Moving Day, Setting Things Up, Getting Supplies and Giving Hope.

Our Location today is at McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Knowing that we didn’t have to rush this morning we had planned on sleeping more to our normal time. Instead Kathy managed to be downstairs by 8:00 and I was working on the Computer before 7:00. We had offered to help Mike to move his Mobile Suite Fifth Wheel from Third Street over to its new location behind us on Fourth Street so our bodies seemed to be reacting like it was a Travel Day

A few years ago Mike and Pat had heard that people were actually living in their RVs with no Sticks and Bricks holding them down. Their kids were grown and moved out west plus they had always dreamed of traveling. Then they found some RV Blogs On-line to read about people doing exactly what they had heard. After lots of planning, lots of downsizing and finally selling their house they had another challenge, they needed to find an RV.

Even though this would be there first RV they decided on a Fifth Wheel. Looking On-line the found a fairly new Mobile Suite at an unbelievably low price. The couple had purchased it but before they could hit the road the Wife had passed away. Upset the Husband just wanted to get rid of the Trailer so just wanted what was still owing on it. A friend would pick it up and deliver it to the Park for them.

They had ordered a Brand New Dually only to have it delivered Damaged. Even after it was repaired it was still noticeable so they wanted a New Truck. It took Eight Months for it to show up and it still needed the Hitch installed.

Since they are not going away this winter and are returning to the Park next season they can store it on their lot at no charge. When they applied to move to this new site I was one of the people that advised them to do it now not when the ground is soft in the spring. But without a Hitch how could that happen.
We finished breakfast and sat back at the Computers to finish our Coffee/Tea. We got the important things done first like checking the Weather Forecasts. (Can’t tell we’re Canadians can you?) It was already at 39 F (4 C) and was supposed to reach 50 F (10 C) by suppertime. We could hear noises coming from outside so a quick peak showed Mike was already busy closing things up on his Trailer.

Kathy and I work as a team which has saved us hardships. When others had said they would help while we maneuvered our Trailer it always cost us in Repairs. So even though I would be driving Kathy would be my Guide.

While I dealt with a Toilet that was stuck running Kathy went to talk to Mike. He was getting the Outside ready for the move by crawling under the slides but still had all kinds of things sitting on counters and the table Inside. (Like I said these guys had never traveled in an RV before.) Pat unfortunately was not here so Kathy will have to teach her in the spring what it takes to travel with an RV. By the time I had set our Truck up for towing Mike under Kathy’s guidance had already secured the inside for travel.
Once the Trailer was Safely and Securely attached to our Truck and Kathy verified the Lights were properly working I invited Mike to come for the ride so I could give him some Pointers. A few times he thought that I was passing the Street but I showed him that the Street Sign would have ripped the side out of the Trailer if I had turned shorter.

Back at their new Site Mike was surprised to see how much the Trailer was sinking in the freshly laid gravel. He complimented the both of us on how easily we got it in such a tight turn. We told him with some practice he’ll be able to do the same thing. At this point Mike has only ever towed a little Utility Trailer.

It was nearly lunch when we headed Home where we started making Sandwiches. That’s when the phone rang. Vera needed some information from Kathy.
Still some Golfers out.
Remember we had problems the other day with the new On-line Service for our Credit Card, it happened again today but that’s a good thing. Because Kathy does our On-line Banking when we go south we also had to set up one of our TracFones as a Security Number. It only took 70 and a Half Minutes to get it fixed.
There was some Plywood here that we needed to bring to our son Kevin’s so we headed off to Amherstburg with the Truck. It was after 3:00 when we arrived and found Melissa had book a day off and was helping to clean up the Garage from Saturday’s Party. Kevin has to get his Street Rod back inside before the bad weather strikes.
These are not the Pharmacists.
We continued over to Pharma Choice to see if our Prescription Medications were ready. They were working on them so Thirty Minutes later they had our Supplies ready to go.
A quick stop at the Canadian Tire Gas Bar we put just enough Fuel in the Truck to hopefully make it to the US and Cheaper Prices.
Always someone looking for a free ride.
It was past 4:30 and we needed to eat so we stopped at McDonalds. Wanting to try something different we chose Grilled Chicken Sandwiches that would have been easier to eat with a Fork and Knife. We went through a lot of Napkins.
It was past 5:00 by the time we got Home. We needed to take our evening Meds and we needed the Car.
We arrived at our daughter-in-law Jen’s house just before 6:00. We brought Jen one of those Documents that we had trouble printing last week. This will also help her through some trying times. While enjoying a hot cup of Tea we had a chance to catch up on more things happening in their lives. After lots of hugs to Jen, Connor and Haigan we headed for Home.

If you think we were busy today, wait until you see what we do tomorrow. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  2. That was nice of you to help them get moved and at a good time. I'm sure they'll enjoy the M.S. whether they pull it or not.
    Cute Hallowe'en decorations.
Pat had a rib sandwich at Mcd's and it was really messy too.

  3. You guys must be really excited now to get going. The nice thing about full-timing is that you don't have to think about what to bring because its already there in the rig. I bet Mike will be a little bit envious that you are heading south and he's not yet ready.

  5. It's so nice you helped them with the trailer. There's an awful lot to learn. I think the best advice is taking it around the block or just to the next town several times before actually hitting the road. Good luck to them!!

  7. A tip for dealing with Tracfone. I have learned to use the online chat for any issues. It is so much quicker and more understandable plus you can have a transcript of the conversation emailed to you.
