Wind, we should have worn our Winter Coats. The open waters of the Detroit River only amplified the harshness. We moved inland from the shoreline, following the tree lined paths. There was no walking with a purpose otherwise we would have been knocking others over in the attempt. We lasted nearly an Hour, before we enjoyed the warmth of the Car blocking the 30 Mph (50 KLM) Wind Gusts.

With a few errands still to run, the next place we went to was the Credit Union. Recently there has been an increase in Counterfeiting and we had some Cash that fell in that category. Lots of businesses are not accepting those denominations. Not being able to tell the difference, the Teller verified they were legit, then had me watch as they went through the Magic Machine and received a Green Light. I simply deposited them in both our accounts.

It was 1:30 by that time so we went to Arby’s for lunch. We both felt good after our walk and talked while we ate. I mentioned needing to stop at the grocery store before going home. Kathy mentioned wanting to go see her brother Danny, who she has not seen in a long time. (Yesterday!)

After picking up Potatoes and a few other things at Zehr’s grocery store, the cashier informed me that I could not redeem a Ten Dollar Coupon from Shoppers Drug Mart, even though they are owned by the same Corporation. There was only one thing to do and that was to go redeem the Ten Dollar Coupon at Shoppers Drug Mart.

With it feeling so Cold outside and the Apartment so Hot inside, we had both the Balcony Door and Bedroom Window open in a matter of seconds. Minutes later our daughter Karen called to see if Kathy would be interested on another Girls Day Outing. With the answer being “Yes”, it completely changed what we would be having for supper and when. After hearing that we had been out walking, Karen also suggested a few different Walking Trails that are further away from the open waters, for future use.

We waited until the “6 o’clock Local News” was over before sharing a Store-Bought Thin-Crust Medium Pizza with extra Mozzarella Cheese for supper.

We only watched a single episode of “Law and Order, Special Victims” this evening. Kathy has gone to Bed and the Alarm is set. As soon as this Blog is published, I’ll be joining her.

I Cried.

After barely an Hour in my Recliner I would finish the remainder of the night in Bed. I always wake up feeling refreshed when that happens and so does Kathy. We talked about that while having breakfast.

With the recent Hot Days temporarily giving us a break, it was no surprise to see temperatures in the cool comfortable range, brought on by the shift from Southerly Winds to Northerly.

When I first asked Kathy if she felt like walking this morning, she said “No” even though her legs were feeling better. Remembering that she used to turn on the Television for background noise, I turned it on low volume. She became agitated so I mentioned running errands. She was happy to hear that.

We were just about ready to head out when our daughter Karen called. She let us know that her Insurance Company might be calling to see how Kathy was doing. This is Stupid! If you are involved in an accident, any settlement made is through your own Insurance Company, who the settles with the Opposing Company. She was happy to hear we were getting out.

The temperature was perfect and the breeze was not overpowering like the last couple of days. We were comfortable not using the AC and driving with my window slightly ajar.

Our first stop was Health First Pharmacy to pick up my Medications. Two of the Three had been filled but it was too early for the one that helps my Bones absorb Calcium. Though only one Tablet is taken per Week, I fill Six Weeks' Worth of Doucettes and they only dispense Four Tablets at a time. I might have to think twice about their continued use.

With a couple more errands to run, we stopped at Popeye’s for a different taste and to use their $4.00 Menu. Those Chicken Sandwiches are half the regular size and served on a Biscuit rather than a Bun. It was more than enough for our needs.

We headed to Guardian Storage to collect our Mail and were happy with the effort. Every Year, we submit our Income Tax Returns together. Every Year, since our Monthly Government Cheques are automatically deposited into our Bank Accounts, we both opt for the same method of payment. Every Year, Kathy’s return is automatically deposited, while my Cheque is sent in the Mail. ???? It arrived today.

Before going too far, we stopped at the Pioneer gas station to top off the Car. With the new Pre-Pay Inside Policy and the rising cost of fuel, $50.00 does not get what it used to.

A quick stop at the Credit Union took care of that Cheque as well another payment on our Credit Card.

Kathy then mentioned that she wanted to go walk at the Park by the River with the Beach that we went to with her brother Danny. When I tried explaining that WE had not gone to the Beach with her brother, she started screaming that I did not want to walk and only wanted to watch TV. I again tried telling her that I wanted to walk and only watched the TV with her.

Instead of going home, when we reached Riverside Drive, I turned in the opposite direction of home. When we arrived at the Park by the foot of Pillette Avenue, she again screamed that wasn’t the place, When I said “I don’t know where you mean”, she said I was trying to make people think she was Crazy, but it was actually me that was losing it.

