Gasping For Air and A Legal Scam.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Do you remember one of the last things that I wrote in yesterday’s Blog was, we could only hope to get a better night’s sleep than on Wednesday. It must have been an Omen, in defiance of what we could only hope for. After just over an Hour, I was able to join Kathy in Bed. Like the night before, the Lightning did a great job of illuminating the Apartment, but that was not the problem.

Around 1:15 we lost all Electrical Power to our Apartment, and since we depend on that to run our CPAP Machines, to help us breathe, we were both left Gasping for Air. Surprisingly, the Security Lighting along the Ganatchio Trail and the distant Traffic Lights were functioning, but all the neighbouring Buildings and Houses were in darkness. It took sitting in our Recliners before remembering, they also needed Power to work. Kathy kept thinking we needed to do something, so I lead her in the dark to our Bed and said, “Try sleeping without your Machine”.

It was nearly Two Hours later before the sound of our CPAPs blowing air at our pillows woke us up. Even though the next Four Hours went by uninterrupted, we still seemed to drag the rest of the day. We had actually slept though the Rainstorm last night.

A short while back Kathy gave up keeping track of our Finances and told me to do it. I found it strange that she has been paying more for her Life Insurance, than what we pay for the Apartment, Truck, Trailer, Car, Storage and Liabilities Insurances combined.

After having Toasted Tomato and Cheese Sandwiches for lunch, we headed out with a couple of errands in mind. The first was to the Insurance Company that Kathy was affiliated with. Brian listen closely to both our Concerns. Kathy’s being, that there would be a decent payout upon her demise, while my concern was the high monthly Premium, that has left her account in Near Overdraft position, many times. I have Four Life Insurance Policies that are worth far more and cost less than a quarter of the price. Kathy insisted on leaving it the way it is, but I’ll be looking for something better.

Years ago, when Apartment Buildings were being erected in our area, they installed the Air Conditioner Sleeve, where they thought the most practical place was the Livingrooms. Unfortunately, in order to cool the rest of the unit, Fans are needed to circulate the air. With limited space, the best units to do the job are what is called a Tower Fan but they are like people, with a Limited Life Span. The days of the round oscillating Fans, blowing all your paperwork from one end of the house to your neighbour’s yard are not needed. This week Canadian Tire had all kinds of Fans “On Sale”. Most of the ones advertised were the Fancy Designer Names that we had never heard of. Around the corner on a shelf holding name brands that we were familiar with, and no sign saying, “On Sale”. The best part was we could have bought Two for the price of the Designer Fans. It pays to look round corners.

Kathy was starting to get hungry at 3:15. I asked what she would like before going to McDonald’s, where once inside at the counter, she changed her mind of what she wanted. While she found a table I waited for my number to be called. The employee came out with a tray loaded with Ice Cream Treats and after Three Call-Outs, left it on the counter. Four of us started asking others we saw waiting, what their number was. Finally, we see a guy that had been walking all around the dining area, what his number was. He ignored us, until we asked, “Did you order Ice Cream”? Suddenly he goes running up to find things starting to melt all over the counter. He had the nerve to start complaining but was shut down by those of us that saw it delivered nearly Ten Minutes before.

Lucky for us, the Fans that we had left running, had kept the Apartment at the perfect temperature for our return. We even had time to get caught up on our Computer reading, before the “6 o’clock Local News” started. With clear weather in the forecast for tomorrow, we should be getting plenty of Walking Exercise in.

We later watched a few episodes of “Law and Order, Special Victims Unit”.

Hopefully, we will have a better night tonight, than we had last night.

  1. You are wise to seek alternative plans for the life insurance, especially when not everyone is thinking in a like manner. Take care.