Heading back towards home, her tirade continued until I lost it and hollered back. (I felt Two Inches Tall) but that just fueled her. After parking in our lot, she was not coming in and was going to find the Beach by herself. With no other choice I simply got back in the Car and started driving towards LaSalle where Kathy’s brother Danny lives.

I lost both Parents and my Late Wife within a Five Year Period. It was not until after her funeral that I cried. Heading towards LaSalle today, I cried again but kept my face hidden. It seems, no matter what you do to protect The One You Love, they believe you are against them. I know, that I am not alone dealing with Loved Ones under similar circumstances.

It has been less than Two Weeks since we traveled this same route, but every corner we passed, it was like she was seeing it for the first time.

I almost drove by Danny’s house and had to turn back. He was happy to see us, but could immediately tell that Kathy was agitated. The first thing she said was his Hair used to be Red. He jokingly said not for a long time. That gave me the chance to ask about the Beach by the River. (His answer made me realize why I could not find it.) As children, their parents used to take them swimming at Brighton Beach, nearly Seventy Years ago. Today, that Beach is now under the East End of the soon to be open Gordie Howe International Bridge. We visited for a few more minutes before we headed back towards Windsor.

The entire drive Kathy was calm and held my hand, but still would not believe that was her brother. It seems that she is fixated on the Red Hair of his youth, and the past.

We went a bit further and stopped in Tecumseh to visit our daughter Karen and to drop off a Hanging Flower Basket. We also visited with Greg and Tyler for the short time we were there. We politely turned down offers of feeding us supper. We don’t go there just to be fed.

Back on the road, Kathy then suggested that we eat out. We stopped at the Chinese Restaurant that we used to live next to, only to find they were closed on Wednesdays. Down the road we stopped at Smoke and Spice where we enjoyed hot out of the Smoker Ribs. It was worth the stop.

We now have Two Hanging Planters inside our Apartment. When I did not turn on the Television this evening, Kathy wondered why. I simply asked if she wanted it on to which she said “No”.

I will try to keep our mornings busier to see if that makes a difference.

Doctors, Tests and Thunderstorms.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Having a good night’s sleep has always been what I have hoped for, whether it be in my Recliner, in Bed or a combination of both. Everything was working directly for that last night, until I rolled over facing the Clock. No, I had not set the Alarm to wake me early, but I knew that I had some cleaning up to do before we started our day.

I was already gotten partially dressed, when the Kathy knocked on the door. It worked to both our advantages, because of the Humidity from my shower that would not allow me pull my shirt down my back. I would later do the same for Kathy.

It was another Blueberry Muffin and Yogurt Cup type of breakfast along with our Breakfast Juice to wash down all our Medications and Vitamins. My Computer continues to get slower every time I use it. I turned it on before we had our snack, and Kathy was already dressed by the time I could check The Weather Network. The forecast showed Rain and possible Thunderstorms, but we already knew that by just looking how wet everything was outside.

Unfortunately, we could not find our Umbrellas, so we needed to wear Jackets to keep us somewhat dry, until we got to the Car. By the time we walked out the rear entrance, it had stopped Raining and the Jackets were too Hot. We had to run the Air Conditioner in the Car before 10:00 this morning.

We were early as usual and there was only one other patient in the Waiting Room at our Family Doctor’s Office. We didn’t have time to get comfortable, when Lisa called us all into Examination Rooms. Two Minutes later George came in asking how we were doing. When he heard of Kathy’s involvement in the Car Accident, he was asking questions that Police Officer would normally ask. Then he reviewed the results of her X-Rays. When he got to the results of my Cat Scan, he could only say, it had not gotten worse since the last time. All my damage was due to the number of years that I welded for.

Leaving his Office on the West End of Windsor, we used the Expressway to travel to Dyna-Care in Tecumseh. With the work order on file from Kathy’s Rheumatologist, it makes it the practical place to go. Unfortunately, they no longer except appointments for Blood Tests, which is what attracted us to this location. It was nearly Forty-Five Minutes before we left, but that was still better than the Three-Hour Waits, we used to have at their other location.

It was past 1:30 when we arrived at our favourite Wendy’s location for our late lunch. Paula was busy training new Student Employees but we did not mind. As we ate lunch and talked, we could see the Black Clouds rolling in our direction. The decision was made to head for home.

We had barely gotten comfortable in the Apartment when we started hearing loud bouts of Thunder that lasted up to a Half Minute, before the next round started. Fifteen Minutes later the Rain finally stopped.

Instead of going to the Pharmacy that we deal with, because of the weather, I called them from home. I mentioned the other day, that I made certain that all of Kathy’s Medication were available when I did the Doucettes. It has only been the last few Months, that I started taking Prescribed Medications on a near normal basis. The funniest part was, there were Three Prescriptions, by Three Different Doctors, all specialists in their own fields.

On the “6 o’clock Local News”, the Weather Guesser, confirmed we had reached 82 F (28 C) feeling like 100 F (38 C) while we had been out. She also said there had been Wind Damage cause by the Strong Southwesterly Winds. The best part of the forecast is the cooler temperatures we’ll get for the next Five Days.

We later found a Murder Mystery to watch.

Tomorrow will be a busy day away from home.

Good Sleep, Store Walking and New Hat.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Click on the pictures to enlarge.

It was another wonderful night, with spending only Two Plus Hours sleeping in my Recliner, with an additional Six Plus Hours in Bed. I did not even make it to the Kitchen when Kathy came out to join me.

After having only Blueberry Muffins for breakfast, then taking our Coffees to the Computers, I was surprised when Kathy suggested going for a walk. Since the Balcony Door was already ajar I started checking what the actual temperature was. By 10:00 this morning the Humidex was already at 90 F (32 C) and climbing. Since she is not fond of Hot Sticky Temperatures, I suggested we wait until after lunch to go store walking.

For lunch I tried something different and though I have a lot of learning to do, it still came out satisfying to me. I created Tomato/Bacon on Cheddar Cheese Grilled Sandwiches. Though I was happy, Kathy said the Bacon should have been Crunchier, where I made it well done but not Crunchy.

Just before stepping out the door at 1:00, I rechecked the temperature, to find our Humidex had increased to 97 F (36 C), with Southerly Wind Gusts reaching 27 MPH (43 KLH). Since Kathy had just closed the Balcony Door, she did not think it was that Hot. When we walked out the rear entrance to the building, she changed her mind. I have mentioned before, the way our building and the one to our east create a Vortex for the Wind. It nearly blew Kathy off her feet and reminded me of the Heat I experienced from the Huge Metal Melting Furnaces that I worked around on daily basis for Thirty-Six Years. In the Car, we had to turn on the Air Conditioning.

We headed to Walmart, where we had the chance to walk around in the Air Conditioned store. Even though I will be returning to exercising at the Gym, I am presently stuck wearing clothes that are on the tight side. I had to invest in pants before Christmas for the same reason, but even those were tight when I bought them. With larger sizes to look through this early in the season, I can now walk around comfortably.

Kathy also chose to buy herself a Hat, even though she does not recall all the other Hats she has at the Apartment. She also wanted a Lite-Weight Water Bottle that she can carry when we go for our walks. We walked from one end of Walmart to the other, with no luck. We then went to Canadian Tire, that has all kinds of Sporting Goods, but no luck. We headed to the Dollarama nearest our home. Though it was not what I had hoped to find, Kathy was very happy with her new walking mug.

Since it was nearly 4:00 so we drove to the other end of the parking lot to Mary Brown’s chicken for supper. There was only one customer leaving with her order when we arrived, but by the time we sat down to eat, there was a steady stream of customers taking advantage of their Mary Brown’s Monday Special.

Knowing the forecast had called for afternoon Thunderstorms, it was no surprised when I looked out towards the West at the Dark Clouds filling the sky. Another customer walking in said, that he hoped we brought our Umbrellas. As soon as we finished eating we were out the door.

I dropped Kathy at the front entrance to our building before parking the Car. I just finished tying the Shopping Bag Handles together, when an Extra Hard Wind Gust hit so hard, I nearly fell over and the Sales Receipt blew out of the bag, flying twenty times faster than I could move. The Vortex between the buildings had blown it in the Detroit River before I got to the rear entrance.

We were able to cool down by opening the Balcony Door, but due to the threat of a Thunderstorm, we left the Bedroom Window closed. Just as we cooled down a bit, the Rain started coming down in waves so hard that it blew over the one Plant we had out on the Balcony. We had no choice but to shut the Door for a while.

While Kathy and I were talking this evening, I mentioned the Hat she purchased. According to her recollection, she didn’t buy a Hat. Without the Receipt, I was just lucky enough to find it on my side of the Closet. Then she remembered.

Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for more Rain. What else should we expect for a day of appointments.
